This is -- your son tag says that you are the great -- Stabilize there and you had a sad that sometimes you feel you have to talk him off the rails.
When do you bring out the stabilizer -- what is it again.
Well you know -- can get intense sometimes.
And maybe people don't recognize that that there's also times when he's.
Just.
By stabilizing -- -- it works both ways we can just talk talk about.
You know it's not -- anything specific that I do it's just been -- been around each other I think just being around each other.
Gives us a sense of -- security and sent serenity and peace and at all those good things that just happened just by being together.
The great Mitt stabilizer is not available in stores it is in fact and Romney who you saw there with her husband.
With Chris Wallace is exclusive interview with the two of them at their summer home in New Hampshire you watch that on FOX News Sunday could you watch it every week.
And this is power play and I am Chris firewall an Internet welcome back to Tampa.
We are having a heck of a good time down here at the Republican National Convention.
And part of the excellence.
Is that people like Chris Wallace can be found and convince to come and do this probably against their better judgment and that of their agents can.
We thin and I thank you did -- there's a waiting list together yeah.
And I and I just had a problem.
One moment of personal privilege by anything yes I just want to say that I think we need to stop all of this nonsense.
About not holding a full convention.
Barack Obama gave a speech in the reception diplomatic reception room and -- you know what he did while he went -- a campaign trip.
He is going today to Iowa and Colorado he's not canceling his campaign because of the concern for the people -- the golf.
He's concerned about the republic golf but he know where that campaigning has nothing to do with the the rescue efforts particularly in the first hours.
In that area.
And and that's my feeling about this convention the Republican should stop worrying about -- what's the message going to be they should house to hold their convention.
And it if I thought it would save one life.
To cancel a -- of this convention I think canceled it won't be that they're two totally irrelevant things so make your grace notes about how we're concerned about the people in the golf as we are.
But go ahead and we don't.
Electing a president is a big serious field and they had a goal hadn't holed his next three -- -- without apology.
You hear that Republicans mr.
Wallace mr.
Sunday has told you what to do now be about your business what I thought that I guess some of our colleagues in the media and -- -- -- name names but political and National Journal.
Have been playing this thing up like well maybe they should just to the roll call on Thursday and then -- really shouldn't give an acceptance speech.
Balderdash.
Boeing -- just go ahead and hold -- convention.
That is the country can handle two things at one time and it just as it's perfectly fine too -- for a bomb at a campaign today it's fine.
For and Romney and Chris Christie to speak tonight.
OK duly noted now about and Romney got sick so tonight's her big deal tonight's her speech Chris Christie is -- is the headliner but for the television viewing audience at home.
And we'll talk later in the show by the way about the significance of Chris Christie for an ideological reset and re branding of the Republican Party I wrote about that today -- like that but and -- for the viewers at home.
In an election where the persuade able voted just as they are in every election but in this case for the the -- key voters are moms.
They're middle and come their suburban battleground.
Counties.
And Romney seems to have a good touch with these folks what does she have to do tonight to help these women see her husband in a different life.
Well yeah I think you're exactly right I think she is a I would say secret weapon but he's not -- -- a very powerful weapon for the Romney campaign and and you know I didn't know this until I was up in New Hampshire.
They had a vote.
The round Romney family before they decided to embark on this enterprise.
-- the Romney is their five sons their five daughters in law.
Tended to not to run including Mitt Romney not to run the two that said.
Go ahead and you have to run.
You have a skills that you have a lifetime of experience that is -- specially.
Important right now that that this country is in terrible trouble in the direction of -- in terms of the economy and all of the regulation and taxes and -- certain -- And you're the one who can.
Take us out of the trough an -- and and get things going again.
So I think she'll make the case Romney and that is very important and as -- you say I think she can reach out to it to middle class voters she can reach out especially to women.
But in addition obviously and you know there's is no great.
Brain surgery to say this she's.
Got to play humanize him got a warm a mob got to tell a few funny -- -- and I will say again from the time I spent this weekend with them in New Hampshire.
It she is great at kind of humanizing.
Warming up.
Mitt Romney and and making him more relatable the people says she's not.
She's not every woman she is not you know Michelle Obama talks about her J.
Crew and she talks about growing up in the the Southside of Chicago with a -- news sanitation worker and Romney is -- was a child of privilege not massive but certainly she.
She has a life's story that is.
Her struggles came later in life.
I was -- -- -- -- but went to those -- great inside avenue and we're talking obviously daughter her health problems right when she's told you know -- as a young woman.
That he's got multiple sclerosis a young woman with five kids that she's got MS -- and then she's told that she has breast cancer and her story of -- Mitt Romney.
Got her through that and as they are doing the Olympics he's the one who is sitting there doing the Olympics and not in 2002 and then.
Going I would end.
You know and and getting all the food and and preparing dinner for her it's it's a very sweet at the very Hume human -- store.
Well let me say this there is very evidently -- -- defense.
In the fierce -- and order of their love you can really see that these are people who got who do love each other out -- -- -- that come through in person.
Absolutely well I'll update that story in 1980 I was covering Ronald and Nancy Reagan.
And you know they'd be on the campaign trail together and occasionally she'd go -- -- one way to go off and another and there -- -- and their guests and we're pretty hard -- group the White House but in that case the Reagan press corps.
We would look away because -- was so.
-- felt when that.
Mitt laughed after this morning in that that morning -- Monday morning in New Hampshire.
