When -- -- minutes past the hour twenty past three here in Charlotte at the home of the Democratic National Convention -- the First Lady Michelle Obama will be up on the big stage tonight.
And the partisan faithful will love that for sure she follows the San Antonio mayor who didn't -- -- we talked about a little bit the last block.
He'll deliver the keynote address I -- that's a first no Latino -- ever done that before.
Aides to the First Lady say -- -- will mostly focus on her husband's personal qualities.
But they also said that the First Lady won't shy away from highlighting some of the president's achievements including the new health care law.
So let's bring in a couple of vote regulars around here spoke former special counsel to President Bill Clinton and party contributor Lanny Davis who's known President Clinton for what like.
A 150 years 42 year 42 years and former press secretary of Rick santorum's presidential campaign former communications director for Michelle Bachmann -- well Alice Stewart is here.
You can and right.
There isn't it great to be here.
I -- -- -- -- -- the First Lady tonight what's what's her mission.
And I think she has a serious side message of what her husband has done as president.
And I think she is the human side about what kind of dad he is have a kind of human being -- -- she has to do both of those sure I'm sure she'll do well.
Alice black -- -- to steer clear of politics I mean that's not what she generally thought Johnson to.
So obviously prefer your husband as a as a great husband a great father and every person it's there's no disputing that he is a great person he's just a bad president.
And we we expect her to talk about.
You know him more as a person as opposed the leader it's it's going to be hard to talk about his leadership because it's not been one that has made things better for the American people.
Problem -- -- also when you have to -- them the benefit of reaching out to independence she's gonna have to really trying to -- in a lot of the disaffected supporters that the administration is experiencing.
All right -- and one of the controversy well.
There the few things that are bubbling in the 24 hour cable cycle.
52 Internet cycle and one of them is the president gave himself an incomplete.
On this process and I guess what he's saying is I want four more years -- He inherited a very tough hand and he's digging out of a deep hole that he inherited that's not to blame George Bush I happen to be soft on.
George Bush is a good friend of mine but I think he has to state the fact that I had a very tough and.
From 2009 and I've been a pretty good job creating four and a half million jobs and passing national health care and.
I think I hope appealing to this civil discourse of this country rather than mean spirited.
Certainly -- no debating that he had to pull us out of a hole like no one ever dreamed possible.
This no disputing that but he's so himself three and a half four years ago that if he doesn't turn the economy around -- by this time it's going to be a one term proposition and we expect beholden to that he did say that when when you've got you know unemployment above 8% hurt for -- obviously the timing got -- GDP at one and -- half percent you've got -- The that the debt and deficit spots.
-- about skyrocketing out of control and we need to we need change we need someone like the Romney trying to get the we'll get in there and rein in the size of government and encourage free market enterprise in -- middle class jobs -- is exactly what we need to turn the economy around and get jobs created in this country.
One of the other things is bubbling around there today it's it's some sort of uncomfortable even talk about frankly.
But this quote that Bill Clinton is alleged to have at one point said.
He would he there was a time when he didn't carry our bags for us.
Meaning that President Obama there was a time when -- have been carrying the bags for the clintons.
We we we spoke briefly before this program you've known Bill Clinton for 42 years.
We as people in society have known Bill Clinton for long time.
Never heard anything like that at -- Oakland.
First of all it's impossible that he would have said those words much less to Ted Kennedy impossible secondly.
The report is a great reporter but he's relying on someone who passed away who told it to someone who told it to someone and.
That's what's being written in the article don't believe firsthand -- -- -- -- -- you're safe from someone who has to make this is just totally not believable.
And I don't think it -- should have been published like I don't know why they would publish second hand hearsay without any validity.
This campaign has gotten kind of grows on both sides all over the place and announced it has it's been very negative and and and the problem is -- administration that instead of focusing on the record which is typical.
Of an incumbent president.
That's not a record that he wants to talk about so he's turning the tables and he's going negative and is making personal tax.
Against the competition because he's not that's not have a record to run on and we got to get things -- we need to have what.
The Romney -- -- doing -- staying focused.
They're staying on the issue that people of this country are concerned about you know you've been out there I have and -- actually heard it go is negativity thing I've ever heard -- primary night and I've that's part of it I mean as new Dickerson got it it.
Part of the primary process you know it's there's all this and as these all part of the process you have to like it but it is or cross right on the TSA -- the focus back on jobs the economy I haven't heard haven't heard that happened.
I mean I hear them all say we ought to be talking about jobs and the economy but -- -- really have -- think none of everything what to say about job.
The economy but listen carefully to Bill -- I think it was picked by president Obama's keynote speakers because he does have the ability to.
Disagree agree ability.
To be civil and not to demonize opposition -- and that's what I think Barack Obama has to listen to.
And doing his intent to wheel truck to not limit will drop.
I think he's one of those people all of his life as long as I've known and who converted enemies into friends and haven't made friends into enemies that's the key thing about -- And the only thing about having Clinton speak here is is granted he's a great speaker and -- -- But he's gonna call attention the fact -- in his leadership -- economic prosperity we sure did how they have egos -- Good times certainly weren't there is sure now we have economic turmoil also remember -- by saying that at the time good.
It was good -- certainly is better than what we have now this is gonna call attention to add to that but.
It will certainly be great to speak hopefully they've got via the don't have that one hour time limit on -- -- -- it -- well it.
I'm that was a long speech.
I was there -- -- noticeably.
Could you vote.
