And we're back now when they've -- -- -- sky box in the Time Warner arena here in Charlotte.

The mayor of one of the nation's largest cities will have a big role this week.

Joining us now the chairman of the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles mayor Antonio -- -- rebel side.

Mayor welcome to fox is unlikely to see you again Chris -- -- may be the chairman of the Democratic Convention but -- like to say and I'm gonna go read the quote.

You take on stupid wherever it exists.

So -- stupid about Romney and the Republicans.

I don't want to described -- either governor Romney.

Or the Republicans are stupid but I will say this.

If you look at their platform.

Did the 2012.

Pat platform.

It looks like it's from another century and maybe even -- that looks like that the platform of 1812.

When you see.

That they want to repeal.

-- the Affordable Care Act providing 32 million people with health care -- no alternative plan of their own.

They call for the self deportation of eleven million people no country in the world has ever done that.

They don't believe.

In that abortion even in the case of rape and incest.

It's it's a it's a platform that's from another century -- Just to point out doesn't matter that Romney does support the exception for rape and incest but since you say that you take on stupid where -- exists.

What's stupid about Obama and the Democrats but again if I wasn't gonna -- -- Romney had and the Republicans have been absurd and I got a -- Democrats.

And President Obama Stephen that I will say this I think there -- some Democrats that don't want to address.

Pension reform.

I've taken on the issue of seniority and tenure I think we have to address entitlements and the president has done that in this budget.

I think we we -- -- that extended Medicare in the French president has done that but also reinvest.

In.

That's -- and -- he doesn't have any major entitlement reform.

Well he has made it absolutely clear.

That he's prepared to work on a bipartisan basis to address.

Things like Social Security even though the -- for years to do that well it every time he tries to work with them.

They listened to senator McConnell what what is senator McConnell say his number one issue is still block the president -- -- -- better start him -- interest for the first two years he had a filibuster proof majority in the senate.

And a big majority in the house and for the first two years he was dealing with the biggest.

Recession.

The worst hemorrhaging of jobs since the Great Recession look.

You're not gonna get me to say.

That Democrats don't make mistakes we do.

I mentioned that two areas their pension reform in seniority and tenure.

I've done a -- -- advocated for both I've advocated for sequel reform as well we're not a -- genius party.

Any more then the Republicans are but we are party that I think.

Has a plan to take us forward.

And if you look at the Republican plan.

It's a plan that wants to resurrect.

The bush tax policies and economic policies that got us here in the first place -- -- But but let me just interfere interrupt for a second you could not as much -- you want put aside Romney.

And and the attacks on Romney for a second let's just talk about the president's record he's seeking re election.

Here is his record his economic record eight point 3% unemployment.

23 million Americans out of work -- unable to find full time jobs five point three trillion dollars added to the -- Why does a president would that record.

Deserve reelection.

Because he's also created four and a half a million jobs more jobs during his tenure.

Then all the jobs created.

During the Bush Administration.

Why.

Because he's got a plan had to cut four trillion dollars in the next decade out of our deficit.

He's got a plan to extend Medicare by eight years he's got a a plan.

That will say let's take.

Taxes on the top 2% of America back to me what were they work under President Clinton.

When we had.

-- an economy that generated 23 million jobs.

And importantly we -- that started.

-- deficits and ended with surpluses.

OK okay you talk about.

Addressing the long term problems let's take one example the president appointed his own commission the Bowles Simpson commission which came up -- this big.

Bipartisan plan to take four trillion dollars out.

-- about what this its recommendations.

The president ignored the recommendations and let them die you said.

If you had been a member of congress you would have quote absolutely voted for Bowles Simpson the president.

Took a pass actually.

-- -- as president of the conference of mayors we passed the Simpson Bowles plan is that template as a template as a framework.

For moving forward and the president has done the same but let me just say something.

Because you talked about the Republican Convention you know mr.

Ryan raised that -- well what he didn't say is he was about a member of that commission and didn't vote for it high it is -- -- what president's commission and yeah does not -- what what the president has done he's also cutting four trillion dollars.

Out of this deficit.

Now he's not cutting that in a way that Republicans are never gonna why he's not -- had bipartisan -- why actually he's it is the did he didn't have mr.