And they had kind of the same thing and I felt like I was intruding because this was.
A husband and wife -- were very upset about the fact they were gonna see each other for a few guys to be to be well and truly love is a good thing.
Chris Wallace who I feel that from you I do well on the Internet feels that from you so it's all coming together we're senator John -- bombing may be a -- there.
-- But watch him on Sunday watch him all week with his great convention coverage you'll be here during all that fun stuff OK we got to take a quick break.
But when we come back we're gonna talk about social issues they're not exactly front and center.
We're gonna talk about that we're gonna talk about how Republicans -- with that we're gonna talk about the health care law.
With the attorney general.
The commonwealth of Virginia he's my attorney general I hope I don't have any warrants outstanding or any thing -- will do that when we come back and get the semi or chat.
-- stick around.
It -- -- period this is language that was stock language used for lots of different bills bills I didn't author.
And that language recently moved to be very clear and I agree with that removing that language so -- are very clear rape is -- period end of story.
And that was Paul Ryan very quickly and urgently talking about what the definition of rape is.
A topic that was put into the republic and tickets -- By Todd -- -- congressman from Missouri running for senate who had the worst blunder so far of the cycle.
And this is power flag welcome back welcome back to -- to the Tampa Bay history center which is awesome.
So here's the deal for Paul Ryan.
He's quite a social conservative he's down the line he's pro life he's he's every box is checked in his social conservatism he's -- ardent Catholic.
He's all of those things but that's not what he is putting forward this year that's now what -- -- Mitt Romney are putting forward.
And we have watched some discomfort.
For Romney and Ryan that was Ryan last night in his interview with Brett bear on special report.
Just trying to get through this subject and get back to what he wants to talk about.
Now Alice -- Is a friend of this Internet telecast and allies and you know.
Was the chief communicators for Rick santorum's presidential run before that have been with Michelle Bachmann.
And the narrative for this whole cycle Alice has been Republicans trying to not talk about social issues.
Meantime the two -- -- you had that did very well at different points in the race.
Did it by talking about the social issues by bringing the -- So what's the solution for the GOP there's obviously two minds here inside -- party.
All right did not want to talk about that last night but tomorrow and -- but tonight Rick santorum's gonna take the stage over at the Tampa Tampa times forum.
And he's gonna talk about it so how they -- this belt.
We will on the -- have -- fantastic speeds up compared practice thus have relayed in the mind it's a wonderful speech have you talked him since he's been down here.
Yes we had dinner last night okay SN he's practicing speaks his really -- very heartfelt.
But it it's on all the issues and it's not just about the social issues and it's on all the issues he tells -- little bit more of his story.
But all of these candidates.
Have talked about the number one issue which is the economy and jobs as well and -- what does happen is that the Democrats.
And that Obama administration liberals they don't want to talk about the economy and jobs because it's terrible they don't want to talk about.
-- administration how the policies of failed to make things better.
They don't want to focus on that so they're gonna go off and talk about.
These social issues and about how claim that women want to get free birth control pills and shift the focus on abortion.
That's not what people are talking about Chris you're all over this country just like I -- And people are concerned about the economy and jobs are concerned about the debt that's being left to their kids and grandkids and that's what.
All the candidates have been talking about they -- time and time again and when they're doing -- with these candidates those are the questions that are asked unfortunately.
The social issues get front and center in the media but.
The candidates are out there in the Romney -- tickets gonna do what they've been doing they keep their eye on the number one issue.
Which is the economy and we're going to hear more about the personal stories this week but the economy's -- -- and specifically one note we'll hear.
I'm more of today is.
Yes we did build it.
In president Obama's and well if you have a big you know it really didn't build that well they're gonna say we'll -- you did you know gonna show what they're gonna do to encourage private sector of the.
Right now about Mitt Romney's social views are not it completely in sync with the Republican Party platform.
He is makes exceptions on abortion exceptions that are not mention the Republican Party platform.
There was tension.
A very evident on the campaign between.
Senator Santorum governor Romney about.
Senator Santorum suggesting that Romney was not stringent enough on these issues that he did not take a hard enough stance.
Does that have any overhang is there she is there any thing they -- that that could lead to division within the party.
And here we are going into the GOP convention and this is -- times and to clarify where they stand on those issues and the Romney -- ticket has made it crystal clear.
There are pro life ticket right they do support abortion in cases of rape incest the life of the mother -- can't be more clear than that and that's all they need to do is clarify their position which they.
-- -- is that good enough for social conservatives are those exceptions but.
But to -- some.
-- -- It's not unusual right -- conservatives are perfectly accepting of the idea of of while they are extremely pro life -- pro life from conception until natural death.
They do support abortion in cases of rape incest and life of the mother and and that does.
Mitt Romney's position -- -- Romney Ryan position and they made it crystal clear.
Tokai so when he gives his speech.
Tonight what as if as you were talking to him.
What does he need to do in terms.
What he's got to do for Mitt -- but also what he has to do -- -- this is a legacy moment for senator Santorum what he need to do.
Well.
Senator Santorum did a great job of of galvanizing the evangelicals and galvanizing the pro life movement.
And what he's going to do is he's gonna continue he's gonna carry their message out there as well with at least on -- -- your -- -- he has.
He's going to continue to carry their message out there.
But is also an opportunity for him today to tell more of his story.
Touch on to -- -- heart strings no doubt but it's it's an opportunity to.
So the people of this party in of this country.
