Governor Haley barbour's Amanda had to deal with a whole lot of hurricanes in his lifetime including -- 2008 just at the start of the GOP convention when good stocks hit the gulf.

He joins us now -- insights on how this can all play out and also to talk about -- the latest polls do or don't mean at this point in the race governor good to see today -- -- -- right you're spots thinking back four years ago to the start of the GOP convention getting ready to kick -- and a storm moving into the gulf.

-- -- to deal with -- then that you know how does that impact things.

Well that is it shouldn't -- it if you Saul which green ended this storm is going to win over the -- -- Tampa.

But hurricanes rotate counterclockwise.

Manage the -- whims of the drenching rain will be -- that these super -- and that's why these.

Party leaders have been prudent and said we're not gonna take a chance.

First of all of this is 8000 mile an hour event which is not a -- her okay.

Which you -- throughout bliss is over bridges when the winds forty miles 45 miles an hour.

But there's that spinning this out -- -- have to be taken -- if you -- six you're sitting on our way of so that would -- people waiting to enter the hall 20000 people over time.

-- -- -- What they did is not because there's going to be some catastrophe here.

But it is very prudent and even on the Gulf -- this could be -- by -- don't want but it's not this is not betray them.

But you know we always like breaking -- prepare for the worst.

Absolutely and it sounds like that's what they've done here a -- of touchy because we had some interesting conversations over the years about holds.

-- a lot of perspective having been through a number of presidential campaign some -- -- put a couple of up for -- -- first thought let's talk about us on president Obama's handling of the economy this is among likely voters.

42% of the approved 54% say they disapprove so he's -- a twelve point disadvantage there.

And -- continues to pull personally well and people continue to say.

In a neck and neck race I mean there's still very much considering voting for President Obama how does that factor with the number where they don't trust him on the economy how he's handling it.

Well is it -- because the economy is the number one voting issue the economy and jobs every vote Democrat Republican newspaper television.

Number number one and you can see why life she read a few small business -- an American decades.

Personal income the last four behaviors the United States has gone -- for files -- -- -- So sure it's the worst how do you explain that a bunch of people who think of -- Obama's failed on the economy still thinking about vote for.

They don't know Mitt Romney -- -- They've they've made the decision in their -- -- -- that this president has not done a good job.

But I think -- triumph.

And I want to see if the other guys -- better very interesting you compared to 1980 -- Reagan was behind bad points here.

At the convention hit it in all of us to find -- -- behind that point one because people thought Jimmy Carter was great they have already made up their mind that he was not.

But that -- successful present then laid out laps of about Barack Obama.

But they -- so when Reagan.

Reagan never lived in relation to -- October.

After the debate people -- Reagan who did been told was crazy dangerous warm longer super right -- and I thought.

Don't want to Chicago ice got sort of dropped him.

But it happened very late -- I see this -- -- Romney male pastors make the American people understand that not only is.

Barack Obama failure particularly on the economy job.

But that he is the -- -- they can turn this country around that can fix things.

They get their families a chance to enjoy the American dream in the future.

The question I hear motions.

How worried that this is going to be that my children and grand -- not here to -- country out here.

Barack Obama's problem.

-- -- -- -- All right so let's talk about the latest polls that we have -- the latest Fox News poll.

That we have with the Romney -- ticket at 45%.

The Obama Biden ticket 44% if you look at it real clear politics average.

A the president deals -- still haven't -- -- -- by about a point and a half.

So what does governor Romney need to do this week.

To break away from that to change the tide as you -- you know President Reagan did back in the eighties.

Well let the American people see the real Mitt Romney the guy who has been hugely successful resolve.

The guy who's coming hatton in his career -- failing businesses.

Got people to invest money including pension funds and not for profit in this money in the -- That he used just about failing businesses -- lives round saved.

100000 jobs did you save every single one of course not but -- something percent huge armored job.

Got asked to do the same thing for the Winter Olympics.

Did it successfully got to ask -- this I think for Massachusetts when it was a terrible connection should did it successfully without raising taxes.

That's what the American people -- -- -- plus.

Mitt Romney the person here's a guy whose fault lifting a very large sum of money when Mitt was -- was -- might have.

It gave it all cheers.

He said -- make and it.

I want to make it don't moan and I want this to go for the kinds of things that my father cared about -- people about your -- of the that is a fantastic.

Legacy.

For a person before -- -- about how to present day religiously that Mitt Romney that.

Paul on -- what about the fact though that the Obama campaign -- done a really good job of using the same successes that you talk about.

And highlighting the negatives talking about the jobs that were lost under -- and the things the didn't succeed and go as well in the fact that.

The Romney's -- wealthy -- out of touch and the average American is not someone they care about.

What that does the move the Obama campaign for one reason Obama can't -- record.

-- society of America is better all became so your families that are all those were not so he has to try to discredit wrong.

And it is interesting that he tries to discredit -- and some of the things we're Romney is most admirable.

But tell a little part of the story.

Also they wanna try to smear the republicans' -- Medicare.

You know every campaign did the Democrats say the repugnant to Medicare program -- -- here we're here for years and interest in the -- One time since Medicare came religious in 1965.

Has -- -- spinning actually go home dial.

It was under Democrat President Bill Clinton and and I don't blame Bill Clinton for at all they've made a good just what.

Whenever we talk about cuts in Medicare quote on quote.

They're up to about Medicare spending -- and die home Paul Ron had proposed about Medicare spin and go one up.

List by -- Medicare spent an increasing more slowly.

But never to the extent that Barack Obama did an Obama appeared that 716.

Billion dollars over fifteen years.

Out of Medicare and give it to another program.

His program obamacare.

That's never happened again though even with that Medicare's been and will go look at the American people get -- after this -- -- All right well we know the Medicare conversation is when that you are more than willing to have any hope the Republicans do well thank governor -- always good to see you back.
