The American people against each other still -- we will vote.

Doing is wrong.

American people and we long -- Well that was the president of the nation's largest Federation of Trade Unions speaking at an Obama rally just about an hour ago.

With some fiery language directed at governor Mitt Romney.

Union workers of course are a big chunk of the president's base.

But down here in Charlotte home to this week's DNC some of the biggest unions in the country are refusing to attend this convention.

Over what they say is anti union legislation here in North Carolina.

Tucker Carlson is a Fox News contributor and editor of the daily caller well that's interesting because it trump -- turning the Republican attack back on you know on that saying.

Through -- hauling her last week is about how the Democrats want to divide us class warfare and now he's saying it's it's Mitt Romney who wants to divide us.

Yes.

Not clear that's gonna work as a line of argument it is striking how many of the big -- -- this one out North Carolina -- a right to work states for the machinists laborers from the building trades unions did not come all the public sector unions can.

-- they did come in 2008 and they donated money worse and worse and they are a huge part of the president's base he said but especially this fundraising base.

And to some is that they sat it out I mean I think this campaign has -- higher proportion from Hollywood.

Inference from the super affluent that ultimately why would they do that because if you read the articles about how you guys feel they feel that -- Romney will definitely bad for them.

Yeah and their little ticked off at Barack Obama for some of his policies right that the teachers unions and so on me don't love some of his education reforms.

But it seems like they believe that Mitt Romney would be terrible for that.

So why would they say I don't I think that's right -- because they're miffed at him -- begin by the choice of north to -- also upset because they don't think Obama fought hard enough for card check that was basically -- one issue.

They helped get him elected in 2008 they thought they were gonna get that return they didn't they don't think he.

He -- -- our recess appointment earlier this year and it wasn't technically recess city NLRB and then fill those of those spots with people were extremely pro union and the how much more does the union there might be something else going on here this is my theory and I and I think the Scott Walker.

Saga says a lot about this I mean he's put all this money behind the effort to unseat Scott Walker in the special election in it was Johnson but it and they failed.

What does it -- it tells you that for the traditional unions the working in team not not the public sector employee unions but there's no that we -- unions.

I don't think their membership is behind Barack Obama to the extent that previous democratic candidates have their support at all.

How does that reflect itself in this campaign because today you had them coming on promising that.

They're gonna throw a bunch of money in into this campaign they say that they're pledging to spend more than 100 million dollars to a -- Barack Obama.

They're gonna put it into states like Wisconsin Indiana.

Midwestern states that they believe yes he can and must win and they think it's gonna -- may indeed have a big effect in Wisconsin specifically but the truth is.

More than 40% of union households in that state did not vote to unseat Scott Walker so it tells you something about the individual loyalties.

Of the union members especially in the sort of the traditional unions not asked me but the you Teamsters means like that.

There's not for a -- and in some ways and I think given emotional connection to him.

And in some ways that make sense he's from a different wing of the party he's from -- -- the academic intellectual wing of the party.

And there are from them much sort of early twentieth century wing of the party so I actually think they'll have less effect.

That a lot of Republicans fear they -- I date is the importance of unions politically right.

Starting to -- Well it definitely is starting to fade outside the public sector.

Unions and all the growth in the past twenty years and organized labor has been.

Among public sector employees and that's one of the reasons so many states are facing -- states in which hasn't had an energy -- -- yeah states that haven't like discovered oil.

In the past ten years -- -- -- fracking.

Those states are going bankrupt because they sign these.

Really burdensome union deals with incredibly power -- sector unions but the rest of organized labor -- -- is in trouble for sure know how much of.

Impact will that make financially so they don't really don't donate a hundred million or if they if they do and that's all they do -- -- -- -- ground game getting people out that's one of the big things we've been told -- -- do is get people to the -- If they don't do it how big -- hit is that abrupt about -- he's got Hollywood money.

Does yet Hollywood organizes Brad Pitt is Anna wintour going to be on the ground in Ohio and fired up up North Carolina getting people for the -- I think this.

-- really Smart distinction there's a massive -- -- giving money.

And getting up -- -- in the case of this campaign look we're full saturation there's not one voter who doesn't know enough to make a decision at least -- He wants -- you could -- you can learn.

I think the money is the -- -- get especially for Obama is getting out the vote because of the Obama constituencies he needs to win.

Are people who don't typically vote in high numbers on the Republican side -- have a lot of voters over 65 you can't stop them from voting right they vote in force every time but I Obama's side -- a lot of voters who need encouragement and if they don't get it Obama won't win and the unions are good at doing that.

-- right about here in North Carolina according to that.

The top Republican.

The party official in North Carolina he says the Democrats have lost a 108000.

Voter asked since the last go round.

So if you -- union members who are feeling it.

Just not enthused maybe I don't like Ronnie that it that it is about a Barack Obama maybe they don't get to the polls themselves exactly donates.

Or round -- the other people so cut it falls down -- and a it's funny that you could -- -- Didn't -- have a -- right now you know that at -- back.

-- target -- for being here is.

Not easy to endorse products based on her easy -- prison Merrill's street come and go.
