If you ask and and I what we -- To break up just one more fight between the boys.

-- wake up in the morning.

And discover a pile of kids asleep in our room.

Tell every mom and dad knows the answer that.

Governor Mitt Romney they're showing us some of his emotions and the dad during his speech at the Republican Convention.

He getting positive remarks for his speech -- how have a balance will he get in the polls.

Let's ask doctor and I haven't read -- university -- -- -- for politics welcome great to have you here.

Thank you -- talk about the so called convention bounce do you expect the governor to benefit from the convention.

Yes I expect a bounce and probably by Tuesday will have a pretty good idea -- what it is we need a combination of polls to figure out.

What it was.

John McCain got a six point balance in 2008 President Obama got a four point bounce on the other hand.

John Kerry back in 2004 got zero balance President Bush only got two point.

And this election is a lot more like 2004.

Then it's like 2008 so I doubt the bounces are that big.

But I think governor Romney will get a balanced.

The Republicans after all survived everything from hurricane -- to hurricane Clint.

Indeed the fact that both conventions are happening so close together how does that affect the balance.

Well bounces tend to fade very quickly and I think it speeds up.

The fading of the balance we go -- immediately from the Republican Convention into the Democratic Convention.

Some of us wish -- were like it used to be when you had several weeks.

Between the two conventions and people could actually assembling.

What they had just learned at one convention but.

That's not the way the parties do it anymore.

Many are saying dad when that governor Romney spoke to the crowd this week he was really talking to the independents and disaffected Democrats who are upset with President Obama hoping.

To convince them that he has what it takes to take the country on a -- forced prosperity and more jobs.

Do you think he made that connection successfully to that audience.

-- they they had several really important things to do at this convention.

Most of all they needed to put the emphasis on jobs and on the Obama record with respect -- jobs second they needed to go on the offense.

With respect to Paul Ryan -- Medicare and budget plants.

And third they needed to warm up Mitt Romney to humanize him.

You know by my checklist they did some or all of each one of those things.

Now personally I think they did a better job revving up the base.

Getting a base selection out of this than they did connecting with independent.

But -- frankly not that many independents and swing voters really watch these conventions anymore.

Nor do they have that many opportunities.

You've got the news channels covering it.

But unfortunately the major networks have cut this back to the bone.

Now that's a very very good point and certainly it's not to the kind of audiences that want what has scene say even ten or fifteen years ago.

We mention the fact about the governor connecting with his more personal emotions in this speech.

About his family roots -- children's love of country do you think voters upcoming away from this week's convention now have a better understanding of who Romney is based on what he said.

The images that was shown in the convention this week.

They have a better sense of -- -- I think anybody who watched a substantial portion of that convention.

Does have a better sense of who Mitt Romney is and what he's done in his life.

Some of the testimonials were very affecting I think we all remember the the elderly couple for Massachusetts who's who's dying fourteen year old son received at Romney's.

Assistance and -- even writing as well.

Those things may be -- -- give -- the television ads in the fall assuming we actually have some positive TV ads you know -- to break up all the negative ones.

But if they use them well they can continue to define and expand on people's understanding of Mitt Romney will be very interesting to see.

Thanks so much.
