Mitt Romney has chosen Paul Ryan to be as vice presidential candidate.

Mr.

Ryan is new to the national scene.

Out of step views from a bygone era.

He's known as the author of the extreme GOP budget but at prosperity for the -- say it hurts the middle class.

And that bit of political mockery is a new video.

From president Obama's campaign welcoming.

Paul Ryan to his biggest moment.

That he has ever had in his political career tonight here in Tampa as he prepares to deliver his acceptance speech the Republican vice presidential nomination and this is power play and I am Chris firewall it's a big day here in Tampa the excitement last night from and Romney speech four these Republican delegates is palpable.

Certainly still but now Paul Ryan's moment.

Can he deliver candy stand and deliver tonight.

When he talks it's a pretty big deal we're gonna talk about that we're gonna recap and Romney speech from last night we're gonna look at the president's efforts with young voters we're gonna talk about some other cool stuff that we're doing.

But there is nothing cooler that we are going to do today than welcome back to power play.

Former New Hampshire governor.

It's -- White House chief of staff and number one Romney surrogate and all around honey badger.

John Sununu and welcome back governor it's good to be back thanks for let me join it will see if you feel that way after awhile but said here's the thing.

The attack now this is the third.

Installment of attack on running mate Ryan.

From the Obama campaign the first one was.

I'm very narrowly focused on Medicare.

The second one which was last week the beginning of last week and the week before that was extreme on social issues.

Now they're packaging it together they're saying he's just that that video that look like a movie tone newsreel that he's just a relic of the past.

For Paul Ryan he does kind of look like Eliot -- he does kind of have a throwback look about him is that isn't there a danger that Democrats will will finally succeed in defining him.

You know your analogy is even better than you may have thought about Eliot mess clean the mess in Chicago.

I.

I don't mean that -- -- why they think about it at Chicago.

So congratulations.

For being psychologically correct that's psychologically correct if that's I'll take whatever I can get.

So but Ryan -- these vulnerabilities I mean the Democrats are gonna keep pushing on them look.

The important thing for people to understand.

Is that there is no surprise.

And what the Democrats are doing right I refer everybody -- a wonderful article I think Ben Smith wrote it about a year ago today or maybe a year ago last week.

In Politico.

In which he interviewed the Obama campaign for what their strategy was and the title of the article is.

Kill Romney right and they talk in there about how they're gonna attack him on everything that is personal.

And and what they're doing to Paul Ryan is an extension of that because they knew as far back as a year ago this guy has nothing to run -- You know he may have started with Greek columns and fake smoke.

But but we have gone through four years of nothing else lots -- smoke and nothing else.

Now I also want to ask you about this Robert Gibbs doesn't like you.

Thank you I think that's what makes this thing had to instead -- of that security was being interviewed.

Last night on MSNBC.

He was.

It's called the Republican events last -- a strange night this angry convention.

Didn't understand that and when he would it was pointed out what you had said earlier in the evening about praising the evening -- what it was good.

He said that that if you were the focus group for the Republican national party.

Did that this party was.

Gonna lose.

Cook last night it was a great night and -- only and Romney Chris Christie two great speeches.

But you look at the lineup for the whole night.

Starting with may have -- level -- you talk you.

Ted Cruz.

The son of Cuban immigrants now the nominee.

For the senate in in Texas governor send -- out.

-- Mexican American.

Governor of Nevada.

Governor Haley Indian American governor of South Carolina a great woman who's done well down there.

-- you have -- to Davis who actually in nominated.

Governor President Obama in the 2008.

Look at that that eclectic if you will gathering and -- and the beautiful speeches that they put forward were all.

Forward looking they were talking about the American dream in one way -- the other now.

I do understand that for the Obama administration and the gives -- of the world.

When you talk about the American dream there's a connotation of negativity in their head because they don't understand it.

They have no idea.

With the American dream is all about and Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan of -- -- we explain.

To America what we seem to have forgotten in the -- disastrous years we've had out of the moment.

Strange now one cable network there's been a car -- awful about one cable network that did not show during their evening of coverage last night did not show any.

Speakers of color.

Did not show any minority speakers they -- of wait for each one think it was deliberate.

I'm not saying I'm I'm wondering if I'm wondering if you see any conspiracy and that's.

Look these guys have an agenda the liberal media has an agenda.

The MSNBC's.

Of the world have an agenda.

They there to protect this failed presidency by any means possible.

And and I think the list of speakers I ran off -- you didn't have a single white male in that.

And and so.

You didn't but Bob McDonnell is very white and he's definitely not -- and you know he kinda screwed the street Gupta yeah.

But the but the point it is a that and it did last night's speeches by a very diverse crowd is what this Republican Party is all about it was young.

A lot of females.

A lot of men and women of color.

A lot of Hispanic not only speakers but Hispanic success stories that within the party.

Governor Martinez a bit of New Mexico.

All of these folks understand.

That the opportunity party.

The party that will make a difference for those who have just come to America but those who haven't been given a -- to deal in the past and America is the Republican Party.

Now you've seen this happen I mean you have the advantage of course being from New Hampshire that you've gotten to meet everybody who's run for president for quite a while.

