Thanks and of course governor Romney and congressman Ryan will be the center of attention in Tampa.
But conventions also serve as a springboard for rising political -- so who could see a boost to their standing within the party.
Let's get to our panel of campaign insiders packet -- a former pollster for president Jimmy Carter and Fox News contributor.
Doug -- is also Fox News contributor and former pollster for Bill Clinton and former Republican congressman John the -- BA of New Yorkers with us as well gentlemen.
Good -- to all three of you I've got a list of names you're gonna run by.
That Americans will see in prime time -- rubio senator from Florida.
Chris Christie governor from New Jersey and of course Paul Ryan the Republican from Wisconsin -- I want to begin with you.
Because the the idea of this segment was to try and figure out who will emerge as a potential leader down the road.
But not one of view agrees would anyone on this list.
All three of you believe this is Mitt Romney's convention he needs it fine on his -- -- -- What does Mitt Romney take out of this convention what is his objective would you put on the line.
Well bill if we're gonna remember -- and it came out of the convention mean from reasonable loss that because that's the only speeches of people will get a boost for the next election.
But someone wins everyone forgets I'll tell you what he's got to come out what he's got to move this through the state of urgency.
He's got -- vision he's got to solve the Dallas some people have about him all of which is in his -- If he is able to do that at this convention he can leave here the presumptive favorite if he fails he will be really behind the eight ball.
You say it's make or break for rock -- you have a make or break it's coming our credibility aren't that.
That's right this is it they've got for two months ago they didn't.
Do with -- in the spring what they needed to do which was to establish and upon Romney they need to do it now look at Obama's been doing.
All right Doug what do you think of that is it make or break for Romney well I I I think yes I mean I think bottom line he has to give people.
A reason to vote for him I think what he's concluded.
Is that it's not enough to just attack President Obama.
Yes bill there's a lot of doubt about the president's handling of the economy yes there's a sense we're heading in the wrong direction and more adrift.
But nobody really has a clear sense as to what the Romney alternative is is 59 point -- notwithstanding so as pat suggested.
This is his chance to tell people why he should be elected.
And why they should be comfortable with them as the country's chief executive.
To the former congressman now what about that vision that needs to be expressed in Tampa -- what is it.
I think the vision it and it fits -- you know Romney has been for his whole professional life and problems solved or.
And a good person he's not a great political candidate but I think by all -- he's a good person.
Who needs to show himself through this convention.
As someone who will go to Washington as president.
We suggest he say that he'll work for a dollar a year.
That he's not in it to feathers on -- obviously he's in it to solve the nation's problems.
And is part of the vision he ought to tell the truth to everyone in the building and on -- day.
That the mess in Washington has been created in part by both parties.
And we're not just any -- you would imagine too that that's part of the reason why he chose Paul Ryan.
Well Paul Ryan goes to the heart of the federal budget mess and that's his strength.
And we still don't know totally whether that is gonna turn out well whether we.
In debating Medicare whether that is something that we can win on but we now are doing it.
And he's got to sell that -- on Thursday night that at all is part of a package we fixed the federal budget.
Fix the debt problem and that will fix our economy and grow new jobs in our country.
I have 45 seconds which means fifteen seconds for each -- you pat what you wrote down earlier today is a controlled the definition of this election.
How do you define that.
Right now the question is whether you don't believe in the Obama campaign wants to make it a choice in the Romney is unacceptable.
The Romney campaign wants to make -- a referendum but there is a bigger definition.
-- which hurts Obama it helps Romney if they can get to a which is what John was saying Doug if there's urgency in this campaign the country faces crisis winter is coming.
And I'm a problem solver in here is a vision to grow the country in the economy.
-- if they can make a big they can control what they can.
See Doug how would you control that definition to be it's very simple -- its grow the economy create jobs.
Take the country in a different direction from President Obama.
With -- specifics.
As well as a vision of the kind of country we are we are exceptional we are unique.
-- we get back to that.
I heard the congressman gets his definition do you want to add to that last answer sir what that one other thing I think that in watching the governor today on.
FOX News Sunday he was very attractive he gives a great interview but what I would urge is that.
He channel the -- the pants the fear that is out in this country about where this country's going.
And he needs to.
Stop being quite so cop he he has he's the only one who has a chance to change the direction in this country everything is on him.
And he needs to on Thursday night look at the American people and say I hear you.
I'm gonna lead you and we are gonna change the country for the -- Gentlemen thank you generally aide Doug -- -- gentlemen thank you can get more from the campaign insiders every Monday 10:30 AM eastern time.
At live dot foxnews.com.