Part of the conservative movement in the Republican Party that didn't get highlighted.
In the news in the papers and that is those strong faith strong families strong pro life.
Social conservatives which are big part of this party and he is bringing them all together and -- galvanizing as you mentioned your -- some points -- Bring everyone together and get people energized and that's what we're doing right we're bringing in the -- and forms and all the different.
Aspects of the Republican Party and in this convention is a great way to continue the enthusiasm.
Think that wherever we go there's -- to help us out and put things respect -- we thank you very much like in with us today okay.
I want to show -- some.
We're down here.
Doing all of these fun things doing all of this stuff on the Internet doing all of these things with social media.
But we had a chance to catch up with one of the real mavens of social media.
In the congress senator Mike -- from Utah when -- over in Google land yesterday and we have more to show you from that later on in the show but let's take a quick look.
At what Mike Lee had to say to us in the -- back with a little more raw power play political excellence.
Senator likely from the great state -- -- -- you are one of the most effective.
And social media users in the senate.
Politics is so this certainly they only get here my campaign relied heavily on the use of social media.
An annual report to work there's a new generation of voters out there that are heavily influenced by these channels of communication.
We use them effectively on my campaign and -- use them in my senate office so.
What's typical how do you use it give me an example -- We're debating a particular policy.
Just make a brief statement and -- out in a similar statement go out on my.
FaceBook site in a much -- and so -- So.
Might my Twitter followers.
-- -- That's unlikely I know I honestly don't remember exactly how many we're up till I don't want either exaggerated or understand them but I'm -- accident Mike -- And we send those out it's a good we have communicated.
So both senator and didn't do a little more -- -- You.
In terms you know you've been part of an answer.
Com.
I'm -- more conservative.
-- and -- He didn't -- Howard junior okay.
Conservative.
Absolutely and I think it's gonna continue to have a better look in the past we -- just a few in the media outlets throughout the country were more or less controlling.
Access to information about what's happening in Washington that's no longer the case.
Including a number of channels and we.
Operating -- Okay social media sites and those are just going to continue to grow and as they -- it's going to empower Americans generally including and especially -- Thank senator.
Every time -- thank you thank will be back with more after next -- stick around.
And that is what it looks like when Chris Christie the governor of New Jersey goes impresses the flash talks -- people runs for office is a pretty good retail politician.
And he's also part.
A new brand.
That the Republican Party is trying to put forward that is very much a part of Mitt Romney strategy.
To win the presidential election this year this is power play and welcome back to Tampa.
Where we are continuing to have.
Very great fun and for the Republicans the deal is this they need a Romney republicanism.
What's -- Romney Republican what does that look like well this convention is part of trying to put an argument forward about what do Romney Republican looks like.
And Christie is a big if do you get big part of that so.
Let's break this down let's put it in perspective.
You all know -- O'Connell one of your very favorite Republican strategist he's the chairman of civic -- pat.
Former advisor to.
McCain campaign Republican people everywhere listen to Ford.
And our friend yours and ours is with us which makes this very happy she's a columnist for the Daily -- she's a Fox News contributor he also the reader -- USA today where she writes stuff too.
Welcome back.
OK so.
The deal for the Republicans is this their brand.
Not so hot in 2000 -- not -- super happy brand for the GOP which was basically like Iraq Katrina and economic implosion.
The was not where they needed to -- -- McCain try to re branding in 2008.
Didn't starting time didn't get the message out that -- -- -- with such deliberate and it's in this convention.
This brand of reform republicanism pragmatic sort of Chris Christie take on the labor unions Scott walk her kind of government reform.
Is what they're selling.
Two questions one.
Can they make that stick.
And two is that what America actually wants to start with you madam.
-- definitely Americans want reform in government.
Facing government -- historical.
And that's just it's been low for awhile but is continue to drop and Obama's done nothing in terms of that restoring those numbers.
So I think that that is something that people want the question is how -- -- they want him to go out right.
What ion engines to see is I really I really truly and I'm not saying this to be cute don't know who Mitt Romney ends and I don't know is he.
Fed governor from -- moderate governor from Massachusetts or is he this person and who's gonna wind himself more -- -- Paul Ryan.
Really aggressive reformist movement and I'm trying to think he's probably gonna put it in the middle but he's not going to be quite as -- -- Maybe Paul Ryan would be if he was president.
But he well he will be more methodical and careful and probably not do things as quickly perhaps is summoning conservative you know what you want to do so.
Romney -- -- Romney republicanism if you would have asked somebody in 2008 what is it.
The answer have been business it would have been a pro business thing now he's trying to -- -- The concept I wanna do an economic turn around and -- -- today in the power play which in fact I just pleaded for you I just gave it to him and I just -- out there for you.
And you can follow me at sea sparrow to get that you can -- yell at me here on the Internet directly if you want.
But -- my point is that.
Romney is using.
This reform conservatism that we're just talking about -- sort of like his ISO 9000 or his version and some lean sigma six -- -- -- -- corporate turnaround artist.
He comes in and he finds Paul Ryan and I -- these guys and says okay I'm gonna use your thing and I'm gonna implement this is my tool to get to my thing which is.
Economic growth.
-- that's right in the.
I think the principle that sort of on -- line that it is basically being principled -- practical and I think we see that with the polarized electorate we see that with the gridlock in Washington and I think that's why.
Someone like Chris Christie is great to kick this convention -- because here's someone who comes from Arctic blue union once they.