-- the first one I think was Lincoln and but the you've gotten a chance to meet all these folks -- you've seen -- there's the magic moment that occurs.

-- presidential or vice presidential person when it goes from being theoretical being real that moment for Paul Ryan happens tonight.

When he walked out he's been out of the -- he's been out talking to people interact with voters shirt sleeves rolled up.

Tonight's the night that he auditions for the part of the vice presidency.

Talk about that moment.

Yeah he's got to walk off the states and say holy.

This is real -- It's very -- up this crowd is going to receive them well.

This is a it -- Paul Ryan is a young star of the Republican Party he's a thinker.

What scares the Democrats about on what -- the other President Obama about a is that Paul Ryan is a thinker and it really -- -- them.

Because he's quantitative in his studies he knows what's wrong with the federal budget.

He knows you spend more than you taking -- you have problems.

Now you do have an administration that is squad quantitatively challenge this is still the president that at some -- thought we had 57 -- 58 states.

And a proud and this -- the crowd this is the crowd that last week was telling us.

That they created more jobs in the last 27 months than Ronald Reagan did in in the they created a four million plus jobs and -- -- seven months.

Ronald Reagan created seven million in the two years after -- fix the they caught -- failure and seventeen million.

In the eight years he was president.

Now this administration has trouble because they're not really sure that seven million is bigger than -- -- and therein is the problem America has today.

Governor last question how do you feel on the on the right side of the Internet.

Your nickname is the honey badger you are Mitt Romney's honey -- a how do you feel about -- sharing the man with this with this vicious animal from Africa how does this make you I don't gonna get even with previous someday pat pat pat pat pat -- okay let labeling me out but it's that it's a pretty cool badgers -- go though -- very little rather than the clip on the -- -- hilarious effect there you have -- Internet we give you.

It probably not a bad governor Johnson and we're we're very grateful that -- time for -- That is a little something we're going to do today for you because what you ought to now is that we're here in Hillsborough County Florida which.

Happens to be a swing county in a swing state this in Pinellas County next door and -- Saint Petersburg Tampa area.

Our the absolute battleground here on the -- work -- to work.

So we have been around while we've been here and we've talked to some voters to listen to them about what they want to hear from the candidates will be sharing some of them with you today and it let's get started with the first.

-- like to see a little more fire.

Noted below me look -- the ball a little more attacking the ball.

-- I think that late at night if we were all silent.

Picture just a few moments and listen carefully.

We could hear a collective -- from the moms and dads across America who made it through another day and -- -- make it through another one tomorrow.

But in the injured that day moment they just aren't sure how.

And that.

Was the wife of soon to be here I guess are -- Republican nominee Mitt Romney and Romney.

With what was pretty much the showstopper.

Of the evening here in Tampa at the Republican National Convention and this is power play and welcome back.

So do reviews Iran and we talked about it last night about what Twitter had to say huge and Romney's performance was huge and blew the doors off of everybody.

But does it last.

Is it significant can't be made to stick.

Let's talk about that so we should get Smart people together who know about Republican politics and who -- involved in that kind of stuff and they are all friends of yours so you should be very happy you know -- card on this he's chairman.

The American Conservative Union they host.

This party is only every four years but -- group -- every year the biggest gathering of conservatives.

In Washington DC eight it's -- -- is a big deal and Els group is at the center of that and you know Mary Katharine Ham who needs no introduction except I'll do it anyway and tell you that she's a Fox News contributor.

And that you are and how they -- now.

And you can see her funny and insightful video there you can also see her fight with Juan Williams on television sometimes and you know Alec Shriver.

Who is the the head.

Correct of the College Republican National Committee.

An -- the college students doing down here -- Ratings or are they are hell I would never -- -- reports doubtful but about what you're looking -- over that another part of Saturday that -- -- -- -- possible ideologues of the liability of him.

OK so here's -- We should.

Talk about that four chatters for the people watching out there.

There is.

Chris Christie didn't -- -- They -- in running so much better so here's my question.

Could anybody have succeeded in Chris Christie slot I'm not saying he did it.

A bad job but I'm saying that's pretty tough to follow speeds like Enron and Alex are with you.

Well there's no doubt about that -- -- -- -- actually could be I think it's been looked -- and at every convention.

Since 76 Assam -- get on the floor and that's been by far the best speech any potential First Lady said Eric Davis and and I think right.

Last night when -- -- sore right Divx actually what you -- I close my access that this is stuff have staying power and the answer was she simply could be a legacy speech.

In terms so the First Lady who never held public office before -- urban and public life before.

Given an incredible speech frankly touching all the key points you need to have talked help her husband.

All right Mary Catherine was was Chris Christie standing backstage and she's like crushing this long ball -- -- doing all the governors like oh great now I get to follow that I felt that because for all worried about -- something tells me he felt -- about that I also thought that his speech was very very good and I think the plan here was to go.

Spoonful of sugar helps them out right on down.

I think that's how it worked I think his speech was very statesman like and I think people.

Knew what to expect from proceeding no he's good.

