For reaction now from Democrats.

On the -- Ryan ticket we -- joined by congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz who is the chair of the Democratic National Committee welcome.

Thank you came down from New Hampshire -- so we appreciate the aquatic.

You were working yesterday as well in response to all of this you can that was strong criticism of of -- congressman Ryan saying.

He has been called a serious person but he like Mitt Romney his seriously flawed ideas for our economy that have only failed us in the past what -- talking.

Well as a member of the Budget Committee myself I've really had a front row seats to -- witness.

The architect of the Romney Ryan budget Paul Ryan -- -- extremism.

Suggests that we should end Medicare as we know it shred a safety net for seniors and health care that we've had in place for more than fifty years.

Turn Medicaid into a block grants and send -- to the states which would really jeopardize seniors in nursing homes.

Potentially and -- take ten million.

Students you know -- -- pell grants cut health care cut education.

Paul Ryan has embraced and extremists proposal.

And it goes not only too far but really according to every independent economists asked cuts -- lots that it would risk.

Stalling or is slowing or even stalling our recovery which we know is already -- fragile.

Well let's focus in on on Medicare for a second because you said end Medicare.

As we know we do know that if Medicare goes along the path that it's on out it's going to end itself.

So and and you heard John McCain say the -- report says they'll be in twelve years that there were earlier reports of nine years that's been extended up to twelve but they're need to be some changes made.

And the changes that senator that this -- the congressman Ryan he -- conjunction with.

Paul all of -- have been Ron -- -- have been have been making.

Mirror very much the provisions in the Affordable Care Act for lower income people so how can you embrace one thing for lower income people say.

We can't do the same thing -- -- Well let let's let's thanks for everyone knows that Ron Wyden senator Wyden voted against the Ryan budget when it came up for a vote in the senate.

So even Ron Wyden agrees that Paul Ryan's approach is too extreme.

That turning Medicare into about the program would not be the right way to go if portable care act -- of the reason that we have twelve years now rather than nine.

Is because the Affordable Care Act and an eight years of solvency seeing the Medicare program.

And we know that we need to make sure that we can continue to shore up Medicare so that my generation Paul Ryan's generation actually have an opportunity to.

Have that safety net in place.

Well we don't need to do and that Mitt Romney has fully embraced by choosing Paul Ryan as his running mate.

Is to shred that safety net.

Tell seniors that when you're no longer have a guarantee for health care we're gonna give you -- -- And then we're gonna make you pay about 6300 dollars more in premiums in order to be able to pay for that health care and essentially -- Leave you with a gap between what the -- provides and what the insurance company that you ultimately get coverage from charges the couple that were the wrong way to -- -- Of important points on on what you just said it was a voucher program in its first incarnation in 2011 but.

The new incarnation of the Ryan budget plan would allow senior citizens to stay and the traditional Medicare system.

And it's true that the Congressional Budget Office scored his 2011 budget is potentially costing senior citizens 6300 dollars.

But there's been no such scoring of the new budget so you're you're actually giving some old figure here.

Now that that's that's still a proposal that -- Paul Ryan put on the table that we actually that that we actually voted on.

That he has championed and Mitt Romney has now chosen Paul Ryan who is the architect about plan.

As his running someone who.

-- Mitt Romney already embraced the Ryan budget which we know with extreme.

And it and -- give -- someone who represents thousands of seniors in South Florida.

I can tell you.

That's what would happen in either proposal it in and Ryan two or Ryan one.

Is that insurance companies would cherry pick the healthy people cherry pick the best people to ensure.

And as a result that the folks who remained in in in Medicare would really is within their costs a lot so either way whether it's Ryan one or -- -- Brian.

It you're still gonna leave seniors and it very dire situation.

As opposed to traditional Medicare.

Which is a safety net through which we have said for more than fifty years we're not gonna let -- author of the Barack Obama thinks that's unacceptable Mitt Romney has fully embraced.

You have said in the past that people can be excluded for preexisting conditions under the -- about -- -- do you still hold to that.

That people under Ryan budget -- -- -- commission looking healthy affordable care.

Which means that yes we would return to the days when insurance companies could deny people but not -- not -- -- said that about senior citizens because -- the Ryan plan specifically.

Says that senior citizens with preexisting conditions could not be excluded for -- But Paul Ryan's plan.

Whether it's the first one when a second when guys in this threatens the safety net for -- it turns Medicare into a voucher program.

It -- -- are all -- the only the only thing though -- -- on for those who wanna choose to go with it a privatized we made a decision more than fifty years ago John.

That we were going to make sure that with family is when no longer gonna be medically bankrupt trying to care for seniors.

As they -- aging and their health was declining because that's what was happening back before Medicare passed.

Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney would allow seniors to fall right through that floor because they would pull the rug out from under seniors.

Give them about their tell them they're essentially on their -- Drive up their health care costs and then cost spent their families even more money because someone is gonna have to make sure that those that those those seniors.

Don't that get sick and have no one to care for them and no way to pay for.

When it comes to the president's health care plan the Affordable Care Act there have been potential problems that have been pointed out what that Congressional Budget Office says it would increase taxes by 500 billion dollars over the course of ten years -- that it would by slowing the growth.

I'm committed -- by 500000500.

Billion dollars to would be a 500 billion dollar tax increase.

This is from the CBO because of the Affordable Care Act it would also slow the growth of Medicare wanna be very clear about that not cut Medicare would slow the growth.

By 500 billion dollars over the same period.

CU mass actuary not cut benefits like with what they're Republicans say -- decisive that are very -- slow the growth of Medicare.

That's also by the way.

While -- Paul Ryan's plan with that Mitt Romney's embrace.

