-- -- clashes with congress President Obama now saying that he's ready to make concessions with Capitol Hill lawmakers.
If he is reelected -- minutes.
For me to be able to say to the Republicans election's over.
No longer need to be focused on trying to beat me.
What you need to be focused on what we should have been focused on from the start is how -- we advance.
The American economy.
I'm prepared to make a whole range of compromises.
Some -- which I get criticized from.
The Democratic Party -- In order to make progress.
But so what -- congressional lawmakers think let's ask one.
There has direct experience of the president and this quest for compromise congressman Darrell ice is chairman of the house oversight committee.
And an honorary co chair for California's 2012 delegation welcome back congressman.
What chairman and I should say.
Good to be good to be on with you and and good to hear the president saying the same thing you said so many times before and never done.
We get four years ago three and a -- -- he's been saying it's steadily and and let's let's forget that.
He is not trustworthy on this issue let's assume that he really means it.
As soon as this election's over.
He and his party will be looking at mid term elections in taking back the house perhaps taking back the senate.
So I think that the question about when you reach out to the other side you reach out to the other side every day -- you don't reach out this president's been and they don't reach out.
So wasn't that all part of the hope and change message.
Mean a lot of people voted for President Obama because they actually believed that that kind of compromise they were tired of the bickering going on Capitol Hill.
They've shot maybe he was gonna reach out all of Bill Clinton didn't really happen that -- Actually and and the course unlike Bill Clinton who didn't reach out when he had majorities.
But did reach out when he lost his majority.
This president didn't reach out when he lost his majority when he when he had majorities we understood way he ran roughshod did what he wanted to do and ignore the Republicans.
But -- we took the house and we said let's do something he did things like and invite Paul Ryan to the White House by trickery and then and then embarrass himself sure by ridiculing Ryan's program in front of them having brought into the in saying you haven't really like this.
I I don't know how effective this particular strategy would be -- I'm reelected I'll start compromising because.
It is that is only plant because there's some suggestions that there's a real good possibility the Republicans could win the senate to Republicans would have the senate.
And probably the house as well so the only thing he could do would be compromise and besides at this point it didn't look like he's got a plan to do anything the president.
Obama ran on hope and change he -- run on trust.
He's now running for reelection and clearly he can't run on trust in Washington you can be fierce partisans you can disagree.
And then you can find ways to come together there's pretty plenty of examples Orrin hatch and Ted Kennedy would be one of them that everyone knows.
It's OK to disagree it's not okay to say you're gonna do some things and then not do it and unfortunately the American people can pretty well tell.
That this president is not -- -- reach out after the election when he never has another election to face.
Well chairman there's only been one example I can remember of a compromise over the last couple years it's Ron Wyden and now Paul Ryan came together.
On some have a cosponsor reform and I understand there's been some blowback from -- Ron Wyden from other Democrats say why do you do that.
Why do you think did Republicans should be the ones who should be envisioned as people that -- compromised what evidence do we have that you guys -- -- look at a couple of.
Was this a good question and and -- hasn't just been compromising with Paul Ryan he was helpful and so -- -- something that was bipartisan.
He and I.
-- Consumer Electronics Show looking at Internet.
Innovation and -- in freedom so there are people on both sides of the aisle who have a history of coming together.
And I think you brought up the best point which is Paul Ryan is one of those people who is a reach across the aisle from the day he came in fourteen years ago.
So we're looking for somebody who's gonna reach across CIO who's -- to come down to the house and senate as vice president.
And really try to make -- change -- bring compromise he's on the ballot.
And I think people look at the secretary -- here that whispered to to Medvedev about his willingness to deal with Vladimir Putin should he get a second -- -- flexible people -- worry about that are you one of those people.
I am.
You know Russia is is a situation that that clearly we see it going the wrong way relative to real democracy in the -- wrong way relative to.
The assets of that -- country being available to broad.
Group of people.
Have a good thing -- a submarine in the Gulf of Mexico without even telling us.
Which we just we stumbled on.
But this isn't the first time in the the only difference is this one could have been lost and it.
Evidence to back up but I think in general and people heard that comment to -- they they took it.
Bigger than just with Russia they took it -- that possibly the president would have deliberately to be flexible a whole lot more things than having to negotiate with anyone else.
When the president's off here.
You -- intended be off the air remark came through it said something.
It said that in fact he's willing to say -- -- needs to say to get reelected.
And then he's willing just to behind the scenes also tell so people that are not our friends oh we're gonna do that.
Understand.
Didn't the whole history of Reagan is because he was willing to compromise but only after he stated honestly his principles and made sure the other side knew it.
That's what this president lacks is the ability to stand by his word in his principles and then make compromises and again.
That's where Paul Ryan has a history of a public history for fourteen years it's a reason that he thought he is elected -- democratic seat.
And by overwhelming majority you know it does reach the -- the lineup that you're probably gonna vote for Mitt -- is just just a few that are different paralyzed at a real pleasure thank you very much have a great convention at least here on Thursday not a sure will and it and it felt like been around me -- -- as a business background.