-- -- and expect that he brings the heat and he didn't bring the heat exactly he would not only thoughtful I'd and I -- -- I think that was really nice I thought it was I've thought it was well done in sort of it's a little bit above the -- Erica I enjoy.

But I'm this is my scans that are making and yet it's -- -- in the well they have different boxes to check.

But I think in Romney gave incredible speech and people were not expecting that -- little bit of a hidden -- I've been in her room with her she really -- that she has it she has an X-Factor.

And I didn't know if it would.

It would work in that room -- a big Plaisted to take up and as soon as she hit that stage.

It rapt attention I mean it was just it is pretty.

-- okay what do you say so I actually greeted you're -- the same face and me out but I think you've seen articles for months now about and Romney sort of secret weapon power.

Right and I think last night we saw the Romney campaign in the convention take that what not a -- I was in the -- introduction to two people last -- our membership young hopeful look who's tweeting about it.

They're excited about a young women across this country are looking for a role model on the right what about Chris Christie.

Well look Chris Christie is known for sort of his brash outgoing personality last night each had a -- -- face with him.

I probably get a guy and -- -- good god instead of -- lesson is what was different.

-- -- you know we had Ted -- don't know podium -- divorced because with different roles.

And I think Governor Christie fill the -- that he had which was like like -- their guidance at this Google sure is nice to get out.

His role last night at the end of the night was to say what a great speech let's unite keynote speaker after after -- -- and Ronnie was the talk of town and and that's important.

-- is there a danger for in Romney who.

Was a child of privilege to some degree.

And maybe not to the degree -- husband was but -- for her talking about eaten tuna fish and well and macaroni in the basement apartment.

And those things is when you win somebody who is as wealthy as the Romney's are successful as the -- are.

Is there a danger in trying to say we're we're just like you.

There's I -- you -- it right she said since when in America.

Is reaching success through Europe slid over your own broad problem.

And this is a different America the other sites trying to -- I mean.

-- their biggest challenge we have this this whole class warfare deal and she faced it head on she said listen.

He's -- successful.

-- reap the fruits of his success and -- a -- shared quite a bit to it with others.

And we're not ashamed at what we're proud of it and we want every American -- succeed and then she went on and talked about the youth do you really want your children.

To be in the hall of mediocrity so to speak coming you won your children are we special and -- wanted to succeed.

And that's what my husband has done and -- went in the world and America do we look down on that kind of stuff and Jeff but you put it back in perspective.

Mary -- she talked about her husband's.

In a way that any man would be thrilled to I mean that they're not just that she loved him.

But the -- the deep respect and the when she said he will not fail you and he what did he say he about.

She got -- home for you got to her home from the day -- and you do you know do stuff for you.

Is there danger that with women and stuff like that that it sounds maybe two Temi whenever it.

I don't I don't think I think I had to -- it sounded like.

This man has been incredibly good to me in my family -- this is who he is the way he has lived his life the way they he has you know.

Provided in and turned us into an American success story.

Is a great story and when an Enron he's strength is that she.

Does always sound authentic so I don't think there is as much danger for her talking about a part of their biography that the rest of the media will selectively edit.

Which is a time when they.

Had some struggles of course she's had other health struggles which I think are are immensely relatable -- I.

But she always sounds like she's being the person she is and that person happens to be very likable and I think she's on safe ground talking about this kind of thing.

Alex let's say you on electability factor -- haven't talked about -- sort of the sense of humor aspects last night.

It's -- sad that she's relatable especially young women to the old dating advice treat your girlfriend how you want your daughter to be treated I think young women heard that story last night.

-- realize this is some -- I can relate to this is how somebody I could grow up to want to be like for all this debate about how young women are doing in the party and how the -- reaching it.

-- -- was incredibly important she mentioned that after the other speakers throughout the night some of the younger congressional candidates earlier today talked about it and that's good for our party and affirmative.

I will say I need dance line was not my favorite not that -- not super and I wish I had heard a few of those specific stories about big hearted -- -- we've read about right in the past and I I think that's.

A personal preference that he does he literally she said he doesn't like to talk about those things I think they're great stories but I don't think they're gonna come from that's easy one says.

Kristi was good but not as exciting as I thought he would be.

And that's the problem with the expectations game in politics happy happy I was great we have to continue to deliver and -- -- power play here every day because we've set the bar so high for so much raw political excellence.

Thank you three for helping us achieve that yet again happened to heed the Internet and I think that.

We're going to be back with more we have actually something that we have never tried before.

We're gonna have a mega panel with Brit Hume.

But my boss's boss so please behave.

And other people to talk about what happened in 1980 the last time that a convention was really consequential.

It's going to be great.

So stick around.

I think they should be talking about economy.

A good plan on how to fix it and now how to get -- make -- of that.

Loans whose cares have been our concern.

The work goes on the cause -- the hope still lives and the dream shall never die.

That was one the pivotal moments one of the most famous moments in modern political history that was when Ted Kennedy gave his concession speech.

At the 1980.

Democratic National Convention at Madison Square Garden.

Conceding to incumbent president Jimmy Carter.

And what he was talking about was that once it was clear that he wouldn't have the delegates to get over the top.

