This first topic everybody's going to pay attention because millions of us take.

Omega three or fish oil hoping it will protect against heart disease and mood and everything else.

And doctor -- there's a new study that suggests maybe not for everybody.

Well Jamie first of all I want to start off by saying that fish oil has.

Proven benefits we've been studying Omega three fatty acids for a really long time and we know that they help us with depression.

We know there's some evidence that help with a heart in fact there was a dramatic study back in 1989 where people after they had a heart attack.

Took a diet high in fish and literally had a 30% chance what less of dying over the next two years very dramatic stuff.

But the question everyone out there has is -- only eat a lot of fish -- -- portions of fish a week the way you docs recommend but what about the fish oil supplements.

And the problem there is there's no proof that the fish oil supplements as opposed to getting -- in your fish.

Is the way to go and it's a billion dollar industry one point one billion dollars were spent last year in the United States.

On fish oil supplements alone why this one point one billion dollars.

This the first time we're hearing that it isn't everything it's cracked up to -- -- -- is the FDA doesn't regulated or well look look let me tell you -- first of all this study is.

Pretty impressive that was done -- 60000 people they looked at twenty other studies.

And it's pretty convincing -- official does not cut down the supplements -- not cut down on your risk of heart attack stroke.

Or death I don't throw this out.

But the question is here's what they don't answer our people in this study -- -- fish -- to begin with are very high in fish oil you know are they eating a lot of fish.

You can't really answer that question so I would say since I actually use fish oil and people with high cholesterol I use it as a supplement for certain reasons.

For cholesterol specifically.

I'm not opposed to fish oil supplements but I want there to be a reason I don't want everyone on it I -- to know why you're on it and what's your reason I have some reasons and your recommendation.

So I think it's a great study -- it's in JAMA and -- and they're looking at 70000.

Patients.

So you don't just want to dismiss this and I'm actually glad that wants and -- we tested supplements because as you said they're not being regulated.

Having said that I think that you cannot throw every recommendations we've given in the last two decades.

Fish or as of today still helps with heart -- memory and everything else let me just put -- -- -- Omega three fatty acid is called essential fatty acid wide because we don't make them.

And we absolutely need them how are you going to get them mostly from salmon from tuna from sarbanes and everything else.

Twice a week of having salmon.

Should give you you know Omega three.

As a doctor would tell you that you know there are two reasons why you take supplements one is if you're not getting enough.

So just because somebody -- you have to have supplements you should not take it on a regular -- the other thing is supplements.

Are sort of drugs and medications and just because -- no prescriptions.

It doesn't mean that there it's going to figure entire system so you have to be careful.

The big message out there is what type of Omega three fatty yes it's we have I think that's the really big questions and are three types one is the edge today.

Remember the edge ahead.

The other one is EPA.

Doors of the good ones so if you want to get Omega three fatty -- look for DH AM EPA on the bottom because those are long chain.

On the go through fatty acids what I wanted to be concerned about is that he can interfere with.

-- -- We talked about this it can cause bleeding so too much of Omega three fatty -- official okay cause bleeding and he can increase your LDL or bad cholesterol now.

I want to also be able to know that -- prescription medications for this for treatment is specifically for triglycerides.

It's called -- -- But buzz as a prescription that mark and medical doctors right for it.

To treat triglycerides and there's another one that's coming up which is very exciting -- -- step up look for that -- -- bottom line I mean if you had if you taking them should you keep on taking -- and put it in generally recommend people do that well you know it's its support for doctors to be involved Eric if your doctor think you should be taking them maybe there's a medical -- one -- final point on DA chain EPA that David mentioned.

That official knows what's in fish so we know the good stuff is in that fatty fish that we're talking about the salmon and mackerel the -- did you get the good stuff there are right.

-- shall always veteran food then and supplements it's now possible rate actually do especially this girl.
