Congressman Paul Ryan the Republican vice presidential nominee is campaigning today in North Carolina of all places.
The day before the Democratic National Convention kicks off there in Charlotte.
Other top GOP leaders also will be in that state this week it's a political tactic some call bracket in.
Where one party tries to take some of the spotlight away from the other party's big event.
John Roberts has more on -- he's live from the convention floor well now he's outside the convention hall in Charlotte John.
We're inside we're -- were all over the place Danielle used to be during these conventions at the opposition party would lay low for the week.
Out of courtesy it would also save the money allow their people the rest up.
But in this modern world now you just can't do that anymore so the Republicans have launched -- the Democrats did in Tampa an aggressive counter programming campaign.
We were in their war room yesterday taking a look at what they're doing to bringing up some of the Republican stars governor Nikki Haley from South Carolina Mary Fallon from Oklahoma Bob McDonnell.
From Virginia as well as Jason -- and it's very popular congressman from.
The state of Utah who says you don't you just can't lay low during these conventions anymore.
You can't.
It used to be you can respond the next -- -- -- -- put out a letter but.
Between tweets -- FaceBook and 44 hour news cycles you better be right there on the scene for.
-- perspective.
And the perspective that they are trying to put forward in this convention Johnny is the idea is.
Reagan did back in 1980 many people say helped win him the election are you better off now than you were four years ago.
-- so we heard congressman.
That that's part of how they're getting it out the Republicans have rented space in the big NASCAR headquarters here very popular place that got access to television studio.
They at a press conference just about an hour ago they also -- -- they gave up some little charge -- A Lego set here this is on the back.
You didn't build that and some tissues -- say.
Breaking up is hard to do they're trying to convince people to break up with President Obama they have also released a top secret Obama campaign agenda.
Which of course is you would expect is blank.
And they have a new ad out which takes a look -- an echo -- takes a look at what President Obama is state of the campaign now.
Comparing it to what he said 2008 that things are very very very similar take a look.
Nor will it work what -- it.
Don't work even harder in the lives of our problems.
I promises it won't -- -- this very intense outreach campaign is going to continue all week Republicans remember all too well.
What happened -- candidate John Kerry back in 2004 with the Democrats held a convention at the end of July.
And then he was literally dark off the air the entire month of August they don't want what happened to him to happen -- -- -- shot Spicer is the director of communications for the RNC.
They just sat back and waited and and obviously it didn't work out too well so we're we're gonna make sure that we take advantage of every minute that we can be here in Charlotte.
So is as much as the Democrats have got this huge megaphone coming out of the the Time Warner Center behind me.
We have Republicans are gonna try to match it will be a little difficult the job because their staff is slightly smaller let's say than the one that the Democrats have it.
And the folks in those swing states can expect to see even more political advertising over the next president so we.
John Roberts in -- thank.