And -- get -- -- -- like that he has had this sort of work across the aisle but still hold the was -- that I think that's sort of rough and tumble call it like I see it -- being self deprecating.
Towards an end goal is going to be very TI expecting to hit it out apart and really set the tone for Romney and Ryan.
Going forward and and you know if he does that I think we're gonna have a whole new sort of narrative moving -- particularly with the viewership we're gonna have to really I think Harrison's right a lot of people don't know -- -- a lot about Mitt Romney and right now is really the three most important days of political life.
The question is whether anybody can have a parking that he -- I expect the five point bounce.
And that's what we're gonna need because if he doesn't get that and we sort of fail at this convention I don't like is -- for the debates because he won't just meeting.
Good performance he's gonna need a superior performance in -- -- pretty tough on the on the debate podium.
You know why we like -- because he called strikes on his team that's why we like that we'd like people who called the balls and strikes like they are.
Here's -- the challenge for Mitt Romney has been all along he.
Sort of default is a strong.
Word but he he survived his way it was a war of attrition that -- -- him to the Republican nomination arguments about electability and survived his conservative challengers kept imploding.
And going down a giant.
It balls of flame.
And he made it and Republican study was electable and he survived.
But.
The he is it's four points out and you point out blue state.
Yeah moderate Republican governor of Massachusetts not -- -- He's leading a party now that is mostly southern.
Very conservative and staunchly social conservatives so Christie is a popular figure inside the Republican Party but his views don't match up with what the Republican Party bases right.
Right but he's probably more can appeal to the general election -- about Romney needs to do he's looking AP he doesn't.
The base is gonna vote for Mitt Romney they're and they're not there and hurt Barack Obama they're very riled up they're very enthusiastic because they hit Obama so much so what he asked to do now let's check kind of -- this swing voters.
And start convincing them that he's not the extremists that the Obama campaign is trying to portray him out.
What I don't think he is an extremist I think it is in many ways he.
We don't know what the makeup of the congress is going to be right but when -- we can say is that the Republican Party is much more homogenous than the Democratic Party now.
They you know we can they're just they're -- toll lockstep and I.
-- it knowing -- it was my idea I would disagree with that and I think that's one of the things that Christine brings is he's a -- I I know I understandable impressive being -- fighters still part of it being principal -- we're not going to we gonna have to work across like there's no way that anything is -- gonna get it -- -- I really believe that Obama cannot work without congress whereas I think Romney would be able to find some conservative Democrats like Democrat party I honestly Midas like there actually are -- solution conservative people -- the democratic nominee without are a lot.
Fewer of them and they.
And and there's and there's and there's about via a lot fewer still -- -- what we've seen in recent cycles you know the what the way it used to be the Republican there's some some moderate Republicans made it -- 2010.
But basically what we're getting to is it's not just.
Ideological polarization its geographical polarization you find -- the Democrats in the -- you find me those guys.
Blue dogs are gone the blue dogs are our almost extinct.
And in the north occasionally.
You see Republicans get in but.
You know in states like new York New Hampshire that used to have considerable Republican president who -- Republicans did pretty well in new York and twenty tent.
But the -- in Pennsylvania the gulf gets wider and.
Wider a wider that the Democrats don't have a Scott Brown type I mean we we really do have some of those are going in and now thanks to this sort of primary systems gonna go on in California we're gonna lose a few of those two I do agree that both sides are getting more polarized and therefore it's important to be able to work to cross those lines and because.
We know that nothing is going to get done unless you can sell -- the congress and the both side this sort of look this is practical but you still holding your guns and I and I -- -- that's very important right and I got to ask you.
And Romney which you gotta do that night.
I just to humanize them and that that's the biggest thing if you look at like at the recent Gallup poll and asked.
-- you -- tunnel economy.
-- right now as a matter fact you can't see -- -- the -- the Internet consumer right now she's if she's taking her turn at the podium.
And being happy and smiley and pretty -- doing that stuff so they're -- She -- to humanize him because -- he's just like ability numbers are low his do you does he care about people like me are low.
And you know.
Of course Obama's doing better with on the Democrats always do better with women but that's what thirty I think -- something like 33% of women are independent -- -- so.
There are women that he can have killed -- and I think that she is this you know definitely his secret weapon on that front I think the inner beauty is solid the Chris -- I'm off to Sunday -- -- tornado definitely.
Helped me they're just a really cute couple you know -- really sweet he clearly really love service she lets.
-- -- -- -- AF dehumanizing and Chris Christie's job -- -- show that he's a solution for the future it's really a 12 punch I think and it's going to be interesting to see other plays out.
Boom boom it will be achieved -- plays -- will be watching it play out.
Will -- the last word to mock tank.
Who says.
They say Chris Wallace and others say that she needs to humanize him I did not know that Mitt was an android.
Well all.
All right so we thank you for that comment.
And we're gonna take a quick break but when we come back we're going to be joined by Bill Hemmer will continue to get.
Geeky on you we are going to talk about the role of social media we're gonna talk about an interesting opportunity you're gonna have to interface with us and interact directly.
With us.
Here at the convention and next week in Charlotte it's going to be great so you should stick around.
And that is today's Twitter political index.
Which shows Mitt Romney rocking and -- -- In the assessment.
General favorability on -- twitters between him and President Obama maybe something you might expect because Republican convention's going out.
But certainly Mitt Romney continues to outperform.