Ryan's support and and you -- to get a -- -- -- it it wasn't exactly reflective of mr.

I did have Republicans and had Democrats as well not enough for the nature -- it should've had that -- by unanimous support for.

It as a framework not for everything and -- And what the president has -- he's adopted four trillion dollars in deficit cuts over the next ten years.

-- what he didn't do is he didn't want to cut defenses much and he actually went be on.

Them.

In terms of tax cuts.

To the middle class he does not want to cut taxes for the middle class he'd prefer closing tax loopholes.

And importantly.

Allowing the bush tax cuts to expire for the top 2% let's turn to -- we believe that you got to build.

The economy from the middle out.

-- from the top down you know bush 41 called that voodoo economics and this is voodoo economics on steroids -- -- is.

Raegan catalog by a better growth right and a lot lower unemployment than Barack Obama -- -- it would be turning in his grave just to hear some of the words that come out of the people -- the Republican convey the wonder how Israel Delta's growth yeah.

When they do happy yeah I've -- good very good let's turn -- the Hispanic vote which may play a key role in this election here's what -- said.

About the Republican Convention you can't just trot out a browns face.

For a Spanish surname and expect people are going to vote.

For your party or your candidate but the Republicans have to.

Hispanic governors who spoke of the convention the Democrats have none said in -- Marco Rubio who introduced Romney.

Is one of the rising stars of the Republican Party that's more than tokenism sir.

Well for so let me be absolutely clear.

I said death in the makeup room that I thought Suzanne would Martinez.

And Marco Rubio gave the two best speeches of the convention Marco Rubio who -- it was exceptional.

And I was never directing my comments toward him I was directing that.

Toward in fact he actually agreed.

With me the only thing he said is.

It if that applies to Republicans it also -- to the Democrats and I don't disagree with that.

The difference between us.

Is that he has a party platform that calls for the self deportation eleven million people they were not they didn't just have Susanna Martinez and and Marco Rubio -- had Chris -- back got the author of the Alabama and Arizona laws they trotted out -- sheriff are pale they were prominently there is well.

So when you have the kind of rhetoric.

That they have the scapegoats and demonize -- immigrants into the way that they do when they say -- -- it a -- it would be Affordable Care Act just so you understand.

Nine million of the 32 million people that would qualify for an Affordable Care Act are Latino.

OK but do you talk about Broderick let's talk about the economic record of the president when it comes to Hispanics.

Unemployment among Hispanics is now ten point 3% it hasn't been below 10%.

For Hispanics since this president took office.

And when you include discouraged workers on unemployed and underemployed.

It's 19%.

For Hispanics that's a record to run for reelection well.

And which didn't say -- That.

Contesting your numbers but -- he didn't say is that.

His policies also brought two million Latinos out of poverty a hundred -- his policies.

Make -- -- easier for kids.

To get -- student loans allowed -- 150000.

Kids to get a college education so yes this is the worst economy.

Has since the recession we've created more jobs we had 29 straight months.

-- consecutive months by the way.

A private sector job growth four and a half million jobs we still got to do a lot more according to -- -- -- analytics if we keep down this path we'll create about another twelve million jobs in the next four years that's what -- says he's gonna do to forward Moody's.

Analytics said it about us that's we got the number -- cash.

Four years ago Obama got 67% of the Hispanic vote McCain got 31%.

What -- and it's going to be that's tough.

I think I said I think it's going to be closer to 70% to somewhere between 6770.

I just don't see them getting.

Many.

Much more beyond that I do but I do agree with this that we've got our work cut out for us this is going to be a very close election we've got the most comprehensive and deep.

Ground effort that we've ever seen in fact.

This it convention.

It's not only going to be the most diverse open and accessible it's also going to be a working combat why do you think this is going to be -- a tough election.

Well it's going to be a tough election for a lot of reasons one the country's evenly divided has been for a long time.

Two we had a banner year in 2008 -- obviously we're not gonna have that -- year this time around.

They've got a lot of money.

That they're raising them over a what a 1000000003.

Lou you know in these super pacs that.

Engage in super smears and so that would get -- -- wouldn't have our work cut out for us I think in the end.

We're gonna when they're gonna have to leave -- -- wanna thank you thank you thanks so much for joining us good luck this -- -- this.
