Which some worry could potentially take votes from Romney and spoil his chances at a key battleground state.
The Virginia GOP's already mounting a legal challenge to have him removed from the ballot.
And governor Romney's hunkered down in Vermont for debate preparation and even some rehearsals.
At the home of -- former lieutenant governor in Massachusetts Kerry -- US senator Rob Portman of Ohio will be the governor's sparring partner playing the role of Barack Obama the same service he provided to John McCain back in the 2008 debate season.
