On their vision for Medicare reforms and claims that the elderly will take a big hit.

-- -- Romney administration but the GOP ticket is firing back saying that obamacare will be cutting over 700 billion out of Medicare and that the White House is using smear tactics to scare seniors.

With the GOP convention set to debut short leave the question are the attacks against the Romney Ryan keep working and are -- -- buying it.

Joining us now with some thoughts and all this former New Hampshire governor and Romney backer Johnson you.

Who is in -- -- -- for the big convention governor welcome I know that.

Florida is bracing for the storm I know you are standing by there to see how does all of -- But as we keep that as the backed up this campaign of course being called one of the dirty it's in recent memory.

What impact do you think the attack ads like the -- suggesting the GOP wants it's our -- off the -- are having on seniors right now.

Well I think it's all backfiring on the Democrats there that Democrats are really panic -- right now.

Because the seniors understand that Obama -- 716.

Billion from Medicare.

And they finally understanding that would Medicaid Medicare destined to go bankrupt.

In twelve years it's been absolutely irresponsible.

For President Obama to be running around the fund -- and playing golf instead of meeting.

-- and preparing a plan on how to save Medicare.

Governor Romney and Paul Ryan have been talking about their plan to save Medicare and President Obama as usual.

Is hiding under the desk.

Let me ask you about your personal feelings about the way -- attack ads have been going.

What are your thoughts on the way -- the visiting conducted at this point.

Well you know the Obama campaign clearly decided and laid out their agenda last August.

And a couple of articles talking about how -- strategy was killed Romney and I think they're getting burned with them.

They've spent well over a 150.

Billion -- million dollars on advertising.

And it's just raised the president's negatives.

And when you do that I don't have any effect.

They are really panic -- they're trying to lay it on things are now.

But that governor Romney and Paul Ryan -- gonna lay out an agenda of positive programs.

To fix the economy protect Medicare.

I had to get this country moving again we have young people who can't find jobs when they graduate that's a travesty.

Let me ask you the fact of the GOP convention will give Americans who are still undecided a chance to get to -- Mitt Romney a bit better.

What -- you -- -- -- -- did -- connect with voters to seal the deal.

Well I think he's got to start talking about his positive program this is a gentlemen who not only has great private sector experience.

But it really was a great governor in Massachusetts.

He took over a play a budget that was a -- -- deficit.

Turned it around without raising taxes and showed that he could work.

With a democratic legislature and people have to understand this is a man who fixes problems and he makes things work.

And he creates jobs and I think that's the most important thing that has to -- In the days ahead.

You know although the polls are showing that the presidential contest is a virtual dead heat at this point the president still comes out on top when it comes to the issue of like ability.

So hit -- the economy stupid -- like ability that the top issue in this election year why do you think.

Mitt Romney is having a tougher time on this issue of like ability -- itself.

Well you know -- is is a disciplined individual that goes about things in -- quite disciplined way.

And that may not resonate the resonate as as.

A big number on the like ability factor but it certainly resonates in terms of confidence and capability.

And I think when people look at what's happened to this country in the last four years and the disaster we have.

They're gonna go with confidence and a capacity to solve problems the president may be like all the way.

Out of office this time around.

So are we as journalists making too much of this issue about like ability.

I'm sorry say that again as we as -- are we as journalists here on the side of the fence making too much over this issue of liability.

I like -- season.

Electability electability yes yeah I think I think you are I think I there's a lot of people -- like I would in the hunt run hired to run a lemonade stand.

And -- certainly.

President Obama falls in that category you may like him but you'd never ask him to do something important.

In Romney's Ohio -- today he gave a shout out to women entrepreneurs saying if he wins he will make a special effort to help women with.

Dreams of launching their own businesses it was a departure from his normal stump speeches -- an effort.

Two of reach out to female voters with poll showing that he's still trails and getting their support.

Well that's always -- there's no question that that gender gap is something that Republicans always are.

Sensitive to address -- if anybody knows.

How to create a climate for for the entrepreneur in general and for women entrepreneurs and specifically.

It's Mitt Romney and I think they've.

Women of America who have ambition.

Who are obviously the heart and soul of this country ought to take the governor up and vote for -- The governors and it is always a pleasure to have you on our show thank you so much for joining us I know.

-- keeping close watch on all the developments there and on the impending storm that -- -- away.

Thank you it's sunny and bright here in Tampa today and we're gonna keep.

Hoping that -- moves as far west as he can indeed all right governor thank you very much.
