Though much of the presidential campaign has focused on the economy foreign policy concerns the military are no less important.

If Romney wins what -- of commander in chief -- we see and what impact we have on our military forces.

Joining us now with some thoughts -- all this general Jack Kean the former vice chief of staff.

An army at a Fox News military analyst general welcome great to have you here today thank you good to see you.

Based on what you've seen so far what kind of commander in chief could we expect from -- president Romney.

Well I think -- -- effective -- has had huge amount of executive experience probably more than many who run for this office.

Knowing that I think -- policies a pretty sound it's only he was very frustrated with how we end of the war in Iraq cannot -- leave a residual force.

He wants to finish to war in Afghanistan.

And complete the mission and not withdraw arbitrarily.

And let's get country stabilize before we finished doing what we need to be done so based on what we have heard I think you'd be effective.

Romney has made it clear that Iran with a nuclear weapon is -- unacceptable.

So far -- Obama White House has relied on sanctions which haven't done much.

To stop Iran from moving forward with its nuclear ambitions what you expect -- Romney would do in a situation like this going beyond sanctions.

Well I think he's he said the military option is on the table also has this administration but the problem we have here -- moment is that the Israelis do not believe.

That -- military option is credible and -- themselves they don't believe you would do it.

More importantly the running still believe that and that's really the problem we have on what is move in Israel is closer -- some kind of military action.

Romney as a candidate has said that military option would be on the table and he would use.

But nonetheless you have to wait until.

He is in office if he's elected on the stand.

What that means he has to get full briefings on the details of all of that I don't think he's had the details of those briefings in terms of what that action -- would mean what and what the consequences.

-- that are some people are pushing for preemptive strike.

Against Iran for example to send a clear message what impact would that have at this point.

Well I believe it if you accept the reality that.

A nuclear weapons in the hands of the Iran -- is a threat to the region and also threatened to Israel.

Then.

Using a military option as a last resort I think is a reasonable option the consequences of -- of certainly severe.

It enables the -- -- obviously to retaliate they would retaliate against Israel to be sure.

And that would involve probably hundreds if not thousands of casualties terrorism would be a weapon that they would increase worldwide they would also have the option.

To attack our bases in Afghanistan.

And and other places in the gulf states so the consequences of the military option a source of.

Plastics and remain very high on that -- of course and Romney is making it very clear that he believes this administration has quote thrown Israel under the bus.

And he wants to do everything he can't to stand by our ally.

How you think this is playing out across the country and over in the Middle East.

We'll -- Israelis -- I have contacts myself just like other people in this town do when they're very frustrated.

And they do feel like -- and a they're a life boat without a lifeline and then they're being forced to execute -- military option they would rather not do.

They don't have the same capability that we do so it's -- there is a certain amount of risk involved one whether they could be effective to how much damage could they seriously do.

And then they have to deal with the consequences of of that action as well what they want us to do was step up to the plate.

Put a real option on the table and put crippling sanctions on the table.

You're running it's quite frankly.

If you accept the fact that the reason why they won a nuclear weapon is preserve the regime than they would they would accept severe.

Sanctions.

That would threaten that regime and it didn't put up with economic -- what they wouldn't put up with his economic collapse and we're not anywhere near that yet in terms of -- Very interesting indeed of course -- Concerns and the debate over our foreign policy will continue in this campaign and we -- keep close watch channel that thank you general for joining us today good --