His previous numbers on social media.
Pretty big deal.
This power play welcome back and you know what's great.
They'll Hammer's great app bill hammers here of the day now well and now you know some days are better bargain than others -- Bill Hemmer.
Who whom you enjoy as -- as -- Helms with his friend Martha MacCallum.
This every day starting from ten to twelve is that correct nine to eleven.
Kinda led to a global -- if you're in Bermuda.
That's what I was thinking that I -- the coast of Maine which is under far if we aren't like press -- and -- be far off the Atlantic yeah that's the AT late tee time that's how I roll.
Big style and OK it's our advocacy.
You know we're pretty big deal here on on the dominant larger convention going.
You know.
I gotta say -- Tuesday.
I gotta say it feels like this it feels like down here there is this.
It's starting to finally -- that there's the expectation is finally growing.
That now you can start to feel because it would of the cancellation a hurricane in the anxiety about those things.
Now you can start to finally feel the delegates are here and they're starting to be that thing like this is gonna happen in this is and the distraction of that.
Storm to yes you know that that's a loss of life is the utmost importance in on everybody's express that.
We would Saint Paul into OK if I do you remember -- that we -- video from bush -- -- without weekend when all the reporters at gathered there was basically a down weekend because Monday was canceled right.
You still had a buzz about Sarah Palin because she was an unknown quantity right.
But there is nothing to do in Saint Paul.
But what do you remember from that convention now you remember Palin coming out grizzly mom lipstick on a -- -- And she did that and -- midfield and what was your lipstick on that the difference between a hockey mom and it hit ball is that lipstick -- -- right.
Our book that that was my revision and remember John McCain you don't look back and remember the hurricane right and I think -- all likelihood let's -- Isaac does not strengthen anywhere.
Further than what it is yeah that's not even a category one storm yet and I'm not suggesting that we minimize that but.
They're -- to keep it in perspective well people are thinking Katrina seven years ago this is not that story.
Can I tell you about what I'm actually really excited about the conventions is that we're partnering with Twitter.
To do assessment every night the Internet is gonna get to vote Twitter users are gonna get to vote and we'll be telling you on Fox News Channel.
What they're doing so at the beginning of the night we're gonna have -- for this Twitter political index for these guys with a question -- what's the category category is.
Overall positive sentiment for this person.
Are -- Internet like them more or less than other people where -- they stand in your people are.
And the people are will be each -- -- the speakers coming forward so here comes tonight for example when it's time for Chris Christie.
Will be able to say.
OK so Chris Christie score right now is this and I don't know what it is -- will be able to tell you right before that this is where he stacks up on his political index of overall positive sentiment -- -- And after this people come back with instant reaction to tell you how we know.
Right Twitter master it's totally -- screen we're very excited about on Chris Christie you know his role tonight he he's like -- -- -- the friars club in midtown man.
Like -- this this is where you're going to sit at a roast.
You know when it comes to.
His role and and how he's throwing a red meat down the right cage.
And just to reflect a little bit on what Rudy Giuliani did four years ago if he did he was a master -- I'd -- Chris I remember being on the floor for Giuliani's speech.
He was they were running late -- row behind schedule.
They were skipping entire paragraphs.
In the teleprompter.
Giuliani did not mince words and he rocked that he really hit -- -- -- and -- you know Sarah Palin followed him but after he.
-- he was at the friars club got.
So you could always buddy this is like a Don Rickles situation that the so that's Christie's role tonight and everybody has high hopes for him asked for and -- She's gonna make a connection.
-- how her husband.
Took care of her and her darkest hour.
Which was fourteen years ago nineteen actually talk about Chris depression.
And -- massive -- answers here.
And there is there's an interview she did on another network defense -- I didn't.
And I had a she talked about how he would climb in bed with her and hold her and let her know that it's okay.
I'm still here and that gave her the strength to get through another day Friday -- -- I don't know about you but if you're a woman I hope there and you hear that.
That's -- if it is going to be in packed full and a lot of us have been waiting for news writer in Tampa let's admit it.
Sure it would we've been no walking around in circles eating.
Well it's been pretty the I guess they got euros over the place here it's good spirits you this time tomorrow we're gonna be a completely different frame of mind.
You have to speakers tonight in the preview for Wednesday.
Bill Hemmer Houston Sanford agrees with you heard about what Christie's role is he says the GOP must go on offense starting now -- convention or there will falter under Obama messaging in the fall.
And -- the kind of -- that can.
Put the big stamp down tonight -- real and really do that right.
I agree with you so long as he fulfills.
The other that end -- bargain as always he pulls it off.
Which is there's an element of drama right and all this stuff sounds good but don't mess this up yeah -- but it but I think they picked the right guy.
He has.
A role here now.
-- he will go after this administration beaten.
Prosecutes war and will not hold back up.
That's what he's been tell I mean granted perhaps there's a line like I mean this guy's been on the beach too long evening.
What was Rudy Giuliani some shtick was present.
You can't vote present -- and he Kaymer -- and we did right bill we thank you very much greater degree and -- you we will watch bill from 99 to eleven unless you're in Bermuda unless you're in Bermuda or press Kyle but from nine to eleven you'll watch bill and Martha and you'll enjoy that very much thank you -- -- -- -- OK okay here's what I -- show -- now.
Here's what I'm gonna show you right now is another thing we're doing another tech thing that we're doing is on Wednesday we're gonna have a Google -- Gonna hang out with Google so we talked to the folks over there in -- -- world.
