When a small town -- -- mayor and now congressional candidate takes the big stage.

Saratoga Springs you -- -- -- love is running for congress.

And will be the first black Republican congresswoman if she wins.

-- RNC is pointing to the story of -- me as parents came to this country from Haiti with just ten dollars in their pockets.

One of three children -- says she was raised to work hard and is making it her mission to give back to society.

She joins us now live -- mayor of Saratoga Springs Utah and Republican candidate for congress.

Ms.

may you're welcome to the program it's a pleasure to meet you I'm so excited to be here so I love -- story -- parents came here from Haiti ten dollars in their minds again and US about the advice they gave you when push came to -- about self reliance.

And relying on government.

Well I remember taking my dad to college with me on the first day of orientation.

And he looked at me very seriously seriously he said via.

Your mother and I've done everything we could to get you here we've worked hard and never taken a hand -- you're not going to be a burden to society he -- -- back and thank goodness that didn't go in one ear out the other -- actually stayed with me.

How does that -- do you use that in your life.

Well if you think about it as mayor -- took springs I have to ask myself several questions quite make any new commitments is -- affordable and sustainable is that my job.

And you know I hadn't been doing everything I can to give back to make sure that I we have -- fiscally sound city.

I think it's not rocket science not most of that is really step out of the way and that loud the economy to -- allow businesses to come and then -- resources and so it's been.

It's been fun you know Barack Obama has a different message and he talks about how you know we need to be -- brother's keeper.

And that there's an obligation not to just let people go it alone as he puts it.

It's unfortunate because Obama that Obama's vision of America is a divided one.

You know if you listen to even the vice president's comments when he comes out and he says they want to put you -- back contains.

I think that those things it's inappropriate.

I think that -- if you've got a leader we need a leader that's going to unite Americans because I mean it's just.

That's not how old but that's -- what we're supposed to do you think they mean.

-- country that's united as a lot stronger than a divided country.

We want to make sure that we're keeping people together where we were looking at Americans all equally.

And people just want opportunity they don't want a handout they want the opportunity to work.

Say -- from new -- that here's the republic and the dead -- headline out of this Reuters -- is black Mormon in female.

You top Republican in -- new hope.

So black Mormon and female that's not -- We visited several Laurie -- talking about how governor Romney plans to discuss in part his Mormon is a release his experience as a Mormon missionary Baptist our minister.

When he takes his speech on Thursday night of closest country getting their first sort of look at -- -- -- And a look at the Ronny boy ways and their their upstanding young men and they don't drink and they don't smoke and they're all married to the same wise they Mary first time around.

Is there anything you feel like people need to know about Mormon -- of.

I just think about that -- think about Mitt Romney how he's a great dad and how he's just a great he's in love with his wife what's there not to like him.

I mean he's he's devoted and -- You know I think that the -- -- save this really you're going to find a lot of similarities with any Christian faith where god fearing we believe in these parents and so those are the things that you know.

No alcohol ever.

Now ever.

Ever not like a glass of wine with Thanksgiving dinner well you know I wasn't always Mormon.

Is that now held out since then yes I I add became a member of the church.

Currently on right after college but I was always apartment I was thinking about until I heard that Laker -- I -- my you know I really love my Chardonnay -- -- expect that.

The and it just kidding father Jonathan I'm -- I think that's.

I would like you but tonight do you feel nervous I mean you know we obviously your public figure and you're running for congress -- you give speeches but.

This is a big deal and there'll be millions of eyeballs watching you now just now but tonight.

You know -- -- big deal I wanna make sure that we all remember the America that we -- and now.

Just our story has been -- for just over 200 years.

And I -- to get back to that I didn't let you know when there are many Americans I deal that I do for the first time in history we killed as a like I told you not going to receive the same opportunities we've had it got this debt looming over their heads we've got people who are out of work some people who just stopped looking for work.

I mean it's really we've got to get the economy back in order -- couldn't get back to the America that we know and love.

Hey it is your Stanley going to be watching tonight they well they wow what a proud moment for all you have -- I'm here to represent you Todd and their support for Mitt Romney and we're really excited about good -- I guess right now you are you're behind in the polls but if you took his seat would be a very big deal to win this from this from -- democratic we're moving up and we're gonna win.

-- love thank you so much -- legend Nina thank you all about thank you well.
