If you watched any of the media coverage of the Republican Convention you heard a lot of folks saying this that.
Mr.
Romney has to connect with regular Americans and show he's really in touch with them.
The last night he told us Americans deserve the hope and change that President Obama promised for years ago.
-- -- because during these years you worked harder than ever before.
You deserved it because when it costs more to fill up your car you could I'm -- moving lights.
And put in longer hours.
Are when you lost that job that -- plaintiff fifty an hour the benefits you took two jobs at nine bucks an hour.
You deserve it because your family depended on youth and -- -- -- because you're an American.
And you don't quit he did it because it was what you had to do.
So what's been the reaction are the media fair and balanced in their coverage of this convention and his big speech.
Let's talk about -- Judith Miller up Pulitzer Prize winning reporter and author.
Also Cal Thomas a syndicated columnist both are Fox News contributors you were actually at the convention -- they're always all right so give us your take first mall on the coverage you read verses the convention you attended -- the media I think actually did Mitt Romney -- favor.
Day's -- set the bar very low.
And whether it's in sports or in politics.
If you set the -- low and have low expectations of the guy exceeds them.
Then the story becomes while he was really great and that's what a lot of the other story is today interests against them you're suggesting that they didn't want him to succeed or they didn't think he could well no -- -- look I've my favorites are seen in this -- I walked into the New York Times.
-- just so I could see with the other side was doing -- it was a big -- and they're taken from the Media Research Center.
Big letters -- don't believe the liberal media.
Now if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Then mockery I think probably tells the truth about the New York Times up all the conversations we saw with the Yahoo! guy when some of the stuff gets out.
That they really hate Republicans.
They don't want from elected and -- the coverage or at least in the mainstream media mostly reflected that I think you have for our viewers -- May not know the of the political director for Yahoo! News -- -- they were in collaboration with ABC for some of the Internet coverage.
Was overheard on a live Mike saying.
Republicans are happy to part -- while black people are drowning returning.
To the hurricane hitting New Orleans right -- years.
You didn't have -- got fired for -- You did have the hurricane kind of vying with the Republican National Convention from the lead story here you had splits the screen coverage almost however -- look most people think.
As -- so has given how low the bar was it governor Romney did pretty well I mean you know the problem -- -- There is no they feared there it was uplifting it was it was the Republican version.
Of the hope and change speech it was you know all kind of mood and no -- -- and I -- that can only be.
Absolutely deliberate knows neither side is really giving a lot of you know you haven't heard much from President Obama about what he plans to do if he wins a second term right well not so -- I haven't had their moment yet let's see if a hurricane interrupts their party.
But you don't want to really struck me about watching Romney.
Was that.
Yeah you know when Michael Goodwin of the New York Post said he did it he really did -- she became human.
Even president tell -- tell you about how -- -- really uphill.
Battle governor Romney has to.
Ingratiate himself with the American people in his present day the Wall Street Journal -- talking about the rest of may.
But it's the man that the people have are being asked to vote for -- Right because that -- President Obama is is absolutely a master at at speaking and and getting up in front of a camera and just.
Making you go gaga right I was trying to explain this to a to the BBC I did an interview right after the Tampa convention.
And the the guys who what why are you American so fixated on family and god bless America and children up on the stage I think because we live -- the reality card debt is she an age where everything is superficial.
That's how Barack Obama really won the election not on substance but on form.
Well I -- a Taylor John.
My favorite moment of the convention was last night where and a when Clint Eastwood gets up there and in his dirty Harry voice -- doses of these -- I wanted to that's the most powerful gun in the history I mean that was that was unscripted no teleprompter that's what made -- so attractive I think.
That's it I mean this is a show.
And -- can ask whether or not we really have to spend all of this money right and send 151000 reporters down there to cover show but if you're gonna put a shell out of play then -- and Clint Eastwood because.
One man's kind of squint is another is cringe but it really worked -- it was unscripted and it was one of the few moments that lives.
It's that you had some thoughts about the -- NBC.
Covered this in particular well you know it's just so obvious the bias is now so obvious.
When you have one commentator after another from Tom Brokaw.
To Chris Matthews talking about.
Very dark.
And as you know how it I think Chris Matthews actually said -- -- -- -- speech referring to governor Romney.
I really didn't detect fat.
Hey at least it's just them but this is not it's leaning forward it's leaking left toward -- And if that's what people want bill didn't -- they'll change the -- And the big media set a standard for Republicans that they abandoned when it comes to Democrats.
So -- got the line including a headline of the Los Angeles Times.
At a cartoon to -- -- all along -- about how this is mostly don't quite Republican Party but that when they have Hispanics Hispanic women African Americans featured.
Then the media say all will -- just they're different they're tokens -- there pandering to this ethnic group.
Which -- is it Ruth Marcus had a piece exactly -- these things.
In today's Washington Post so if -- republic he can't win if you feature women if you feature is FedEx then they're all you know they're not -- -- She -- -- -- but when the camera pans to that audience and it's all kind of lot rather older than the country and wider than the country -- you have to water what people who are not -- and lighter are asking myself these keeping them from running and they can run for it to be a delegate and I'm you know I'm awful I.
Jack Kemp used to talk about this he.
I remember the Republican Convention in New Orleans he had more African Americans that is.
Pre convention party than they had the entire floor you're right all right that's a taste of what we cover on news watch will have got to have -- sample for tomorrow afternoon our panelists covering the coverage of the week's big stories catch it.
At 2:30 eastern time to.