About how that works and a little explainer for how you can do it to take a look at this.
-- -- From the great.
Machine that runs the Internet.
We're doing something and a special this.
Wednesday our time yeah.
We're coming over here to do.
President Obama gets rid -- -- and with all the fun stuff.
And we're going to.
Some real good -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- On the floor here in Tampa.
We do all sorts of things were candidates running -- and search trends data there will be UTC and -- you can find a lot of -- -- to death comes out.
So if -- were a number of different that's that's one of the jobs -- -- and I think that.
Yeah and you can you won't remember that when we had to debate.
-- -- -- -- -- -- As a device for people ask questions and become part of the process so you guys have also.
-- So -- -- we'll -- on -- the ability to have a video chat with up to nine other people.
And that's what they're doing right now exactly -- behind -- re hearings are Hulu plus PLC all right and so this over at fox that's where I didn't exactly do.
I am with a lot of audiences you guys this isn't enough for you -- -- The media surprise guests here there.
Really the right thing and so this is obviously a little bit more.
OK anyway.
Home they can invite people and hope plus innings and also -- the ability now let's make it live.
The bitterness of anybody -- Reliance on UT UU.
Diluted share -- somebody else it's very interactive way to bring people into -- discussion.
And through a political standpoint you can bring in voters from anywhere in the country have that dialogue and even if they're not here in Tampa.
Everything that's okay so we're gonna do it at 4 o'clock on Wednesday -- -- -- we already have chosen -- -- you have to be with us.
Participate.
But there's -- way that they can go online and watch.
Exactly so you can go to the Fox News plus -- that's one place also the box is easy to.
And then you could actually takes.
Here's what's open ended coach that gets generated when there are seeing this put that on any other -- it's done right we.
We didn't even -- the -- Yes you can do whatever he wants to -- the course of the night and you can see it in a number of different places.
Received an evolution of this technology for example today you can actually join in the mobile device so you can -- -- Out in the you need maybe -- -- Talking about what's happening.
A lot of different -- -- If I win two.
I didn't Fox News yes we find -- channel.
For us and we -- get a you can get in the Olympics and you can watch it that way and if you -- post comments there they can see you could actually.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- And we look forward to Christmas but -- it's -- time.
-- -- -- This.
-- -- And those are some kind of famous Republicans who may become more famous yet that's Bob McDonnell the governor of the commonwealth of Virginia.
Scott Walker the governor of Wisconsin and Kelly I got freshman senator from New Hampshire.
And those are three of the folks that Republicans in the Romney campaign are highlighting tonight.
Here in Tampa at the Republican National Convention and this of course.
Is power play as we roll through our hour long convention bone -- out of Internet excellence.
And we thank you for coming back and joining us here so.
Do you know where conservatives go to get a lot of their ideas and talk about stuff and where they do those kinds of things is The Heritage Foundation.
Sort of the -- star.
Think tank and that kind of stuff.
-- with among -- -- and a few others provide the intellectual.
Heft for the right and we have three very good folks from heritage today they're all over the place down here in Tampa meet.
Mike franc he is the vice president of government affairs.
And former communications director for Dick Armey.
Down there at the end seated next to him is Genevieve wood she's the vice president in charge of marketing for the charity foundation which he likes to talk about stuff.
Other than just marketing The Heritage Foundation.
And Mike Gonzales he is a vice president in charge of communications.
And he formerly was a journalist and he formerly worked at the FCC.
Welcome how you guys don't gut it fund conventions over obvious yes OK okay -- inherited his big cuts.
-- -- What I want to talk to you about is we've been talking all throughout the show today about.
Romney republicanism the re branding effort -- the party reforma.
Republicanism that -- in the Christie.
The McDonnell.
Certainly with Scott Walker certainly the Minnesota stuff and that's the real emphasis tonight.
When we look.
-- Is gonna stand out tonight.
And we're gonna start with Genevieve because she has to sit here with us.
So Genevieve.
Who is going who is the person Chris -- gonna have a big night he gets the headlines if he's in prime time but of the people of the second -- tonight who DC could have a breakout night.
I think all of that you mention I mean all -- -- that's what we think Harry that's right but could.
Companies -- also seen as we talked about that the reform element and I think where they here at The Heritage Foundation a conservative anywhere else in America.
You love to hear talk about limited government less government control coming from Washington right more becoming closer.
All these people I think from the agenda but that's what they talk about.
Okay well we feel like that which who have of these to give us give you McDonnell of Kelly had any of these events that are rather lose the kind of lose the first that you think just -- give us your horse race that put.
Get -- -- bed about who's -- -- -- update besides Chris Christie I would say Adam Scott Walker Scott Walker Scott Walker's very famous they love him he won the recall we've got the two -- so let's go to the other and with Mike franc.
And Mike the question is can the Republicans this ideological re branding.
That you know as we've anti metal show what's -- Romney Republican.
And now Romney saying well he's a pro business Republican who also is a reform Republican in the mold of Ryan and Chris Christie.
Did they pick the right kind of spokesman to do that.
Well I think that the big story I see is really there is.
Dogs are barking now in the sense got an extended that does not bark is -- great platform fights as you might seen in years gone by.
And and I think it says it speaks to the fact that the Republican Party now more.
It's uniformly conservative in its view on a range of issues yes and the candy Romney about Paul Ryan of the VP the speaker to -- for tonight.
