And recognize that fellow Americans are in its path.
And just hope and pray that all our remain -- And no life -- lost.
And no property is slot so we should all be thankful for this great country.
And grateful for our first responders and all that keep us safe in this wonderful country.
I want to talk to you tonight.
Not about politics.
And not about party.
And well there are many important issues we'll hear discussed in this convention and throughout this campaign.
I want to talk to you from my -- About our hearts.
And talk not about what divides us but what holds us together is an American family.
I want to talk to you tonight about that one great thing that unites us.
That one great thing that brings us our greatest joy when times today.
And the deepest solace in our dark hours.
I want to talk to you about love.
I want to talk to you about the deep.
And abiding love I have for a man I met at a dance many years ago.
And the profound love I have.
And I know we share for this country.
I want to talk to about that love so deep only a -- contaminant.
The love we have for our children.
And our children's children.
And I want us to think tonight about the love we share.
To those Americans.
Who are going through difficult times.
Whose days are never easy nicer always lying -- -- work never seems done.
There you know minus tonight this hall they.
Are here in neighborhoods -- Tampa an all across America.
The parents who lie awake at night side by side wondering how they'll be able to pay the mortgage and make the rent.
The single man who's working extra hours tonight so that is kids can buy some new clothes to go back to school.
Can take a school trip -- sport.
So -- kids can feel you know just like other kids.
And working moms who love their jobs that would like to it just a little less to spend more time with the kids.
But this just out of the question with this economy.
How about that couple -- like to have another child but wonder how they'll afford it.
I have been all across this country and yeah letting you guys who can't look -- It.
And I have seen and heard stories of how hard it is to get ahead now.
You know my.
I've heard your voices they.
Said to me I'm running in place and we just can't get ahead.
Sometimes I think that late at night if we were all silence and -- just a few moments and listen carefully.
We can hear a collective sigh from the moms and dads across America who made it to another day and no -- don't make it to another one tomorrow.
But in the injured that day moment they just aren't sure how.
And if you listen carefully.
You'll hear the women's time -- a little bit more than the man.
It's how it is business.
It's the moms who have always had to work a little harder to make everything right.
It's the moms of this nation's single married widowed who really hold this country together.
We're the mothers we're in the lives.
Where the grandmothers with a big sisters -- the little sisters and we are the daughters.
You know it's true don't you.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- there's like -- my favorite fans down there.
And once they have to do a little bit more and you know what it's like to work a little harder during the day to earn the respect you deserve it work and then you come home at night and help with a book report.
Just because it has to be done.
You know what those late night phone calls of an elderly parent -- like in the -- we -- drives just to see how they're doing.
You know the -- into the local emergency room in which doctors actually answer the phone call when you call -- night by the way I know all about that.
You know what it's like to sit in the graduation ceremony and wonder how was -- -- lying dazed and the years that went by so quickly.
Are the best of America.
-- -- And I'm hopeful America.
There wouldn't be an America without you -- we salute you and sing your praises.
-- sure -- -- really understand this but I don't think there's a woman in America who really expects to like to be easy.
In our own ways we are no better you know what and that's fine we don't want easy.
But the last few years have been harder than they needed to be.
It's all the little things that -- the price at the pump you just can't believe the grocery bills to just get bigger all those things used to be freed.
Like school sports and now one more bill to -- It's all the little things the pilot to become big things in the big things the good jobs the chance to college -- at home you want to buy just get harder.
Everything has become harder.
Weird too Smart to know there aren't easy -- that we're not dumb enough to accept that there aren't better answers.
It's where this -- I I met at a high school dance comes in his name is Mitt Romney you should really get to know him.
I can tell you -- -- -- -- them he was tall laughed a lot he was nervous girls like bad it shows you guys a little intimidated.
Yeah it's nice to my parents but he was also really glad when they weren't around.
I don't mind that -- More than anything he made me laugh.
So you might not notice that I -- the granddaughter to Welsh coal -- He was determined.
He was determined that his kids get out of the minds my dad got his first job when he was six years old and a little village in Wales called Nancy helps them.
Cleaning bottles at the collier's arms.
When he was fifteen dad came to America in foreign country he saw hope and an opportunity to escape from poverty.
He moved to a small town in the great state of Michigan.
Then he started the business.
Money built by himself by the when he.
The -- You raise -- family -- became mayor of our town.
My -- but often remind my Brothers and me how fortunate we were to grow up in a place like America.
He wanted us to have every opportunity -- -- -- -- in this country and so we push just to be our best and give our -- Isn't -- houses that line the streets of our town -- a lot of good father's teaching their sons and daughters that same values.
I didn't know it at the time but what does DS was my future father in like George Romney.
Missed dad never graduated from college instead he became a carpenter he worked hard he became the head of the -- company and then the governor of Michigan.
When -- and I met and fell in love.
