Tell -- what what the focus of the book obviously you believe as a libertarian Republican that there's too much government well really it's about.
Regulations that have gone awry some of them started out with good intentions for example the Clean Water Act says you can't discharge pollutants.

Well Republicans and Democrats kind of agree that you shouldn't be allowed to discharge chemicals into the East River.
However.
What's happened over time is they have now.
Made it where a pollutants could be dirt cleaned hurt him and inevitable waters can be your backyard.
So they've kind of gone overboard and we've actually put people in prison and for putting clean fielder or gravel on low areas of development lots.
Or even their own yard -- -- take regulations and that began with good intentions it became.
Over burdening in terms of government -- -- you then scale them back to make them appropriate.
-- -- -- told us what we should do here says we need as congress we needed defined what an amicable waters are.
So there was a case about three or four years ago called the rope honest case and image Justice Scalia ruled it was a divided ruling -- affordable one.

And so I -- what kind of pipeline exploded a fifty year old pipeline.
With the new regulations applied of that pipeline you know.
And so I got him to get rid of the grand fathering in of all pipelines.
-- this -- going on for a long time in 1985 in Kentucky.
We had a fatal explosion of a gas pipeline.
In the recommendation -- the report was get rid of the grandfather clause but I finally got it done and -- so he you know you may have an image of being.
Libertarian -- government but that's really not true isn't where we might disagree is not.
-- we should have government but the degree to which we shouldn't governor gets to the extent and sometimes it's a disagreement on where we have it.
Libertarians tend to wanna have -- at the more at the state and local level and not as much at the federal level.
The other thing is is that the debate is a false dichotomy what happens is they say oh you don't when he rules on air pollution.
All I'm arguing -- of the current rules because what's happening is the other side is warning to increase the rules and I think that we've gotten to the point where.
The trade off may be lost jobs and we are they have rules I'm not arguing for no rules must -- but time I'm trying to argue for the current year.
Odds sometimes you -- fellow Republicans you and I agree and -- an out of my own fellow Democrats at times about for example the Patriot Act the fact this got renewed under this president.
Never should have happened in the first place and I don't believe it makes us safer him.
I got a question today I was interviewing -- Huntington post and they're like how can you support Romney 'cause he sports a Patriot Act.
And I didn't answered as well then that I was thinking of the answers that you know what.
President Obama oppose the Patriot Act but now he supports -- so how do Democrats support as Obama so it kind of goes both ways.
We all have what we would like to have for our candidates and sometimes we don't have.
Everything we want ball we support what we think is the closest to our ideal senator Rand Paul's our guest senator Kentucky government believes is his new book.

I do think -- debt turmoil is the when you do -- everybody needs to be eliminated the only limit the good guys which I consider myself to be.
Then the bad guys would dominate the place at -- I think we should have -- who has -- one of the first bills I introduced.
And I have about five or six co sponsors on your book tour is sizzling rather controversial for Republicans which is that the Republicans need to drop -- we need to mom everybody tomorrow.
Our policy did I say yeah you have NASA a better idea I think I do -- -- we ought to reject that -- -- What I think is is that it is a mistake for oral or anyone much less Republicans.
To appear to be reckless and rash about going to war I think it's a very serious.
Consideration we do go to war we shouldn't do -- without great forethought without great debate.
And I think sometimes we watch the presidential primaries other than a guy named Ron Paul.
Everybody wants to prove -- Obama more than you will less for liberals like me one or British you're dead and and then you perhaps as well in terms of really winning -- of these wars which have really run up toward deficit and a but it's -- both Republicans seem don't feel that yet but it's even changing even the Republican Party you remember about four or five years ago if you talked about a deadline or timeline for coming -- You were a coward.
You -- -- terrible American and he talked about a time line but now at all.

We kind of agree with President Obama that we shoes so that bicycling and fourteen and you think that's a good idea I'd say the sooner the better you say that the Republicans who would do better in New England for example with that attitude but skilling lay out of New Hampshire.

New Hampshire is maybe a little bit different part of doing that I mean we still as Republicans competitive in New Hampshire.
I think governor Romney will be competitive in New Hampshire.
But I would say Connecticut Vermont.
Delaware.
New York State were not as competitive and I think a less aggressive or more moderate foreign policy.
Would actually do as well we we we would gain some of the independent.

I would do the opposite I have a bill that I plan on.

And that bill would say no more money to -- Nazis released and we still have troops you know on the border we still have you know put people in harm's way.