That he went and conceded to Carter and supported him but brought the house down with that speech.

And this is power flag coming to you from the Republican National Convention down here in Tampa.

And what.

Conventions are now are sort of like PowerPoint presentations for the country it's a way to take people through and talk about the visions that parties had because it's been a long time since anybody really fought it out on the floor of -- convention.

The last time that happened was 1980.

And I want you remember what was going on.

Jimmy Carter.

Was the incumbent present -- United States rather a moderate Democrat former governor of Georgia and Ted Kennedy led an insurgency from the left against Jimmy Carter.

Weakened him and made it possible.

Or enabled anyway Ronald Reagan in his effort to unseat the incumbent.

It was a pretty big deal if you're a political junkie like me and you probably are if you're watching this right now this was a pretty big deal.

So we realize that down here in Tampa we happen to have four different people.

Who were playing four different roles on that day when this happened now I'm gonna introduce you to these people as they are known today as their business card will tell you today.

And then they're gonna tell you what they were doing that -- -- you know Joseph Trippi who is to Fox News contributor he's a democratic strategist do you view Internet to help revolutionized politics -- Howard Dean campaign.

Is -- not true.

I -- yeah yeah -- helped OK go below magnet had that -- -- -- and and you know and you know Pat Caddell and he is a democratic strategist pollster.

He is a guy who you read his columns and the Wall Street Journal you agreement foxnews.com is also a campaign insider.

This on you and he enjoys that you know Brit Hume he is our senior political analyst he is one of the reasons I do what I do for a living.

And this is my compliment that he is the senior vice president for news.

At the Fox News Channel so again I want to emphasize is my boss's boss please conduct yourself accordingly Internet.

All right.

Now let's go back down the other way and start with you mr.

-- today.

What were you doing that day what was your job.

I was in the big -- With the anchors at the time and David Brinkley was.

-- Reynolds ABC news yes I was with ABC this is pre cable.

So right right very writer producer we had a giant Booth with the giant -- -- -- probably thirty people in there and I was helping to.

Keep those folks since the podium is behind them.

Up to speed on what was coming up from what was going and we're providing what they thought editorial editorial support editorial support mr.

-- you were receiving editorial support I was the floor -- I'm not convention -- yours so I had a while others had said some of the big microphone to -- that we all thought that they look kind of ridiculous.

If you're political correspondent.

You wanted to be have one of those things on and you wanted to be down on the floor and I was I was very excited about that and pat.

Well I would see a poll surgeons basically strategist Carter campaign we -- of this day trying to finish -- negotiations seeking Kennedy out.

He actually spoke about -- -- -- some wing talk about.

The my job was basically -- of that speech to go out and praised the speech.

So I was on the floor looking for people like -- you were spinning I was out there to spin how united we were what -- -- anti Reagan speech that water.

Desperately spinning and -- everywhere reader I was one of the floor managers for the Texas and Utah delegation for Kennedy.

In the fight against Carter who was pretty young at that time medicine might -- very early twenties -- remember beings stores REI it is people like -- human.

Other folks I'd seen on television mark -- comment about us it was pretty it was pretty pretty amazing thing to be on that okay so we've.

-- Kennedy still ended up about a third of the delegates.

But.

-- why -- started that what give us give us the -- of the day of the drama as we go into the well the big dollar little suspense of the convention was whether Kennedy would give full throated support enthusiastic support -- -- -- he was really gonna get it done.

Well there was no one knew -- and there was a when negotiations were going on between the two camps.

The men were not warm toward each other in any real way and and Kennedy positioning figure extemporaneously he was almost incoherent.

But.

But that's not the toughest through throughout -- career.

You know he said rumba you know amazing thing right -- formally re famous Kennedy is.

And but.

Rehearsed and written.

Speeches.

Delivered with a teleprompter he could be sensational.

And so.

What he was what he did that day and night and -- -- of which we just heard was.

This set piece speech he gave.

And it always ended with this amazing refrain about about you know the dream -- -- a dream will never die it was a dream will never die speech and democratic audiences heard.

I variation of that speech time and time again and I always brought the house down as he did on on.

And for you guys for the from the politicos.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- The Carter guys were on one side of the room drinking Coke because.

-- Atlanta Georgia -- okay Coca-Cola and and the -- in all the skinny guys were in their drinking Pepsi communion and literally ran into this and if you don't and it ended this day -- I kind of lean towards drinking Pepsi over and over a Coke -- is speaking got that kind of you kind of bitter -- internal on the on the floor it was.

Horrendous fight it is.

The animosities were so great I would have been Teddy Kennedy's -- -- -- senate races 76 wanted to Carter and it worked for him for awhile.

And that and in McGovern campaign which I've worked -- Also many of the Kennedy people were old friends a month.

I was on the looks you can't understand how much this was Boston vs Atlanta -- like the civil war -- visited.

Got to put some label.

And Michael what was it as you are seeing all of this stream of data come through -- you have to be feeding everybody in setting this up what was that what was the -- was there urgency was there vibe.

-- otherwise I mean it was down on the floor those guys are closer to it but.

You know on the phone with us in the Booth -- the people.

