Defense officials now confirm they are investigating an army general for accusations he improperly spent.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayer cash.
His name is William Ward he's a four star general -- not the highest ranked in the army.
He's also the former head of the US Africa command which is responsible for hot spots including Somalia and Libya.
So here's the story.
While he was in charge over there he's accused of spending money on everything from expensive hotel rooms to flying around relatives.
