And a good Monday morning to you it is time to recharge the presidential race governor Romney's newly chosen running mate.
Hits the campaign trail.
I'm John Scott I'm laughing shaking my -- you were working all weekend because of this news we all -- -- What an and one where the other we're glad you're with his everybody I'm generally in congress and Paul Ryan heading to our Iowa today.
On his own this time around making the trip at the same time.
The president is campaigning in the same state.
-- congressman Ryan will be meeting with voters at Iowa state fair.
His visit follows two full days of campaigning -- governor Romney who is in Florida today -- mention.
The Republican presidential ticket drawing some big crowds this weekend following mr.
Romney's announcement on Saturday.
And with congressman Ryan on board some say voters now have a clear choice on Election Day.
Kimberly straps of the Communist of the Wall Street Journal has -- a couple cons about this including one published today can and the final line in your Colin really struck me you said.
And I if heat meaning Mitt Romney wants to win the White House it needs to be -- the beginning this -- what's next what do you watching for next.
While he pistols -- very bold pick and what it was it was an acknowledgment by governor Romney that he is strategy up to now which was to run a referendum on the president and -- say he doesn't deserve to be reelected based purely on his record wasn't necessarily winning him in this race that he needed to provide.
A huge contrast and actually say our ideas are better you did not vote just against him you need to vote.
For us and that was behind the pick up Paul Ryan because he has these big ideas.
Now they're going to be attacked for those and the only way that he is going to continue and possibly win the White House is -- -- willing.
To defend those ideas as he was to pick mr.
-- -- -- do you think he has.
Well you know was very encouraging I think conservatives this in the sense the taken that you have seen them go out they would have been talking about some of mr.
rent that -- about entitlement reform about tax reform.
They're not hiding from the fact that this is what he has.
Run on in his own life up until now and they seem to not be shying from the fact that Democrats are going to hit them on us again and again and particularly on Medicare.
Eight in your Kron that you've been complementary.
-- Paul Ryan and it's this pick as well what do you think -- Paul Ryan's biggest vulnerability.
Well again the Democrats are gonna go after him on these plans that he's put forward he in particular he has a very aggressive budget plan.
To cut spending but also some very revolutionary ideas.
To try to reform entitlement programs like Medicare to preserve them for future generations.
Now what makes a Ryan's sole very attractive to the Romney campaign is -- not only has he put these ideas out there.
But he's proven that you can -- on him the win on them you know he.
Actually comes from -- -- very competitive district in Wisconsin full of a lot of seniors a lot of moderates a lot of independents.
It's not a slam dunk that he would win that.
He is gone out walk -- run on these ideas explain then people and he has repeatedly won that district with more than 60% of the vote this is a district that voted for Barack Obama.
So the idea in the campaign here is yes we're gonna be attacked but the American people are open to an argument about this if we explain it well and and Paul Ryan has proven that you can do that.
And we -- -- the president's campaign come out and say these ideas are too radical of their two extremes so we're gonna see that line developed one of the things that you also mentioned in the article of that.
Mr.
Romney really.
Complemented congressman Ryan I'm not only being Smart not only being serious but that he doesn't demonize his opponents.
And I thought was really an interesting thing that you brought up because one of the things that we talked about before instantly has been a part of the conversation in this campaign.
Is that Mitt Romney hasn't been aggressive enough against the president's teens are against the super pacs that are out there.
-- what do you think about the strategy now at both of them have that sort of personality where they're not going to demonize their opponent.
Is that a -- potentially in the campaign.
I think they would argue it's not a weakness -- it's a strength this was a very specific strategy if you look at how mr.
Ryan has won his district.
He does -- by presenting himself as the grownup in the room.
The guy who's willing to talk about the serious issues vs an opponent who often is a leveling cheap attacks.
That's what they did very deliberately when they introduce mr.
Ryan on Saturday they adopted that approach they basically said.
We're the guys that didn't tell you top truce.
We're gonna have a serious discussion the president is gonna go after us over small issues they're going to try to personally -- minister to try and scare the country.
We're not gonna do that and am betting that that is and and and issue and a message that will resonate in particular with independents who lets not forget.
One of the reasons they voted for Barack Obama was because they -- thought they were sending to Washington a guy who was gonna be a leader rise above the politics.
And what though Romney -- ticket is now attempting to do is is what's that turned the tables and -- actually -- that side where the people who are gonna have the tough and serious numbers into the.
Assailant what works in Wisconsin at that also works in the other swing states out there.
As he watched his campaign progressed -- nice to have you as always thank you so much for the time that.