Under these guys I think who were trying to get us to say.

Kennedy can do it or there's not a chance -- -- is gonna do it well because at this at this point we're still in the moment grip was talking about where.

We don't know which way this is gonna go can Kennedy actually had -- delegate -- Joseph Trippi do his job well enough.

And pull this all right and you guys you know you get off the phone -- guy and it sounds pretty convincing and get off the quality -- -- guy.

Tell illicit columnist on the -- -- liberal renegotiated -- realize.

As we also negotiate through the press in of these different roles.

Had Koppel David Brinkley they're they're anchors journalists are trying to.

Present both sides of this and as a part that sort of if you see a fight and militant that's that's a good little story if there's that -- and contention and was a moment.

In the third or fourth tonight.

When senior -- Hamilton -- and.

Was sent to the Kennedy hotel to talk to the Kennedy people about how all this was -- this on the final and others in the play out bag man.

-- whether Kennedy would come little hall and they would have the famous hands clasped.

-- victory you -- gesture.

Which was unclear that that even that was going to be possible.

And we knew that he was there.

We were looking for him and he appeared on the floor.

And he appeared on the floor in the Florida delegation.

I was nearby and got to microphone with a big ABC flag on it in his face right.

Other correspondents -- immediately on the scene this was the interview of that moment that you wanted to -- My high school classmate Bruce matters -- son of the late senator George -- as the Florida.

Was part of the Florida delegates one of its leaders.

And he stood in the aisle and blocked by competitor.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- They couldn't get themselves.

So everybody takes this interview that I'm conducting its you know -- -- when he can hear.

I'm conducting this interview them and and a -- every camera.

Of every network had to take this -- -- all I guess -- that while they could see their microphones they could pick up the sound but they couldn't get their correspondents really that close.

So I had to -- -- ABC news producers were over the moon and suddenly my stock at least for a few minutes there.

-- Michael I wanna go back to something you mentioned which is -- talking about this story I mean.

People talk about media -- a lot.

But the one -- that I know exists that I am absolutely sure is that exists there is a bias for good compelling stories -- bias exists for drama and not I mean.

We remember and April of this year march of this year all the Republicans are going to a brokered convention at the -- Santorum will never give up and there was a lot of wishful thinking I think in people's mind.

It's -- well it's true I think.

I do remember frank saying Frank Reynolds that.

He didn't think Kennedy had much of a chance to pick I think he he knew that logically.

But you know we're all they are in the room -- and are going to be watching in this.

You know do you wanna hear some somebody just sort of speaking like this I mean it was they were great to hear -- right they were written but they were.

They were great to hear and it was a little hey this is.

It's it is television after all it's television -- people like to -- -- look at this thing is there were these.

Kind of ridiculous.

Test votes that happened throughout I mean from the very first day I mean we're we're Kennedy kept we kept prodding and trying to figure out if we could -- delegates off in this.

How close is where you at any point how close were there we we were caught -- -- quite like there was this from.

We keep all these different rules votes -- it but it won't let me point isn't that it was it there was there was real tension about those boats really didn't matter if no one knew for sure could can be -- some of those women -- or some news out of Kuwait.

So there -- uncertainty and then you have all the way through the uncertainty of -- Kennedy and Carter.

Come together and -- -- that moment never really did ever any nation in a lot of cloudy warm.

But -- they barely ever they got kind of a moment of this awkward and class gesture.

But it was it was clearly not clearly not off the bus and take into this -- -- of meaning meaning people in the Democratic Party who believe it was actually been -- and in the Kennedy camps.

Not not doing the right training and in and not at night joining with Carter the cost him the presidents Reagan and it's true or not whether he would have had.

And I'm curious reading anyway since then parties learned their lesson what they they have contrived and -- range systems in those days the way the people got to these conventions or by being the by being committee met in their states and it was a much less open an egalitarian process and.

Well over the -- -- deleterious solidly democratic rules have been -- biggest rule challenge to Joseph was talking battle.

What's the delegates were back.

But there by the result -- robot to robot rule the big Ed Ben Williams -- proposed this idea that we should on by the delegates the Kennedy people sent that was going to be the test.

This is the boat after which.

That -- we won almost can be one that was what could we held everybody but don't think she -- -- -- -- it would it would be can it all the primaries is the problem.

This being Italy the problem itself the -- because they have big but but look at the end when Kennedy spoke it's important and what this was about it was about an economic.

Playing that we were opposed him because we -- -- all of your point.

And he carried today show big I picked up the phone and said -- all of this group's gonna give it to them because that whole -- out of control program we were gonna get.

Slaughtered in the press I think it was easier to to control method.

-- these guys because right there were only three networks.

Right on the -- and there were some great papers but there was no blogging and there's look at the there was no.

Nothing fake TV and I are we prefer Internet television but yes -- if you are right parties learned their lesson.

No -- divided to bits of conventions.

The because it would go to the people believe that was the undoing what we -- -- -- not true we had gone ahead -- rove because there's just doesn't sit between.

Ford Reagan had it been had been their -- their last two conventions where.

