While the governor's team also responding to comments by President Obama that Romney is quote extreme.

The president saying the governor has locked himself into extreme positions.

On economic and social issues team Romney saying the American people know they are not better off than they were four years ago.

Steve Hayes senior writer for the -- -- Fox's contributor with us here in Tampa and good -- to you had built at a different time of the day but it's good to see you what do you believe the strategy is.

Between the interview pre convention and to label governor Romney -- an extremist yeah I think.

What the president wants to do is set the tone for the Republican Convention have a lot of people a lot of journalists talking about this going into the convention.

And tried to make the case that that Mitt Romney is somehow on extremists try to link him to the house Republicans polls show that.

People are not fond of congress generally.

And try to make the case that Mitt Romney's history.

The other thing you said in the senator and there -- a lot in here with the Associated Press.

Whether or not he actually believes in those opinions the president suggests.

I have no doubt that he would carry forward some of the things that is talked about suggesting that perhaps he he is not -- honest truth is public views of the moment.

Yeah I think that is the suggest that in the reason the president needs to say that is because -- I think it's very hard for them to paint Mitt Romney as an extremist I mean this is a guy who ran.

For governor as a pro choice candidate they're trying now to suggested that even attempt to link him to tie -- comments.

On rate there to try to make.

Mitt Romney out to be -- the huge ideologue.

And there's just very little evidence that he actually is really very little -- his record -- he actually -- and you have the Obama team talking about how health care in Massachusetts.

Was the model for Obama -- nationally and yet at the same time they're trying to say that he's this extremist there's some real tension between the arguments they're making do you.

Feel that the Romney team has to respond strongly to this whore and a miss Ottawa iron I think they totally ignore Estrada totally ignore -- yet.

-- you do two things here they needed.

Lay out for the American people who Mitt Romney is and what motivates him and they need to provide a plausible alternative.

To Barack Obama.

For the next four years backs their -- it's very simple and to the extent that they -- -- to tit for tat.

On these kind of comments I think they're distracting they're being distracted from their -- one other thing that he mentioned in -- -- Here we're gonna talk to Karl Rove a bit more about this -- about 35 minutes but suggesting that he would be the one willing to work with Republicans in congress.

If you were to win a second term.

You have a compromise president.

This is the most interesting a line from this entire interview I think where President Obama portrays himself as sort of this compromise as somebody -- be willing to work with Republicans.

If he's reelected what would why would the president say that.

And the interesting I think obvious question for journalists now going looking beyond the Republican Convention.

It into the Democratic Convention is.

On what issues would President Obama.

Compromise with Republicans and why won't he talk about them that he should lay them out he should make his case and he's really going -- To become disinterested a second term there's a lot to talk about the senator will pick up again with Karl Rove have a good to see you Steve good -- -- see if throughout the week all right -- X two weeks in -- fantasy.