Repeal the Affordable Care Act they do not repeal -- their budget the same 500 billion dollars in cuts look let me just get better not -- -- -- Let me if I -- connect to the point I was making an actuaries report from CMS which administers Medicare found that the slowing of the growth of Medicare.

Under the Affordable Care Act would have an impact such that by 2019 and -- appear on the screen 15% of hospitals skilled nursing facilities home health -- health agencies.

Would have to withdraw from providing services to Medicare beneficiaries merge with other provider groups -- -- substantial portions of Medicare costs.

To their non Medicare non Medicaid payers have.

There are problems with this one as well in terms of delivering service.

In a difference between.

Being Romney Ryan approach and -- a -- Republican extremists in the Tea Party who have proposed.

31 different times and in the House of Representatives to just repeal the Affordable Care Act.

If that they want to make sure that we can go back to the days when insurance companies can deny coverage or drop you for preexisting condition.

They want seniors to go back the time when the doughnut hole was space and thousands of dollar gap in coverage for their prescription drugs -- I -- the Barack Obama.

Have stood behind the last senior online in my district in a drugstore who went five or six prescriptions -- -- the counter.

They have believed to with three of them behind because they can't afford to take them all home because of the doughnut hole.

The affordable Barack closes that donut hole makes sure that -- it can afford their prescription drugs and make sure that seniors have access to preventative wellness visits.

So they can stay healthy instead of waiting for -- sick before they go to the doctor.

That's that both of the seniors that I represent we're gonna keep them healthy.

Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney would lead them to.

Have massive gaps in coverage and drive their health care costs up shred the safety net and let them fall through that floor -- unacceptable.

Let me switch gears of -- you probably -- talked with John McCain a couple of minutes ago we are a little bit of that priorities USA at.

Should should the Democrats.

Be releasing an ad that accuses a presidential candidate of being response through inference of being responsible for a woman's death.

That that first of all that's -- priorities USA understand not a general -- a -- well it's a priority is US space super pac -- correct which we cannot and other immigrants.

I have no idea the political athlete affiliation.

Folks who are associated with that the -- I'm used to work in the White House work for the Obama campaign to president.

That it does that is a super pac ad that is not affiliated with the campaign or with the party however the end but what I think and he added that there's no question.

At the ad raises facts.

Such as that Mitt Romney when he was CEO of -- capital.

Bankrupt the companies lay off workers cut their benefits and made millions of dollars in profit and that and that -- Points out that there are consequences to making decisions like that that impacted people's lives and a significant way -- this that's when I -- my idea or that this.

Idea that the timeline of the ad is such.

That -- direct inference is that because this man lost his health insurance is what dialogue cancer does not appear to be the case she had her own insurance under with with her own employment lost that insurance it was six years what -- Insisting that there's no indignation and the hypocrisy that that that that that exists where where is the indignation on the other side that.

Super pacs affiliated with with Mitt Romney's campaign or.

In support -- -- on him I don't think that I've ever run an undercurrent for -- nobody has died they've they've just infer that Barack Obama is -- an American.

They've questioned the whether his birth certificate is legitimate that that there are so many.

Questions and and that question Barack Obama's patriotism and whether he's even an American where the same indignation is fox.

Condemning the super pac ads and supporting Mitt Romney in the same way that there's been such you know indignation over that span the bottom line is Mitt Romney as -- -- capital.

Profited.

From.

Bankrupting companies like GST steel.

Cutting their benefits firing workers and made money anyway.

And there are consequences that have an impact on people's lives and the person and that -- wanted to talk about what you thought the impact on his family.

If -- you mentioned indignation and I wanted to get your sense of something here -- my colleague George Stephanopoulos last week.

Talk to you about Harry Reid's accusations that Mitt Romney did not pay taxes for ten years came from an anonymous source who insofar as talk about it on the floor of the senate.

Back in April you were accused of favoritism.

By an anonymous source to which you said we put up here on the screen quote I don't know what they're talking about.

Those famous anonymous sources that never had the nerve to actually say what they're saying make accusations on the record.

There was indignation there where's the indignation now about senator Reid quoting anonymous sources.

Actually really glad that you brought this topic up because it's another opportunity.

Talk about the secrecy the penchant for secrecy that yeah speak to that this issue that Harry Reid has raised.

Has it was not raised by Harry Reid.

It -- there are countless journalists.

There are countless voters and leaders who have at insisted.

And Mitt Romney should release more than one year tax returns and -- not done that -- we're where's the I don't show about anonymous sources I.

I don't head back in April -- -- -- -- Harry -- sources are.

And and that -- -- should be quoting anonymous sources if it that is particularly in the Florida senate.

Harry Reid has his own sources the bottom line is I'd like to know.

How many years of tax returns didn't admit Romney review and asked Paul Ryan think to give him when he was vetting him for vice president and.

If you going to require -- the release of those tax returns Barack Obama and Joseph Biden released twelve years of tax returns.

And -- is released one.

And a partial view of the second one job at it holy father.

Its own father knowledge on that McCain released more than certain clues about twelve -- -- didn't release his wife's ten inches of you can make a lot of arguments what is appropriate that they're not running for president.

That the -- major patent Mitt Romney is the first major party candidate for president -- states in modern times not to release.

At least twelve years of tax returns it's unacceptable.

And there's a reason we've seen a glimpse of why hasn't released and it's because he's got investments and -- West Bank account in the Cayman Islands.

And -- corporation.

Why -- American businessman -- Swiss bank account or investments in known tax havens if not to be hiding something.

Atlanta needs to come clean for that matter now a -- as Paul Ryan.

-- -- needs to show American voters.

At least the same number of tax returns that he asked Paul Ryan too -- to -- him when he was betting that the vice president Debbie Wasserman Schultz it's I was a disadvantage like Matthews is with you thanks regarded by pretty honest enough.
