S segment got so much attention yesterday there was an episode of the hit TLC show child isn't Sierras.

And it caused outrage after a four year old contested held a fake cigarette.

I mean.

Yeah.

All right let's don't these look to the states contestant number 27.

A big round of applause fourth down.

-- Comes out with a cigarette in her mouth.

-- -- -- -- What does she think.

So wasn't reform is outrageous or are people just overreacting.

Joining us now our destiny Christian.

Her parents Lisa and Desmond Christian and pageant director for beautiful -- productions Angeles -- welcome to all of via.

Get more good morning all right Lisa let me -- the we do you tell us the thinking behind giving destiny.

This state cigarette to use on stage.

Well they're thinking that I had was.

We knew it was her first -- Padgett and we just wanted to be competitive with the other girls we didn't know what -- bay.

OK now we have a psychiatrist.

On the show yesterday who we showed that.

Segment too because it did cause outrage you saw among the audience there and of course among the audience viewing at home.

And he said that.

Give a child a cigarette even if it's fake even if it's a prop sends exactly the wrong.

Message then you don't want your four year old to grow up thinking it's cigarettes are cool.

I'll buy and that now -- down my I have already explained to my daughter that cigarette smoking is bad for your -- And she knows the difference between -- -- wrong.

And I don't think for -- ending.

Is no harm to her.

Okay right now Angela you of course are the pageant directors so so.

People understand because what we see video look we're seeing on the other side of the screen right here.

You know little kids using cigarettes in -- dressing provocatively.

We saw some with.

Putting padded bras on in one segment they're dressed in sort of a sexual fashion.

How can you say that you're not exploiting these.

Little kids on some level.

I think it's exploiting I think it's just a hobby and with the glitz pageants a lot of people -- go over the top with their -- -- But I don't think it's any different than cheerleading or gymnastics or chasing its product for -- -- -- -- -- you know if the pats fan and you know a lot of people just have a lot of fun with that.

Absolutely people have fun but isn't it different than gymnastics cheerleading in that -- is just basically about.

How they look at how they dress there's not a skill.

Necessarily.

Well I there's a lot of skill involved with pageants a lot of these girls that compete on the national level that -- you know they compete in I mean.

Every waking going to pageants the pageant.

And they have to deal lot of training.

And just like gymnastics in Connecticut cheerleading I mean there's a lot of outrageous outfits with competitive cheerleading -- make that.

But it doesn't really draw the attention as a beauty pageant and I think the -- -- and TRS has picked the pageants out in the world.

And therefore there's going to be a lot of criticism.

-- You noticed about destiny as -- has participated in this shall have you seen any changes in her personality.

Now I'm seeing any changes in this -- destiny is just five the little girl and she is not your typical for -- What is she like what has she said what is your response been to being in some of these pageants.

-- loves doing pageants.

And she has even I even wanted to quit on hand she -- -- -- she said no mommy I don't wanna quit.

She is a team player she loves to clap and cheer on all the other girls she does not have any AMA's Bethany is just.

Come lately all for the girls.

Well she sure looks cute they are behind you we know that she does not have an -- he says you can't exactly hear the questions that I'm asking Angela.

Message do you think -- -- Pageants sends to.

Young girls like destiny.

I know that they think any message a lot of the girls are just having a great time I never -- -- really enjoy -- her -- and performance.

And I -- on the outside well there's going to be a lot of criticism because especially if they're kids they're not in pageants so they're not really understanding what goes on.

That I did not believe that it's exploiting kids in any -- -- I mean that's why did the stopping for a second because I sure speaking we're seeing the split screen I don't know if you can see him monitor all of these.

Little girls they're in the padded bras in the fake.

Underwear and again our psychiatrist yesterday who.

Then deals with adolescent girls once they have body image issues says that this is just sexual -- in kids.

-- -- too young how do you say it's not when they're putting on these provocative bras and panties.

Again it's you know.

Take eats their.

Around I mean I mean I personally do not have a child that says pageants I do not having utility -- That a lot of the people that they can heat -- -- -- a lot of the kids have a great time.

And I know one of the -- in the news right now she's competed at a lot of my pageants and she enjoys being on stage.

And I'm not saying that everything that has been on toddlers -- he artists is part -- But on the same note it's just a prop it's just a cost -- and really it's nothing more.

I -- -- the Lisa and as in Christian.

Destiny Christian Angela Smith we sure appreciate you coming on in giving us your first hand experience of what it's been like.

To be this pageant in -- in the middle of some of this criticism thanks so much we're glad to have you flip -- to be here thank you.
