Nobody backed a candidate will -- -- you live from the DNC and Charlotte were in North Carolina and we are still awaiting the big speech of the night.
And that's former President Bill Clinton and as we continue to monitor the podium we're joined by democratic senator.
Crist who's Delaware senator -- -- -- good for us has a century you're right it's been great when we haven't had a chance to meet so I haven't had a chance to thank you for the very central role he played in helping get elected a half thought into what exactly I get them prepared but did you what do you make that lineup what -- what -- your handle -- the war -- and you're very welcome -- ever felt like -- What about what was going on the floor today taking reference first they took the reference of the platform of god out -- -- they took the reference that Jerusalem as the capital out.
And then they decided to have a way of vote and then as we were showing earlier tonight.
The delegates screaming no that didn't want the changes they want at the references removed.
And then the chair after three times just goes -- and doesn't anyway what did you think of that moment.
So what -- what I think matters most is what -- the values that are embedded in the platforms that the democratic parties adopted here tonight how these two issues let's just take him briefly taken directly first and Jerusalem and its status as the capital.
For Israel and the policy that the United States has had across a number of different administrations.
Republican and Democrat I don't think there's any question.
That the policy this administration the policy it's reflected -- platform -- reflects that history the -- They think -- -- -- -- an answer my question why did it -- why take it out in the first place.
And why what does it say about that -- the delegates here.
That they did not want that put back -- this was a very pivotal moment he can't ignore what happened down there yesterday earlier today -- was a big moment.
I think what -- the big moments comes at the beginning and the end of every single day here.
When we open and close with prayer offered by clergy.
There are sessions of prayer here every day and there are values that are reflected in our platform so that it might -- as a person of faith comes out of our faith tradition so I think it is that they remain.
It is important to me that we continue to talk about what are the fundamental values that are informing our policy agenda and if you look at the Romney Ryan budget and what I expect we're gonna hear from both President Bill Clinton tonight cam from Vice President Biden of Delaware.
In our president Barack Obama tomorrow it'll be a clear and strong vision for a country -- will continue to fight for the for the middle class which in my view comes straight out of those faith values that are -- that -- -- very simple question to president Barack Obama ran.
On a couple of very specific promises saying it was the worst economy since the Great Depression.
He said in his first term.
He would cut the deficit and had.
-- accomplish that he did not and here's a point.
It took both Republicans and Democrats presidents and congresses.
To explode our deficit and debt and only talk about Obama's that -- Barack Obama's been president he said he cut the deficit in half.
The deficit is now over sixteen trillion and it went up five point four trillion.
In his term and he got his full agenda through because he had.
He had the Democrats in the house and senate.
For the first two years of his presidency for two years that I put in in the senate again but the deficit reduction plan proposed by the president was the only serious deficit reduction plan that's been on the table and -- would actually -- it reduce senate hasn't been a lot of budget you're in the senate I haven't voted on a budget since you've been there we have one budget control -- -- -- you have a budget control -- that -- don't know played assets -- Few other voted on a budget for three years in the United States and.
But I want.
We have voted on several budgets we have not adopted about to disappoint -- trying to make I believe.
And I would agree with you that as a Budget Committee we should have been able to bridge the partisan differences that still prevent us from coming to a common sense approach to dealing with their deficits and debts -- that we know.
The budget control like put in place real caps that functions as a budget.
The president said his stimulus would.
Create jobs millions of them shovel ready jobs that -- -- later they weren't so shovel ready.
We have fewer Americans working there when he took office that's just a fact.
When you look at the ABC Washington Post survey 69% of people say the country is off on the wrong track.
When you look at that same survey only 31% of voters believe that the nation is is -- a better condition.
-- ask -- the question is America better off for years later under Barack Obama and if so wonder what measure these.
Yes and let me give you a few simple measures ones that I think connect with the average American and I think reflect my role as a husband and father and citizen of Delaware first.
We're safe for my kids are safe and we've got an administration under President Obama and Vice President Biden fit make tough choices that responsibly end of the war in Iraq.
That has a son and appropriate path to remove our troops from Afghanistan.
He promised -- this thing -- he's delivering on both of those things and most importantly.
-- on the economy he targeted the leadership of al-Qaeda and has made us safer on the outlet where what we have is that -- was like an honest with all due respect President Obama.
Was against the intelligence gathering methods that were crucial to providing the intelligence I interviewed the guy that that was responsible and there.
At the at the enhanced interrogations.
He was against enhanced interrogations he wanted gitmo closed he was against -- rendition it -- against black sites all of those that he opposed you would have been able to make that very tough decision.
But for the Bush Administration policy so in fairness we gotta give bush some credit too.
Forgetting that -- because.
President Obama didn't have that was that we can debate exactly what contributed so successful campaign -- -- -- it is a -- laden when I suspect we'll both agree on.
Is that our special forces and armed forces have done an outstanding the dot and we all of them on the economy democratic give me a measure that the American people.
The 25 million -- and under -- one and six Mitt.
A six Americans in poverty and 49 million Americans have food stamps fifty million more of -- when Obama took office.
Tell me what by what measure to use that you think he made the economy better there's two things that are gonna come out of this convention first.
Folks needed here 29 months of private sector job growth four and a half -- that's not true created yet there's your second that there are there -- to -- -- there -- -- -- there -- private sector jobs.
And and and you using a period of time.
But since he's been president.
Hundreds of thousands fewer Americans are working -- -- can't put in the that's obviously a private sector probably -- that that's what -- it ourselves our people a month losing their jobs as he was inaugurated and the economy continue to get worse in the first few months is present don't like getting better we still have hundreds -- thousand fewer Americans a net job loss for his presidency you in my -- through -- and we can argue about.
Now that's -- and less fewer Americans working it.
The second point that I think's important for folks watching this -- -- Point folks who are wondering what's the right vision for our country going forward part of why we have President Clinton speaking tonight the last time there was a balanced budget the last time it was robust economic growth President Bill Clinton was leading.
This economy in this country in the right direction are we got to -- economic policies put -- -- -- right track and I trust.
Barack Obama and Joseph Biden has a fourth year resident.
It renewed that promise and I you know you get this I don't know you give Newt Gingrich Jon Casey can keep the minute she credits -- that the C a -- -- -- thanks for coming directly ship.