There -- the border into that ideological center of gravity which is kind of comfortably to the right.
Senator and it didn't communicate so that is no big fights over social issues as a big fights over.
You know whether they wanna cut taxes -- raise taxes and as -- might have been in the past.
I don't know that that Rick santorum's talking tonight he may have a little something.
Say about that Mike what -- you think.
Well I am I agree with Mike but Mike just said I think that we you've had we gotten evolution now that you have a party that is really conservative.
For a sort of parting we have a party of the left.
That is really pretty much I think in the mold.
Both of the of the European Socialist Party -- social Democratic Party -- -- many years in Europe there really isn't a big difference -- Democratic Party today and the social Democrats in Germany for example.
I haven't you think this is a good thing for democracy but -- have a very clear -- obviously I am a conservative a conservative views.
I would prefer to see a Democratic Party that were more conservative but I think if you want to talk about the choice that the American people have.
They have conservative ideas in they have.
Pro government ideas and -- both won the good life it's just had to get to the good life that I things where they differ I think Detroit is very clear.
Well and certainly -- another thing that we retirement today is that for the Republicans.
The brand was not in great -- It was not as you go -- coming out coming into 2000 and -- in that election the brain was not in good -- the pick of Sarah Palin was.
In part intended to shake up the brand because what McCain liked about -- -- -- she maverick his fellow maverick.
Not afraid to take on the power structure not afraid to be -- what was -- in Alaska a reform governor in Alaska and her time in office there.
They're definitely going for -- -- can stressful as a Smart piece on this in the journal today I wrote it about it in the power play Genevieve four.
Chris -- tonight.
And before all the speakers today that we talked about.
What is that what are the words what do the magic words.
That they need to market their brand with when they talk about what reform conservatism it's.
Well I didn't think what I said earlier about this is power coming from the states -- of the local level not coming from Washington but I think it's important what you just said about -- and others in the past.
I think Republicans for a while have been looking.
Who was a leader who's going to be the next face of the Republican Party.
You know Reagan was with such a strong leader island -- bush and others came along they didn't really grab conservatives and -- -- -- someone like Reagan did.
I think people have been looking for where's the next generation of conservatives.
And within the Republican Party.
And you just named off a bunch are going to be speaking tonight I -- -- hundreds of people are excited about it but I do you think people are looking for.
Please get government under control.
And yes that means less spending yes that means getting rid of things like obamacare -- people thought government as we -- -- bus tour all year right all over the country.
Everywhere we show a lot.
What people are most fearful -- -- the future of the country in the fact that government is now -- every.
Part of their lives -- did you name the issue right basic government to close and I think all the folks are talking as viewed from three's people so excited about Scott Walker -- that they don't.
Over the two mikes that same question that now you've had time -- think since -- guys we need more time to think about it.
Therefore.
-- yeah.
So I've given you time to marinate in this a little bit so the question is going to be Hoosier -- to have a break out.
Whether it's tonight or tomorrow but who's the person.
Obviously -- obviously -- future of the party all those things.
But at each of these conventions or somebody that does something -- we'll start with -- half who's your pick for a break out at this convention.
Kelly Sheila good she has I don't -- an -- number of times and thoroughly impressed content not just in terms of her presentation style.
But -- substance she's very very Smart he's tackling national security issues now for her that very point on the committee in the senate.
Whenever she goes into some area policy area she adds a lot to it and so I think she's gonna impress people as a new voice in your face and will be remembered from tonight and she has a.
Nice biography she served as attorney general of her home state actually gets on in the service I think right she seems like -- a strong woman but that kind woman and I she seems to have.
Just short of the right mix by graphically to -- -- message right.
Right conservative across the board depth in a state that it and I'm worth many across the board and another point worth making is that people were talking about.
Don't fit the would have been for -- while growing profile the Republican Party is based in the south we have percent of New Hampshire governor from Wisconsin.
Line -- you know you know it's a southern party -- that way yet yesterday -- that at Oregon you're out how we -- we haven't done nothing going to be.
Q anyway all right how they got all the time I'll stand up for somebody from the south I -- McDonnell is the need very.
Quiet guy but very effective I live in Maryland which is -- -- state yeah.
Look across the river at at what is being done in Virginia and Virginia is a very successful we cannot -- good and he's he's the Catholic in a party that wants more rite Catholics and it's -- I think easily easily bury it -- it.
The thing about him is like he's it was it it will kept secret yeah but he doesn't attract a lot of attention to themselves.
He does things and so you're saying that he may be reading more heritage briefing papers and Martin O'Malley I.
00 yeah yeah Heritage Foundation team we thank you so much you can go to them and heritage dot -- while you're on the Internet and enjoy it they're policy offerings thanks so much for making time for accidentally thank you -- what we're gonna do.
We have.
Excellence for you we have additional excellence for you had we will have the AB Stoddard and Charlie -- show which you're going to enjoy together again for the very first time it's like Martin -- you're gonna love it.
So stick around.
If you want to understand me.
It's this I'm not trying to be anybody other than who I am.
Prodded by record in congress I'm proud of the principles that built this country.
And what I want to do is make sure that we re apply those principles so we can revive the American dream and get people back on -- path of opportunity.
That is what it sounds like when Paul Ryan is keeping it real and he's going for not just various -- -- two but real real list.
He wants you to know that he is a tree stand hunting.
Wisconsin cheese loving regular guy.
Regular dad.
