Hey what's different this time than other visits I had.
And in particular and what's different about this conversation.
Is that.
The Afghans themselves are now as she's -- concerned about this as -- again.
That wasn't always the case.
General Martin Dempsey the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in an exclusive television interview with -- Jennifer Griffin talking about these so called green on blue attacks.
There have been 32 of them so far this year ten US service members of that.
In just the last couple of weeks.
-- Is there a plan to deal with us.
Well I hope the chairman of the joint chiefs is right that there is.
Some response -- engagement on the part.
Of of the Afghan police and and the President Karzai he's not been.
A reliable partner in the past the Afghan police security forces had been disappointing to say the least.
And al-Qaeda and -- Connie and Pakistani Taliban and Afghan.
Afghani -- Taliban all these forces are thriving and growing in Afghanistan as we try to wind down this war which by the way.
Is going to be one of the most painful and costly and challenging -- -- the next president.
Which President Obama -- want to talk about.
And not Mitt Romney does not want to talk about because it's so unpopular so.
As this continues to faster and we have this challenge of these dangerous and disloyal.
And an inadequate security forces.
I'm harming our coalition forces on our own soldiers we don't have at a debate in the political campaign about how the next president will approach and and change the policy.
At the surprise press conference that he had this afternoon in the briefing room the president was asked about this he did address it let's listen to what he said.
We are already doing.
A range of things.
And that we're seeing some success when it comes to better counterintelligence.
Making sure that the vetting process for Afghan troops is stronger but obviously we're gonna have to do more because there has been -- an uptick over the last.
Over the last twelve months on this.
A stronger vetting process for -- in place like Afghanistan with all -- shifting allegiances loyalties that's that's a tall order it is a tolerant particularly since of the 32 attacks I think half -- -- -- I Taliban infiltrators.
And the others mainly by malcontents I'm not.
-- -- and what's gonna show inventing.
Wasn't particularly encouraged by that although I don't have a I don't have a better solution than we've heard from Dempsey from our from the president.
What I hope is though that this is not used as another excuse.
To speed up the already spent -- withdrawal plan of the present one that the military doesn't agree -- -- It's true that the the Afghan forces are better.
Than they're given credit for and but they're not quite where the Iraqi was when we pulled out of that the Iraqi Army was -- pulled out of there.
I think we need to extend the stay there rather than.
Make sure it's really two competing opinions here in the United States is in regard to Afghanistan Charles one is -- You're not going to be able to fix it nobody has over all of these decades.
Why try just bring the troops backs and no more than die and then there's the other subsequent purchase -- and that was stay over there until you get it right.
But the question is where's the president another quest.
We heard general -- say that the Afghans are now -- -- the issue fine and I know general Dempsey and our troops are obviously -- -- with the issue.
Is the president anyway c.s -- Afghanistan in any way.
You ever hear him speaking about and he he had to to bring it up today because it's becoming.
An epidemic was tapping into -- -- committees and as it was just happen overnight it's been happening all year a quarter of all the deaths of our.
The NATO troops over there -- this year are buying.
Friendlies.
And the president now speaks about it you know in answer to a question of Prescott was -- seen on this war.
He comes in office he spends nine months -- the ring on it.
He comes up with a policy triples our troops.
Obviously as a side effect increases -- casualties he -- complete interest in the war.
Never speaks of the people about a -- which is not going.
In which our guys are getting shot and now he's got a policy which.
It means is it even a policy US -- which ladies you wanna go who knows where he wants to -- other than.
Not talk about it you can't could conduct toward exposure troops.
And -- in some way try to explain to the nation what you're doing why.
And why it's worth having anyone dying over there under your policy and now he's policy -- one way the president could be forced.
Do that and that it would be if Mitt Romney were actually disputing.
His withdrawal plan for Afghanistan and that Enron he's taken a pass -- he's not at all as a -- -- all there is no debate and although today it's announced some college.
Governor Romney and and Paul Ryan worst were -- -- fairly strong -- president in this state Ryan saying the president -- decisions that are more political.
The military but -- also promise to -- -- consistent with me to -- national security.
Mean that's almost an impossible promised to make when you're dealing with -- like against.
It's -- specific heat he basically had the same complaint that Charles -- the president doesn't address and he doesn't inform us.
But he doesn't have a specific policy on Afghanistan it differs from the -- It's not the job of the.
Opposition.
To make the commander in chief.
Be a commander in chief if this weren't an election year.
And we didn't have a Romney you'd still be asking.
Where's the commander in chief and our troops are getting shot and why are they getting shot on the way under his orders where exactly easy going and why.
So you can have a critique of Romney and -- on this but the real issue today for the Americans are being shot as happened in the village yesterday.
The Americans train a policeman.
Hand him a gun and he takes again and then shoots them right there on the spot.
Now of that happening UN command -- -- was -- explain something not the Republicans are jobless to to make him.
What he ought to be on his own and with that we'll leave it there Fred Barnes AB Stoddard Charles it was great to see thanks much for coming into state.