Both really mattered what went you know whether they didn't matter not because we need people to go let us vote actually -- let us have missed him do what mr.

Kim does best and tell -- didn't mean any thing does it mean anything today.

What what happened then yeah.

Yeah that's OK OK -- it.

Good stores through many are available yet I tell a story yes we -- certainly.

I had a that was a great moment and I got better than I was.

But younger than.

Very excited about it but.

Later on that evening.

Thing was over we're still hanging out on the air all of actions over.

I went over and did it in an interview with a guy and all those giant foam cowboy -- some familiar and it was and he was promoting some local issue -- local candidate.

And I did -- did an interview with a -- him and his hat.

I and I cannot acted to comparatively seriously if you would cause he was seeking to promote -- -- and all of this with a hat and everything.

And -- guys Brinkley and Reynolds in the anchor Booth thought it was great they were should -- given yakking it up in my time and money here you know they'll do an interview that they thought it was funny and it.

At the end of it Frank -- sisters of the camera cases.

You know I'd like to see you wanted to taxable and be edited for a fleeting moment I thought to ask the guys to -- to me -- -- and included on.

Had I done that.

I doubt I'd be sitting it.

I thought you would happen and if there's usually drag -- old replace -- -- -- on the power play so that's good instinct told me you know.

-- not gonna do that with us and I didn't and thank god this is what this is -- very proud to call Brit -- a mentor because one of the things that we know it's no headgear.

But they wanted to put anything on your head and don't put anything other than -- -- is as a model like a model plane don't pick it up touch it point to it don't pick it up because.

If you if you do that people -- he's really -- ask.

Well let me tell you what the -- say that they say they're loving the ghosts of Christmas political past.

And having a lot of fun -- that.

We're still here the king of rock -- that right around there doesn't -- that's the Internet but yes.

Baghdad.

We have some folks say they should have thought what Michelle Bachmann and other Michelle Bachmann should have never dividend and fought all the way to the convention.

But the wise this is.

Joey EB says Chris has a great -- today.

And he's right.

You guys are great thank you so much for making time this is a lot of fun for us -- both thank and it's good.

We're gonna take a quick break but when we come back there is more raw political excellence waiting for you on the other side in this one hour long our -- I will do that when we come back.

And will also before we go you get to hear another voter from here in Hillsborough County which you'll enjoy so stick around.

I think I would like to hear more and what -- they really gonna have put into.

Found the schools more programs more paid for the teachers some more funding for the schools is really way.

What I am looking -- he in this election.

This coming debt crisis is the most.

Ever -- in this country.

And look what's happened.

This is why were acting this is why we're leading this is why we're proposing and passing out of the house budget.

Fix this problem.

-- save our country.

For ourselves and for our children.

And that was not a trailer for a movie about a meteor about to crash into the earth.

That was actually how to Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan.

And he did it with that or movie music and this very very stern look in his eye.

And certainly Paul Ryan is known as -- budget talk and certainly is known as a serious man.

-- doesn't exactly look like a warm and by the character right there and -- -- power play welcome back we're here in Tampa for the Republican National Convention.

And tonight is Paul Ryan's biggest night of his career he's gonna step out on that stage.

And from that moment on he'll be judged by a whole new standard.

And it's a pretty big deal.

So.

Welcome David for -- so from the Washington exam probably this is your maiden voyage on power play I -- so yeah okay that's good well -- Sorry about the rest of your career from here on -- and bring me that -- so much better right -- and and Charlie hurt who's got nothing left to lose sight it is is back with us because made him look better to make even better and because you delight the Internet.

Exactly and so here's the question guys.

Let's first let's let's look at some pictures of the Ryan -- -- while we're talking about this.

He's his wife Jana.

She's attractive their children are cute they're young.

Paul Ryan though the image that he has primarily put forward in the past is his doctor austerity.

Have they package this wrong do they need to do something different tonight David let's start with you.

Wolf first of all there's a good piece in the Washington Post today about how Republicans here and competing newspaper opinion that's why you're the guys are competitors I've got about how checking brutality was has been out -- Republicans and actually done a very good job selling -- -- so far and you know -- there was the early opportunity to define him where I think the Democrats really failed to do it leading up to the convention it's possible they'll be able to afterward.

On I do think that there is too much association of -- with the idea of austerity.

And then Republicans are gonna have to you morning counter that mean and we had Ryan in in many kids just have for an -- board.

And means editorial board yet since he is the editorial page editor heat from time to time people come -- to discuss issues that they get a sense of them.

And right that yes and you know we had Ryan in there and the -- he frames it is they.

But we have a choice between European austerity in the future.

And it changing things now so that we don't have to go there and I think.

The idea and a lot of -- people very sympathetic to Ryan talk about him and use the word austerity that's not the word they want associated with their got.

Nobody wants austerity which you want.

Is she make small cuts announced that and he's not -- so much cuts has just put yourself one of sustainable trajectory.

So that in the future you don't have to -- draconian cuts like the ones that have Greeks rioting and looting and burning thing.

All right Charlie hurt maybe you'll answer my question people like children.

Yeah yes and and happy couples -- -- thing yeah that they -- to be clear yes.