Regular family man who doesn't particularly like being in congress but sort of feels honor bound to do it.
It's an appealing biography if he can make it stick and if he can get the message out.
How is he doing in that endeavor will he ultimately be successful.
As a matter.
We have people that can answer that question.
Of course we do because we have AB Stoddard from the hill -- you read and Charlie hurt.
Whom you read at The Washington Times.
Who provide excellence brought excellence I would say in Charlie's case more polished excellence act and may be nothing wrong just something wrong like -- you know -- Tainted and Salmonella yet signed out but the but the -- this you two are to the -- very favorite guest so we're glad you're here in Tampa thanks haven't.
But to be with -- okay we'll see about whether that's true art AB we'll start with you all Ryan.
You saw the interview with -- last night.
And it was life.
Then it was like golly gosh I just wants to know this is the real me this is the tree stand under this is the stuff.
Can he make can he.
Changed not change but can he developed a public personality that sets him as a regular guy and an an honest guy.
Willie -- is that person and I couldn't -- When he is mr.
Ernest and mr.
-- he does his best because that's really all right.
So he's you know that it's a strong Catholic family man.
Serious -- actual.
And a very serious person and he's not in it for the spend any -- the spotlight.
I don't think he's going to present himself to the voters in the next eight weeks as someone who is -- Gray beard ready did meet with Netanyahu in -- -- problems of the Middle East.
But that's not why he was chosen -- need not be that person he's he's come in to convince voters that Mitt Romney is serious about our fiscal crisis.
And that balancing the books and -- and I -- -- Ryan is enormously endearing person.
And that it showed of that interview and if he tries to be something else it won't work.
Charlie hurt your you know a thing or two about enormously in -- people.
-- is he one of those.
I actually.
Completely as usual completely -- yeah but -- -- -- -- -- completely that you just read it if if if but you know I think that if we could stipulate that did Paul Ryan is a nerd but I think that -- nerd is sort of in and I think that it's very much his role.
-- that then he adds a real meaningful minutes to the campaign.
That I don't think where I really don't think was there.
Before.
Com and he's he allows -- but I would actually argue the that he actually needs to do a little bit more than that in this.
He needs to.
Also be a little bit of the Chris Christie.
He needs to be a little bit of the sort of the this.
The fighter that yet that -- had the junkyard dog that can actually.
Take it to these issues and I mean it would take a wire brush to Obama on.
-- and it was going to do with real credit when you -- -- -- are you tell -- about the former professional wrestler like where you go with the idea the cage fighter exiting the he was a junkyard dog was my favorite was -- every -- -- I -- -- that al-Qaeda -- right now -- -- you probably don't have a -- cage -- at all.
Well not that I have -- -- -- exactly that's not for you Linda McMahon has her -- her she's she's more of programs and and by the -- -- Linda McMahon in Connecticut.
We have new polling out today that shows that senate race competitive that shows.
Obama only leading.
In Connecticut by five or six points could be an out -- it's one poll.
Form Wednesday.
Woman from wrestling and you -- I mean obviously.
So honestly is also an America give me the state of the race -- be give me your give me your one minute stay.
Right think that they knew their new polls obviously the headline -- -- Gallup poll that show that Mitt Romney is definitely capturing and so I mean some momentum.
We don't know if there's going to be a big -- -- the convention and sticks but something's going on I believe as a result of the Ryan Beck.
And I think it's move some members.
I don't think it's good news the Romney campaign that North Carolina which I think the Obama campaign pretty much considered -- Romney's column neck and exactly how all that is just shouldn't be a tossup Florida not so good to have 45 point swing there.
That could change things in their -- internationally and I think that there are indications -- they were that Medicare number in the ABC news Washington Post poll.
That they as if the fight that they are taking to the Obama campaign.
Seven of them -- working.
Well and I think Charlie there's this sense now that the first effort to to blow up Paul Ryan and Democrats came very hard on this question about Medicare.
It didn't happen now it may happen yet Paul Ryan may be here in Florida.
It in pinellas county and here in Hillsborough County may be blown up with senior citizens eventually but so far we have that.
ABC poll and also the Fox News poll the demonstrates that people on the whole.
Are you think the -- they think Medicare is screwed up no matter what.
But it but even if even if it were to work and I think that and I and I feel like I've seen some polls that suggest that that that maybe it is working in certain.
Ares I do think that over the next seventy days.
It starts to kind of sort of I think that it will sort of softened around a little bit because.
The attack you know he's going to change Medicare as we know will yell out I mean if you don't it's gonna go in this you know down the -- and you want solvents and fine fine Charlie and so and so I mean everybody wants to change as we know it I mean you know even just changing -- the direct.
You know.
You know so if I I actually I think it's as specious argument.
Maybe we thank you.
Charles we thank you to you and from one Charles to another thing we'll see you back here tomorrow at 1130.
You were gonna have a great time at the convention we'll see you tonight in all the Fox News coverage as we talk about the Twitter -- you're gonna have fun with that I'll be there with you having fun.
Osce has special report tonight and the C 1 o'clock with Megyn Kelly and we'll be busy today.
And now.
As we like to do every day normally with the word from our friend Charles.
Ryan just has this aspect to him where when he says I am -- I am.
And he talks about thinking about -- the future while -- he stands on the field on that hill.
They you know always is completely authentic I mean one of the reasons is -- -- -- -- there's not a problem for him is because he looks a series speaks as it.
