Fox lifestyle and -- how about fun travel how about an adventure Mark Murphy knows all about it.
You might want to add some of these locations to your bucket list -- mark thanks for joining us.
I -- I'm.
-- here Philadelphia nice hot day in Philadelphia kind of remind -- over the southeast Asia.
Yeah I was gonna say places Philadelphia is not one of the exotic locations I'm talking about -- not that there's anything wrong with that.
Listen I want to see what would be elephants in Thailand can you tell me how to do that.
Yeah you know what you did you get up into an area called -- -- has different areas of the mountains Thailand.
And the thing about some of the elephants is in Thailand elephants -- revered -- mystical -- part of the culture of Thailand and since many that needs to be.
A war machines in the early days and then workers after they were placed an automation they went into.
Private ownership and a lot of those people couldn't take -- opens properly so they've been rescued.
And I didn't go to places like on -- our resort where you can do a full day to day interaction.
Becoming a mongoose which is a trainer of the elephants and went -- and what I ended up doing was.
Meeting my elephant bonding with my -- spending a day without all of that and at the end of the day ended up down in the river with that elephant all of his buddies.
And just.
-- out in the water and slamming it and wanted to make sure I didn't become fish food because of one of those big elephant rolled over on there.
It would be such.
I didn't even know elephants swim today just sort of like they love the way love the water will that that part I knew.
-- behind festival which was the first one on your list in Taiwan.
I'm not -- fan and they scare me but that's not what this is about it says firearm in uniform and motorcycle helmet required what is that know about.
Well no doubt this was bizarre to say -- -- that during Chinese New Year in Taiwan they do this thing called the BI festival.
As about two hours south of Taipei we took the bullet train down from Taipei we have this little village.
And they said okay we're gonna have you participate and I said sure I'll do I'll do anything once.
So what I did was -- put -- hey Al fireman uniforms a motorcycle helmets stood in a circle with a bunch of other another 150 idiots like myself.
And then they surrounded us with with these club courts that fired.
Hundreds of thousands of bottle rockets at us and they exploded all over us all around us my cameraman -- -- really there to shoot video.
He retreated to a safe spot to shoot video but it turned out it wasn't too safe.
He ended up getting a rocket that penetrated the netting that they had protect of there to protect the media people.
And it came through hitting him in the -- bounced off -- -- in exploded in front of his face and dropped into the ground.
So after we got into medical help we realized that he didn't -- I I said it wasn't that big -- deal he's a camera guy just asked looks through the viewfinder anyway -- we need one sided view that.
So -- didn't think that was too funny but I thought it was funny in a pretty extreme thing to do on vacation.
I did aliens are not right now wiping that went off Willis is he okay that's why don't the one -- camera I was.
Yeah he's climbed one night I called QQ -- Q and when I cameraman.
-- he's -- loses a tough crowd.
I'm gonna pass that -- but the safari again you're into the elephants clearly you have made friends.
-- African safari everybody says this once in your life you have to do with safari but.
If it costs a 100000 dollars to go on one of these trips to do it the right way.
You can spend as much as you wanna spend it -- it a private Jad I mean you go crazy but at the end of the day if you want to experience a safari it's definitely within reach of most people want a safer I.
Life changing event.
One of those life changing events you might think that zebras are pretty common not a big deal you've seen in the Philadelphia zoo in the Bronx -- and all these other places.
But when you see a zebra.
For a herd of zebras in the wild.
It -- it's it's a life changing thing you see -- you've seen in his kids gone up.
Life changing we ended up in the middle of a herd of elephants as -- -- elephants over the years but in the middle -- herd of elephants.
We were filming this -- 4045 elephants walking from one quarter place to another.
And suddenly we found ourselves between the mother elephant and the baby elephant.
And that's when things got a little strange because that mother -- started shaking her head like yes I started coming -- us.
And luckily we got the deep in here and got out of the way because that elephant could literally took -- people over.
And stomp you to -- And get in the way they're baby you gonna do just that we're getting out where my baby I do that to watch out mother and I cannot get.
What do -- -- -- Joe The Plumber do they really just a bit.
I didn't have that experience so I can't speak separately they do I see I've seen that in the zoos so our Reagan that day.
Yet they -- kind of left -- -- we left them alone we just observe from a respectful distance.
And I'll tell you -- -- -- -- -- private game reserve on the east coast of Africa.
In South Africa.
And it was a neat place where they've reclaim a lot of the animals that were lost.
During colonials nation and the reclaiming them and bringing them back to the populations.
It's -- neat.
It's a neat endeavor and diets -- need a -- way to introduce camel's back -- -- would have been for that.
Decades -- I think anything we can do to preserve them in their natural habitat is great it's awesome to observe.
The other one I wanted to ask you about before you -- is the zip flying.
Situation because I I loved flying and I love heights and I love I have a need for speed so what's that all about.
OK so back up in the jungles of Thailand an area called -- -- we went out with.
Company called flight the givens and they have three -- miles as it winds through the jungles.
By northern Thailand -- exotic destination and here flying off these.
Dax.
Ripping through the treetops and some of them put -- a few hundred feet above the floor -- I enjoy as much as anybody but the thing that.
They like to do is here with this -- -- can mess with you a little bit -- we're filming while we're there and halfway down at the highest point.
They set it up so -- stop me in the middle and then just start bounce in the line up and down and then you start having these thoughts like -- this.
-- really tight is it really safe for my going to be OK I might end up.
Down there on the bottom.
Of this this jungle.
But it was spectacular and a wonderful way to see the natural beauty of Thailand.
And so that I'd recommend most people put on the bucket -- and do it even if they're afraid of heights on like you know.
Well I think that most people put on their bucket -- I'm not sure how many people get as many opportunities as you have those lines looked a little -- to me to be honest with you.
-- but I'm sure these companies are like licensed insured whatever book guy I would tell people to go to your web site.
Which is Mark -- travels dot com.
Yeah and you do that Mark Murphy travels and they can also see my new book travel unscripted which I write about a lot of these adventures and there.
All right we're gonna try to live vicariously until we can get to all these places it's great to meet you mark what's your next trip by the way.
My next trip is I'm going out to Los Angeles Chicago not too exciting but -- -- off the Hong Kong in the middle of September for a couple of weeks I myself.
I great food in Hong Kong absolutely.
Jockeys and wraps it.
I'll stop the stop.
But I have I have a three -- got -- they always say that she would be a great meal over there but.
In any event nice to meet you safe travels.
Don't do anything too crazy -- I'll try not to associate -- can --