Absolutely and I think that and I think about what would like you for example I should point that no one would like Charlie it was not for his wife and children how are you I would have no I would I.

I don't favor -- -- -- in -- put it.

But I think it's I think it's Paul Ryan is that we consider it is a -- And even Mitt Romney is kind of a nerd sort of geeky.

I think all of these things -- to actually grew just fine I think in fact I think that Republicans are happy with us.

And if you look at if you this and a lot of the speeches and -- not been primetime -- but all the other speeches.

Yesterday.

There was this whole theme of sizzle vs substance.

Real vs unreal and and they keep going back to this whole idea of Obama President Obama as a rock star who didn't deliver.

And I think that so I think -- you know and well and with and -- -- -- you know it wasn't perfectly I thought it was a spectacular speech it was not perfectly polished.

It was not yelled at them yet totally -- but it but but but part of what -- it was so.

-- it would part of the reason she killed it is because it was so authentic and it was and it was corny at times and he said things that.

You know we would you know we would think she points she gets to a point in which is a very big as she does it and then political people are always -- he can't.

Point he figures you Clinton you do the Clinton right you can't point and she was pointing in which he defended her husband she said.

You know he is a good man anyway it was -- it was very -- but but what I think maybe it was the fact that it was so genuine.

And I think that and I think that Paul Ryan with his -- doing -- with his numbers with that with the probably off script stop it it.

It's I think it's all that washes away if people.

Connect with him on sort of you know a genuine that is being genuine because I think that that's where President Obama lost a lot of those -- people.

-- this being your first visit we should have warned you and advance we only traffic and cynical cynical politics here either this is we have no interest in policy we just want to know who's gonna win elections pop.

And that sort of our deal.

So would would give you another bite at the apple.

How do the Republicans.

Package Paul Ryan in a way that does not make him sound like the doctor doom of the cutting right -- is that mainly working to that.

Wolf I I think you've almost answered the question are anyone's Stanley humanize is and you feel differently about people when you learn that no you know he's got three kids in -- As far as the the public persona and the idea I think that Ryan.

Talks about this the right way he talks about prosperity is the goal here not austerity.

But yeah I mean people think of trying to think of austerity is how does he change that pieces and this is a good way to start I'd buy premium out there with the spam and look this -- -- -- guy wants to throw you out in the street to die.

This is somebody.

Who and you know is not a scenario about the treaty he he wants his kids to have a future she's pretty young he wants himself to have a future thirty years from now where we gonna be when he's.

You know it's semi retirement right where it it it's it's a legitimate question then.

I think people.

I'm interest and by how well he plays with seniors in Florida and is -- polls indicate well so far out and -- I'm I'm interested by that not necessarily completely surprised his plan exempts them all that.

But I'm interest and I have to think of my grandmother.

God rest her soul saying something like oh that I like I really like that young man that Paul Ryan.

He he has that kind of appeal it has that kind of charm people think he knows -- is talking about.

Earlier you get the last word -- what's he get what's he gonna do tonight.

I think he's going to have by all accounts I hear that he is it's a sharp speech.

He has worked very hard on it.

They are very they sound very happy about it I think that he will.

Do some attack dog he needs to do some attack dog.

-- without going -- far that he loses that sort of nice boy charm.

But but I think it that he needs that he needs to pick up a little Chris Christie in his in his campaigns are looking.

Like a why I'm around are not like a German shepherd something like that.

Com I'm hearing these lists are these just sucking up to Dana Perino that's right I.

I know how -- -- guys I know how he does -- gentlemen we thank you very much good time together yesterday.

Okay good news Juan Williams is here and we'll talk to you about things you'll enjoy it.

We also have another.

Interview with the voter here in Hillsborough County.

And you'll hear from her after the I stopped talking.

See you should stick around so here's Amy -- Definitely the economy unemployment just -- helping everybody get back on their feet.

I'm winning you -- to get your friends and your classmates.

And your neighbors to -- as well because this is very important.

Just over two months from now seventy days.

For the first dog and many of your lives.

You'll get to pick -- president.

-- That the -- that is.

You -- more at stake in this election than anybody.

What -- -- -- -- voting group the choice you make in that instance we'll -- it.

This country.

The world your lives for decades to come.

And I know that's -- -- maybe I didn't -- on and on -- Tuesday afternoon.

But but it's true.

And that was heavy dude that was President Obama as part of a coast to coast swing state tour of college campuses he was there at Fort Collins, Colorado.

I he'll be in Virginia talking to college students today he started his swing.

In Iowa and what the president trying to do is.

It back a little of that old magic a little something good when the young voters.

Not only -- they go vote for him but they went -- until the parents that the parent to be totally uncool if they did not.

Probably even more important than what he got out of young voters.

And this is power play welcome back while the Republicans are rallying down here Democrats are going coast to coast.

Watching the president with him big crowds thirteen thousand estimated crowd for him there at Fort Collins pretty big deal.

One Williams who you read the hill and you enjoy there who is excellent you read him off but foxnews.com thank you.

-- Well I'm -- I'm coming into so at let's forget that's good.

And you are Fox News political analyst you were pretty big deal.

