Yeah America's election headquarters your front row seat all week at the Democratic National Convention and -- Republican Convention before it.

There was First Lady Michelle Obama energizing the crowd on day one.

President Bill Clinton showing he is still a star when he took the stage on day two.

All warm up for the final nine when President Obama came out asking voters to give him more time to solve the nation's problems.

We were expecting Democrats to counter the Republican -- the big question hanging over the entire campaign are you better off now than you were four years ago.

So who won the week let's talk about it with a couple of political pros Bob Beckel is co host of the five -- on Fox News Channel.

A former endemic -- a democratic campaign manager Ed Rollins has taken part in nine Republican conventions he is a Fox News contributor as well.

So let's start off with a question and then we'll get into some of the details who won the week Bob.

-- -- edited clearly did that the Democrats debate rather repugnant -- the week before and -- -- -- me let you -- here to tell us about that threat but I'm sure and I apologize for that.

But.

That there reality is look I know who's to include screw up on the -- Jerusalem and gotten that but.

In this game of the middle America they'd wake up in the morning and say gee that's terrible -- Jerusalem.

But the speakers it worked the Democrat party was energized that's -- they want to do and Clinton -- I tell you this guy is unbelievable.

I mean I've never zen like -- unfortunately he's not running.

And I think -- is a great week for the Democrats say the great convention this is a traditional.

Based convention they had their superstars.

-- in prime time we didn't get to see that the union hacks and all the rest of them can leave their speeches but there's this is all about the base.

At the end of the day though there was nothing new it and the Democrats can give extraordinary speeches has president.

And -- -- gave his version of I had a dream.

This is what America be like giving kids could go to Harvard and every kid's gonna be rich and prosperous all of keep and is he doing that as corporate American Republicans.

You know which is not a valid to -- campaign.

I think the key thing here is -- me four years from now I think that's the question more important where you were four years ago.

And I don't think he answered that question so who won the week in your view he said Democrats when we -- -- -- by default you know I was surprised that of Obama -- ground you know his artisan did I didn't expect that -- you bought and and -- you know and and I think a certain extent.

-- -- guy who lives office popularity it's not.

The best this was well and and hasn't the democratic strategy for months been to sort of demonize Mitt Romney and make him on palatable as an alternative to the -- -- of when you get into the voting Booth you know you're looking at these two names and and you you wanna stick with the W -- yes that's right I mean I think look this is Barack Obama cannot win the second term.

Mitt Romney's got to lose it.

And that's what it's this is about.

They're going to try to get more votes out of their base Romney does not have strong sentiment in the base of the Republican Party.

The the sense of them from party is they don't want Barack Obama.

Now that's which energize them but it's not Mitt Romney.

But all the polls that have said recently that that the Republican voters are more energized to go out votes than Democrat -- -- more energized they may not be after this week but the more energized because of things like a woman -- the mistake leaving got out of their platform.

They don't care about -- don't necessarily evangelicals do.

But I think the playing to the base is the most popular thing the president has done has basically been health care the vast majority of Americans don't agree with health care.

The vast majority of Americans don't agree with raising taxes the vast majority of Americans don't believe you can cut tuition and -- schools -- only do that -- you eliminate half the professors not gonna do that.

Sides it was a it was a speech about lots of dreams but not any reality there -- another rally is just -- -- three states Florida.

Virginia and Ohio and -- -- he's got to run all three.

And he's got -- -- clean that table and that's a tough -- but you know and North Carolina he's got to win north cannot get word yet he's gonna win North Carolina we're not gonna -- that record when Indiana.

-- -- -- Would Obama's gonna -- -- -- lesson for -- incumbent president who's been in office for four years to be essentially tied and that's what the polls say nationwide I mean you know you can look at the swing states but.

Nationwide these two are tied isn't isn't that kind of a black mark for President Obama considering the economic conditions of the -- he -- that's -- -- ten points behind.

I think at the end of the day not only is it national.

Polls its now state by state is dead even race just about everywhere to do you know destroy what they say about that the Republicans are doing much better in red states the Democrats duke Blue States.

So that does -- national polls.

When you look at the polls in Ohio Obama is running their Florida slightly.

Virginia is up slightly.

So it really is getting them out of just a handful of states and they all know what happens is you obviously dishing -- Romney can unleash all that money he's got in -- which gets a nomination.

And it will be whatever options and -- certainly gonna carpet bomb right.

But they are but I think I think both sides that have so much money on television does -- -- -- -- what's gonna make a difference is direct mail phone banks organizational stuff.

Which obviously Democrats are more.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- We have about eight weeks ago so we'll we'll find we will continue to get to find out who wins each of them great thanks very much for being -- Ed Rollins Bob -- thank you thank.
