Good evening and welcome back to the Time Warner Cable Arena right now Cory Booker that Newark mayor is speaking on the democratic stage here.
I'm Bret Baier and now the Labor Day is over many students are headed back to school for the start of the new academic term -- President Obama.
Who is seeking a new term.
Is giving himself a grade.
For the first one.
That -- comes as the national debt that clips the sixteen trillion dollar mark today you can see that debt clock ticking up from.
Sixteen million as we speak on the corner of your strain.
We'll have more on your share of that debt later in this show but first chief White House correspondent Ed Henry with the president's report -- After nearly four years in office what grade -- President Obama himself on the economy.
You know.
I was saying complete.
And you know historically after these big financial crises.
You know where a lot of people are heard dealing with dad or a collapse of the housing market.
You know that creates bigger challenges we're seeing this not just here in the -- -- around the world.
That interview with the station in the battleground of Colorado served up a softball the Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan for years -- -- presidency and it's incomplete.
The president is asking people just to be patient with him White House officials insist it's not new because the president has previously graded himself with an incomplete.
True but they're not mentioning just one year into his presidency he told Oprah Winfrey he deserved a solid B plus.
An added passing health care would -- it to an eight minus.
Today the chairman of this convention went further suggesting the president deserves top marks for trying to turn the economy around.
I give me an a for effort.
-- give him.
-- -- Making sure that Americans are better off today.
Than they were four years ago I do believe.
That we need four more years -- a majority of the electorate seems to disagree and may be looking for was -- rather than effort with unemployment at eight point 3%.
Gas prices as a national average now close to four dollars a gallon and the national debt crossing sixteen trillion dollars.
Asked by the hill newspaper whether the president deserves a second term 54% said no.
Only 40% said yes.
The president made clear today he believes the lack of specifics from Republican Mitt Romney.
I opened the door for the incumbent to use his own acceptance speech to lay out how he plans to fix that -- complete.
May not have been eager to talk about their ideas.
Well -- -- I don't know -- look forward to sharing.

On Thursday night -- all for what I believe the better path forward.

Good jobs.
And strengthen our middle class.
-- second straight day that the president's message was over Saturday -- -- yesterday there were some bubbles on the question about.
Whether or not we're better off for years later -- Friday there could be an even bigger problem we'll get the August jobs report.
Which could step on the president's speech from the night before.