And the president is -- they're trying to make this happen again.

Worth the effort is -- a good thing for him to be doing just look at the numbers here we are -- this -- the power equation.

Level of enthusiasm.

Among Democrats right now is nowhere near what it is among Republicans and especially if you're talking about young people.

So he's got to make sure those young people don't think well.

It's not.

Rock star Barack Obama of 08 it's not new and dear friend I'm just voting for the some of the same old thing even if they need approval until you know just thinking he's okay.

They have to get out and vote they have to be energized and that's why I think it is an important move politically as a power play for him to try to read the base and.

I see that okay I guess.

This being an interactive show we should in Iraq.

Hey let's they would like to talk to -- reviewers liked to to argue about what you said last night about in Romney being a corporate wife.

Now I guess.

For my point of view.

I was not.

I didn't find it remarkable at the moment that you said it.

Being as it was true.

And that my mom was that to -- Dead -- executive and she was his wife and there and I didn't think it was a bad thing -- But did you mean it is a bad thing was that big question is was it a code for.

Something.

That that you were trying to say that she was submissive or subservient -- -- again or is it -- regular fitness today -- it.

-- code word.

While great I have to I don't know where to begin on that when misogynist because we're known -- up this was about.

Again this is power play so let's just talk politics respect that's all we do.

That's speech.

Was intended to reach out to women because of a deficit the Romney campaign has -- woman in particular single -- but even if among married women right now there's a split and Romney has I think it's like two or three point right among married -- right and and Republicans always lose a single women.

And Democrats always lose with -- went -- at the way guys.

So.

The speech was intended to say.

Two women mean Mitt Romney is a compassionate caring person don't.

-- for all put Obama bashing.

All it adds about Mitt Romney being this uncaring business that's what the speech should have been.

And from my perspective -- local analyst -- on the economics of it when they're talking about struggles.

And things like you know we started in the small apartment with two kids -- that game.

I don't this doesn't thought persuasive to me because I know that there wealthy people I know that even when they were in that little apartment.

His -- his father with the governor of Michigan a wealthy man and her father was wealthy people and that her husband Mitt Romney at that time was about to get.

Law and business degrees from Harvard.

-- since they've had the envelope that's for it is it is and the average America it is a little bit in the north of America's my suggestion would have been say I'm blessed.

My -- -- so wonderful and I understand that and I know I don't think you should and anybody should worry about it because.

We are so generous and we care for other people and we've done things to help other people and we want to help this country that's that would have been minus here's what -- -- says you do not think his arm for our arguably our most loyal viewer and a chatter.

-- -- -- Until you have raised five kids battled MS and survived breast cancer yourself.

Keep your uninformed comments for yourself I think that -- -- what's the -- -- to say I don't but to answer yes that's accurate picture that's actually that's one.

And I've raised three kids three kids you can work.

And I have had dinner with Iran -- you think they're nice people but if you're gonna tell me that there economic circumstances the same as the average American and believe me I feel blessed in terms of Mike announcer but I mean I just don't think that's.

The way to argue mean the way to make the case to the American people especially American woman was to say.

My husband does so much for people and his understands what people have to go through.

And the fact that we're blessed just makes us wish that others were -- -- -- and you didn't mean that is an and so when you over corporate life.

Not at all as you -- I don't.

-- very got -- wouldn't have the thoughts like in exactly even say I was an intent because I didn't I was at there was no cola they are just that she looked like -- when you present.

And she was saying the right things about her husband and she would you would present her at a cocktail parties -- a corporate one.

You are an Internet you've had your answer I hope you're satisfied now one we appreciate you doing that now innocently -- talk about that certainly because I enjoy talking about this.

At 4 o'clock today do you know what you're doing you know what type of schedule of 4 o'clock today.

-- though he does not and I get to this is the reveal.

At 4 o'clock today you -- joining me and Steve case is over at Google and their cool -- boost whole I didn't know they yeah.

And we're gonna do a Google -- And some of you some of our long term most loyal viewers are going to be joining the conversation over there and I'll get to finally see you you get they get to see us every day right.

But will get to see you you'll get to be part of the conversation it will be great fun and if you -- -- get down with that.

You can go to YouTube a great way to watch.

We've already picked the participants but if you wanna go and watch.

You can go to YouTube and search for Fox News you'll find our page you can watch it happen there 4 o'clock eastern it'll be great what are you gonna tell them when you've -- let.

You know -- this -- -- -- this is gonna be like power play except it's going to be for Google it's can -- with.

That's a strong way to put it but -- -- -- have Juan Williams.

And crystal and -- -- and writes thought that it'll be like powerful little bit yeah but it will be nuclear.

We'll see you there -- -- -- -- think yeah we'll see you there and we'll see you there we've got to go away but will be back tomorrow with another hour long edition of awesome that's for you.

And it'll be great and now as we like to do every day we want to leave you with the word from our friend Charles.

There are two -- -- Obama attack.

On Romney's character the first is that he doesn't care.

And then the second targeted he doesn't care because he headed to DC.

He's not one of us he doesn't understand that conflicts and the difficulties of lord.