We are determined not to let anything stand in the way of our life together I was episcopalian he was a Mormon we were very young both still in college.
There -- many reasons to delay marriage and you know what we just didn't care.
We got married and moved into -- basement apartments.
We walk to class together shared the housekeeping -- a lot of Hostin tuna fish.
I just was a door cropped up thumbs up verses.
I dining room table with a -- down ironing board in the kitchen.
But those were the best days.
Then -- for sun came along.
All at once I'm 22 years old with a baby and husband who's going to business school and law school at the same time.
And I can tell you probably like every other girl who finds herself in a new life far from Stanley -- friends with the new baby and a new husband.
That it does not -- that I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into.
Well that was 42 years ago I survives.
We now have five sons and eighteen beautiful grandchildren.
Yeah look -- that boy I know the high school there and -- he still makes me laugh.
I read somewhere that -- not have a storybook marriage.
Well let me tell you something in the story -- I react.
There never were long long rainy winter afternoons in a house with five voice -- -- once.
And those story -- never seem to have a chapters called MS or breast cancer.
A storybook marriage nope not at all.
What Mitt Romney -- I had is a real marriage.
Season -- ideas he's Mormon -- impatient.
He is trying to live his life with a set of values centered on family faith and love of one's fellow man.
From the time -- were first married I've seen him spend countless hours helping others.
I've seen him drop everything to help a friend in trouble and then there when late night calls -- panic come from a member of our church whose child has been taken to hospital.
You may not agree with -- positions on issues or his politics.
By the way Massachusetts is only 13% Republican so it's not like as a shock to me.
-- Let me say this to every American who is thinking about who should be our next president's.
No one will work harder.
No one will care more.
And no one will move heaven -- like Mitt Romney.
-- make this country a better place to live.
It's true that miss the insects -- -- successful it each new challenge he's taken on.
You -- it actually amazes me to see his history of success being attacked.
Are those really the values that made our country great.
And as a mom of five boys do -- raise our children to be afraid of success.
-- -- Do we send our children out in the world with the advice.
Try to do okay.
And -- And let's be honest if -- last for years had been more successful do we really think there would be this attack and Mitt -- success.
-- Out of course -- May be the first to tell you that he's the most fortunate man in the world he had to loving parents who gave him strong values and taught and the value work.
He had a chance to get the education his father never had.
-- as his partner on this amazing journey.
I can tell you Mitt Romney was not handed success.
-- -- -- -- -- after graduate school and got a job.
I saw the line hours that started with that first job I was there when he -- a small group of friends talking about starting a new company.
I was -- when they struggled and wonder if the whole idea what just wasn't gonna work.
Was to work harder and -- -- Today that companies become another great American success story.
Hasn't made those who started the company successful and it's big and success will be on their dreams yes it has.
It allowed us to give our -- -- chance -- good educations and make all those long hours of book reports of homer with every minute.
It's given us the deep satisfaction of being able to help others in ways that we could never imagined.
This is important.
I want you to hear what I'm gonna say.
Mitt doesn't like to talk about how he's helped others because he sees -- as a privilege.
Not be political talking point.
We are no difference.
Than a millions of Americans who quietly.
Help their neighbors their churches and their communities they don't do it so that others will think more of them.
They do it because there is no greater joy.
Did and it should be given unto you.
But because this is America.
That's small company which grew his help so many others lead better lives the jobs that group and the risks they took to become college educations and first homes.
That's successes helped fund scholarships.
Pensions and retirement funds this is the genius of America.
Do we still filled tell others launched new dreams.
At every turn in his life this man I'm at not at a high school dance -- helps lift up others.
He did it with the Olympics when many wanted to give up.
He did in Massachusetts we got to the state from economic crisis to unemployment at just four point 7%.
Under -- Massachusetts -- schools for the best in the nation.
He's started something that I really love them.
He started the John and Abigail Adams scholarship which -- the top 25%.
Of high school graduates a four year tuition free scholarship.
Yes he's the man America needs.
This is the man who.
But the determination to solve the problems that others say can't be -- to -- others say is beyond repair.
This is a man who work harder than anyone so that we can work a little less hard.
I can't tell you what will happen over the next four years but I can only stand here tonight as a wife and a mother and a grandmother -- -- American.
And made you this solemn commitment.
This man will not fail.
Man and let us down.
This man will lift up America.
It has spent 47 years since that -- all kind of charming young man brought me home for -- her stance not every day since -- -- easy.
But he still makes me laugh.
And never once did I have a single reason to doubt that I was -- lucky Islam in the world tonight.
-- and tonight I wanted to talk to about love.
Look into your hearts.
This is our country.
This is our future.
These are our children.
You can trust net.
-- -- America.
He will take his to a better place justice he took me home safely from that dance.
Give him that chance.
God bless each and every one of you and god bless the United States of America.