And I think you're as recently whether Mitt Romney agrees of the UN that's -- could you support him on -- he's it's he's been specific if I haven't heard and I sort of answer is no -- -- answers that I hope he supports me on the TSA.
I think there's a lot of bipartisan support when I was detained it was the day the -- the day before the state of the union and as I walked into the house chambers.
A lot of Democrats were coming -- to me and Tora -- Bob and me and say.
You do you view I'm glad you did and I would like to do it but let's try to fix it several Democrats senators came into -- -- -- let's fix it.
Every frequent traveler in America comes at me and says let's do something about it what he wanted to.
I want to get rid of random pat downs and I wanna have a frequent flier program that -- frequently get right through it I'd also like to privatize it that.
The problem I have trouble getting Democrat votes on privatizing -- so I have two bills.
One for the ultimate cure which is privatization.
And I can't get that the other was -- TSA passenger bill of rights.
And it has no more random pat downs and allows for and mandates that the government ever frequent fire program in place within a year you find many of these issues you more common with Democrats -- many people in your own party.
I -- that I have things in common with both with fuel from both parties I'm proud of the fact that I do work you know like.
Trying to legalize industrial hamper on -- and I do that together -- trying to impose.
Expansion of -- You know investigations into American citizens Ron Wyden and I worked on that.
-- -- Oakley wide and I ain't sent a letter to the president encouraging him to continue coming home from Afghanistan.
Says there are issues that I have worked for the other side.
And at same time a -- so I think sometimes some very very.
Much with my party and not believing -- -- when you ran at first they for credit pagers or radical right.
Oh dad had accurate -- magazine at your party do it to a bomb activities -- -- yeah I think that the truth of the matter is when we have an intelligent conversation like I think we're having he find out more about a person and we're we're all more complicated and then a couple sentences what we're do you -- the party you know Indian do you think Romney and he's supported you've combatant in support of Mitt Romney do you.
Think he's gonna -- -- does he have really narrow path based on the electoral vote.
And he's really -- got a couple of states.
That he can afford to lose at this right.
And fortunes in the dynamic -- for about you know the last three year for presidential cycles he used to be California was -- -- we Ed Nixon and you know we had to have Pete Wilson we had Republicans out there.
In now California's not place it does make the electoral map harder but no I do think Romney can win I think it's going to be close.
I think is a tossup as everyone else believes I think the -- is a toss up also.
But I've been saying.
We need to embrace the Ron Paul Republicans the libertarian Republicans -- as.
It's our best.
Map forward to try to be competitive in new England and in way and they feared dead but he has not yet and or -- them on your right head of state I mean I mean I'm not an -- -- it ironic.
Yeah this is that's ever bona contention do you -- he ever talks stuff over like that and lord do you know whether there are always rumors of me being banished from India don't save -- -- event that happened so far there is there hasn't nobody's really try to push emotion at the -- -- No we get along great we don't agree on everything that my wife and I get along great we don't agree on -- -- treasures he's not -- -- now I'm not I I think that.
When live begins should be protected and wouldn't it be the libertarian position to be pro -- let's -- -- some libertarians yes some libertarians know because -- uses it for libertarians it's big this.
Whole idea of the nonaggression principle is that you shouldn't start aggression against other individuals in the states should restrain aggression.
So the real question is when does life begin because for example a one month old baby.
Everybody seems to agree that the state has a role in protecting that maybe from either abuse from anybody is there editorial board yet.
Ride but the question is when does life begin and that's where we don't all a dream.
The U see yourself as a potential candidate down the road for for president or tomorrow.
I don't know I can't not go -- and I would -- -- -- area that -- second.
I would say that I wanna be part of the national debate you know I think I am part of -- and you know years ago you were configured that when he ran like eight years ago and and -- -- Q I think it -- the conventions -- -- I think -- -- -- -- thought at that point of -- Fernando and I got a little more of -- thought as I went -- gave speeches from my -- enacted maybe present the message.

Jim Bunning was my senator from Kentucky.
And I've been giving speeches -- my dad gaining some self confidence giving speeches in front of crowds.
And then he -- about running -- and there was an open seat.
And it makes all the difference in the world I didn't -- -- run and a loss calls I want to run a really have a chance.
And so was something camp on the I miss practicing medicine and I still do a little bit but I miss practicing medicine do you think she Gary Johnson -- a viable candidate obviously libertarian party's -- and win the presidency but he -- he has that banner.
This year right and is -- is he had some of -- they had a good -- so it depends on how many as far as viability how many ballots he gets on its -- on the ballots.
The other thing -- hard about a third party candidate went and they'll ever get the breakthrough they want.
Is they don't get included in the debate essentially seeking in again Jamaican -- he realizes he a lot of he -- -- realizes the -- women -- used to control the debates.
But you know what the Republican Democrat.
Commission.
Took them away and the reason -- took -- ways because Ross Perot got in the -- he got 17% of the vote it scared the hell out of them.
And they said now where'd everybody is it harder for third party yes if you get to -- nobody thinks you're viable on -- show up on the same stage of the other candidates.
And so I don't see him getting in the debates and also and hold -- now but it's sort of a catch twenty but -- -- like his message.
A lot of the limited government message -- he's pro choice and I'm not so we disagree on that.
But there is deadly parts of the libertarian message.
But to my mind the best way for libertarian message to win is still through the Republican Party.
