On this let's talk -- Larry 70 he's director of the center for politics at the University of Virginia and the guy with a crystal ball let's look backwards though a bit Larry you have seen a lot of speeches by presumptive vice presidential candidates how -- this -- stack up.
A star was -- -- -- half of America knew who Paul Ryan was -- -- half of America didn't.
And for those who were watching and those who saw even a piece of the speech I think they were pretty impressed with what they saw.
So that was that was good news for the ticket and it did set things up nicely for Mitt Romney this evening if he can deliver.
Democrats.
When his name was first announced Democrats sort of set -- We're gonna win Florida now because seniors are concerned about Medicare and Paul Ryan wants to change Medicare.
He gave a pretty good defense last night in -- Yes it and they're gonna have to continue to do that because remember historically John the Medicare issue comes up.
In the last couple weeks of the campaign could be a stealth issue conducted by mail and telephone Internet.
So this is not something the Republicans can think.
Is over all week taking care that now we've neutralize the issued no.
It's something that you have to keep your eye on all the way to November 6 part of the -- traditional job of the vice presidential nominee is to go after the sitting administration the other party.
Did he do that.
Oh absolutely did I think one of those lines will.
Will resonate will be around for a long time maybe it's because I'm a college professor but the idea of college students in their twenties having graduated.
Staying in the rooms they grew up -- up and looking at the fading.
Obama posters presumably from 2008 that got a good laugh -- the convention hall and a lot of applause and it was repeated widely I think it will continue to be.
Before the math and the momentum overwhelm us all we are going to solve this nation's.
Economic problems that's a pretty big promise and it it carries a tinge of a negative tone but -- seem to deliver with a lot of hope and optimism.
Well sure and and look how is this ticket going to be elected John.
It's going to be elected not because people decide they want to go out and have a beer with them although they might actually Mitt Romney doesn't drink so maybe they -- It's not gonna be on a personal level it's going to be because the ticket is hired to be a mr.
fix it on the economy.
That's the key.
If it's perfectly okay to explain yourself until your background and make yourself more likable but in the end people have got to know you can fix the central problem around which this election is being conducted.
And help the economy and so looking and that's -- -- has to do tonight.
That's the that's the key for me I think to many of us are pretending as though we're members of the American association of psychologists.
You know that's nice but Mitt Romney has to be who he is.
And who he is is someone who has worked with the economy all his life.
Worked with the business sector roles like he has a credible case to me that he can fix the economy to me that's the most important thing he can do -- We'll be watching as I said earlier -- -- the director of the center for politics at the University of Virginia thanks.
