-- I'm just assessing both conventions it occurs to me when I was in Tampa on the one -- didn't see.

Was Jon Huntsman junior and I don't know -- the former governor right now joins me governor what happened what were you there.

You know when I found out that you're going to be there I figured that -- -- and they know -- common sense people was covered there was no need for anyone else to go.

But but let me just say -- -- -- and that practically every convention since 1984.

When I went as a delegate for President Reagan.

I'm blessed into the theatrics of politics and more and -- Howard got to find our way out of this hole.

So I sat back and wrote a piece on immigration reform for the Wall Street Journal.

And I'm also be a very good -- days of narrative that well thank you that conventions increasingly.

Or irrelevant.

We'll I mean we're -- -- -- our government could be just ahead operative.

We cover them.

OK we cover them and and they're great trips for us and we enjoyed it.

Now with that in mind.

Could you -- yeah you're right read I I think it was -- at the Democratic Convention at the Foo Fighters still put on a pretty good performance live they did have a better music democratic senator they had better music -- -- -- -- -- it's it's it's an opportunity I -- deal right you know to get specific about how we're gonna go forward because let's face -- the conventions are over.

The numbers are pretty much back to where they were before nobody knows anything about the candidates a real they did know before let's face it with the saturation bombing -- all of the information that's out there on the candidates it's not like even as recently as 1992.

Where he had just three or four networks and people just didn't know much about you until you stepped on that stage of the convention.

So here we are with these horrible.

Unemployment numbers and wondering which way to go and I think Mitt Romney has a huge opportunity.

Because the issues are with the Republican Party -- big.

They are difficult they -- complicated they're gonna require a full airing an articulation I think he's up to the task.

And I think the next two months really want to be about getting us to the promised land articulating.

How we get.

This economy the greatest the world has ever known.

Back in fighting shape.

And that's gonna take.

I think three things that need to be vetted.

One -- tax reform we've talked a lot of about that already and I think there's a consensus is kind of emerging on Capitol Hill for how that will work.

The second is immigration reform and let's face it we need to get beyond the nativist rhetoric.

We need to recognize it for what it is and start seeing it as a legitimate economic development tool.

That -- store vitality that adds to our brain power and will be critical for future performance.

And the third.

Let's face it the greatest -- -- given recently.

Is shale gas.

I don't think we have any idea with this is gonna mean to -- US economy going forward and how it's going to boost our prospects for competitiveness.

When you consider that manufacturing businesses today.

Are dealing went economics that are more twelve dollars and fifty cent their per barrel oil prices as opposed to a hundred dollar per barrel this is a huge deal and we haven't even figured out -- to make it work longer term but that's in my tech issue why did you go to the convention.

I think I -- answer that would really has.

I've been around -- Romney you know.

Million yards and ran against him the nomination -- there you know you have as a bull by US and so I don't think -- -- -- -- -- and ask you are buzzing that right now he's our best of -- gonna get out that -- ideally deserters on -- -- It's -- you -- do you not like each -- there's -- -- I don't what is it.

You know -- is not what you guys love to stir up a lot of the drama the controversy that back stories now this is just any stirring up to -- -- if he hits home.

He won the primary a legitimately he's a good man he's able to get out there on the issues that he feels passionately about he can drive this thing to victory and he's got two months in which to take it to the mayor.

You are gonna vote for you are gonna vote for him not as if all -- course and of course I've of course I -- Vote for Alibaba deal when you talk about the minutes is -- -- Republicans failed and addressing these issues at all and then you know Bill Clinton.

Which is written a number dissertation a lot of folks were saying at that convention -- the Republicans ever comfortable in statistics and numbers -- not blown smoke toward you.

Governor but you're very comfortable in that -- that could.

Prove why you had a short like presidential run because we're quite comfortable with a and I'm -- you there but I I I do think that Republicans are afraid of taking on.

That the Bill Clinton types in the Bill -- itself because they're not comfortable in these numbers and expressing the -- the admission.

And their party DNA the way you can.

Quite easily keep up with him it's what they -- that -- that that Republicans aren't adequately stating their number case.

We're.

Falling back to frequently on sound bites.

And on platitudes.

What Bill Clinton did and I think brilliantly.

And I say this -- -- is dehumanized.

A lot of terribly complicated issues.

And he brought them into the living room he brought them to the heart and soul of people in ways where everybody could understand it.

He had an intelligent conversation with people who want an intelligent conversation.

They don't want to sound like they have -- people can have -- that and welcome.

And they want it and all the stuff about -- being stuck with these awful numbers c'mon this is the greatest economy the world -- ever -- -- we need to recognize -- that.

We're still waiting for the cycle to improve every quarter were waiting for cycle to cycle.

The cycle.

-- around anymore were facing a structural economic problem these numbers are structural in nature these unemployment problems.

They require a structural set of solutions.

Not temporary.

Sprinkling a little money here you're not that -- three fixes not -- government transfers of capital.

We -- structural solutions to deal with the structural.

Unemployment problem.

And that's where I think governor Romney has an opportunity stay -- the stand up on -- terribly complicated.

And and audacious proposals.

And -- bring him into the living rooms of Americans and to spell out in specificity.

How always going to get it done that's how it's gonna win the election and that's what the American people are.

Waiting for real quickly if he loses are you running and -- sixteen.

You gotta be crazy if you start thinking about politics this is soon after -- are you kidding I just can't believe -- veil is a must it's -- -- -- all but announcing but.

You're right I asked taxi yeah I'd like to think that I'm saying -- okay somewhat and most of the time anyway governor it's always a pleasure they -- indignantly.

I bet on you -- I got one of those rare birds who was a very comfort level with all of these numbers.

It's of a Bill Clinton has got that.
