Yeah yeah.

Hello and welcome to health talk and Julie Banderas sitting in for Dr.

-- today oral hygiene it's related to a laundry list of diseases and tooth decay in particular.

Is the most common chronic disease affecting children in the United States so of course learning good habits early is extremely important but how do you get your kids.

To take care of themselves and how do you care for your kid's -- actress and mother.

Jennie Garth has teamed up with crest and oral B to share her tips for healthy smile and I hear the beautiful smile I'm sure that your kids will -- thanks so much.

For being here -- right so as a mom how important is oral health for your kids and for kids in general.

I think it.

It's so important and our job as a parent is TT -- kids.

Healthy habits from the Mecca state Medicaid and that's all -- to last because -- nominal and Rouse.

But I you know so many kids are not -- the importance of proper brushing -- any of that.

And they may stay in and missing school they have bad self esteem and -- so many diseases like you mentioned are costs that.

You know that oral health so this -- Something that's really a serious matter I mean it's like the basics of of taking care -- OK -- the teaching part is the difficult part because the younger ones are harder to teach but that's where you gotta start so.

Tell me your different teaching habits from your youngest kids to your older you have a teenage daughter and I I think it starts when they're young it starts -- -- two and then.

Three and four you've got -- really just get until like brushing via the read about my girls when they were a little like you're Kenya.

To hide a little toll in behind me and when I would brush their teeth at Tel oh my gosh there's -- frog eating amount I gotta get him up and innocent that would she would just be so engaged with fat.

That game and -- -- everybody brush her -- as long as I need is here and then and attend this pick out the toothpaste I would tops the little.

Toll into the sink.

And they would think that that little animals I am going to try this and I got I I have two year old she hates brushing her teeth early she -- to do it herself she doesn't like mommy to do Hamptons I -- gonna try that and I'm gonna have all -- types of toys the swelling out of her mouth.

What's hardest.

Part I guess about getting kids back into routine after -- after the summer.

Yet another thing -- summer at my house especially it's just like there are it's just a madhouse there are no rules you can stay up late watching movies.

And did he's out brush your -- yeah it's -- Argentina need to go without a shower fresh get a bit of -- -- my house but great it.

And the -- thing is something that you have to disks stay consistent went.

But as we go back to school and as we parents sort of get ready for that.

It's time to reinforce those habits.

If kids back and have flossing and brushing what are some tips I -- to ensure other moms who have children who struggle with -- You know to keep their kids -- teeth healthy and an end.

Big key here is to really start as early as possible -- -- chair and -- but we're adding -- to focus on every age because -- -- but I do think that once she started young sort of -- the time for them as they grow up and you learn how to take care of themselves which is.

Ultimately what we wanna give begins tonight in our kids right yeah I mean kids getting teach that at -- some kids get teeth at six months yeah.

Seven months old so I mean start brushing their teeth that early happening it's keeping tab bashing them you know -- just they just plan that's what they do you mean.

There's some great -- at ten.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- know it's really important to that you do it for prolonged period of time now I was reading about tips to.

Russia toddler's teeth because I need all the help I can get and I actually read that you have to do it for two minutes which.

Two minutes -- is an eternity -- you have a toddler I -- two seconds is about as long as I can keep her mouth open so -- -- is that really -- -- -- time and it's that's you know let -- a long time is long time but I think if you make it fun making it game that we.

They'll not even know that the times -- -- and going to the dentist you were saying at a very early age is as important as well because you were saying.

With your five year old you waited a little too young to go to the dentist in you're just telling a funny story about how she didn't she ask bond so well he's not careful it sentenced to my oldest is -- she loves -- -- right.

Let my middle animal that I think she kicked that entrapped and spit.

Apple you are supposed to spit out the dentist in the -- to edit the bowl yeah into the face of the photos you can see is about the count their teeth if that's all they -- on a dentist visit you know let them go in there and look at things and it's fun for them how does your oral health as a mom affect your kids.

-- -- -- I think that.

Our kids near what we do you know there and they see me taking good care of myself they -- me.

Eating healthy and taking an amazing teeth I think I just I mean I could see why -- it'll be wanted to team up with you but it means.

Eat and your teeth are so white as well and that's one thing that you do see in children here is yellow TC.

You know they're not -- properly yeah now.

So I mean that's something when they see your teeth I would imagine they would want to have that they don't -- -- have a yellow T by and they want to help these smile they want that sense of confidence that comes along with an axis toughest thing for kids right it was -- thing because.

You know that's when you -- -- -- that's the first thing that people seemed to smile and then.

You know how confident you are India when they go out you know as adults and then try to get a job or try to succeed in whatever it is that they did right.

They need that confidence so it's really an important and what some other facts that are as a result of taking care of your teeth I mean it's just not having healthy smile of course we always want our -- to look -- but there are a lot of terrible nasty side effects that could result in not brushing your teeth right read the statistics are really crazy amounts children -- needs school due to.

Amounts related problems to have problems so -- it's really important I mean and note you know it can there's so many diseases that it can.

Exacerbate.

I know for one.

You know heart disease -- as -- linked to the clapping and there's so many things he gets into your blood system which is really dangerous it's right along your gum line which is.

You know links to your to your blood system pay.

And also connected yeah I think really I IP -- we're cannot people find more information -- -- website.

Crest and -- -- web sites are.

Great and great -- about you know I've read that some toothpaste with chloride vs those without -- I got that they don't kill cavities the same -- when your kids are older.

That you need fluoride in your tooth -- this is a lot of organic tooth -- out there.

That I was reading that these mothers were using organic organic is you know that's the latest.

-- is is everybody is is using organic products that organic doesn't necessarily attack the cavities the same way that.

Toothpaste with fluoride right happened there crest and oral B they have -- in their -- is designed for children through all stages of their -- and it.

And adulthood so their different.

Tight cityscape -- based that they offer.

You know in -- with flat and without flat I think they recommend it.

Children under two counts right hot flat out how to because -- agent doing this -- -- yet it's holding you really get down the spitting some kids will get it down sooner than others -- if you use the -- technique and you've got frogs jumping out of your toddler's mouth and maybe you'll get them -- -- -- is there yet have all right well that's awesome thank you so much and I -- -- for joining me and talking to us and what inspiration because.

I'm gonna go home and stick some dinosaurs in -- mouth tonight thank you so much for joining me and if you have a health question.
