-- -- thousand former secretary of defense who's done quite a -- for this country many different jobs but now he's also known as the best selling off there.
His memoir known and unknown is -- got to be now out on paperback this Donald Rumsfeld welcome back to.
FOX & Friends.
Thank you very much.
Well I congratulate them the success of the book quality bring it to real life in real news and that is the series of attacks.
On at least twenty embassies -- -- the world US embassies.
All over this film does Donald Rumsfeld to -- and believe that this film is the cause of all this all this unrest.
It seems to me that that calling baseball -- basketball doesn't make it a basketball.
And and the idea that that they can contend that the anger and hostility we see from islamists.
-- in these twenty plus locations around the world.
Is a result of a film that nobody seen.
I think is is naive if they believe that and misleading if they don't so what is at then.
Well it clearly is there a reflection of the fact that in the world they are are.
Determined Islamist radical islamists who are hopeful they're able to impose a -- -- on the world.
And when you look at what they're doing and they -- up of American flags the attacks on western values it's very clear what they want to.
They want to achieve their goals of imposing their views on the rest of the world.
And and to pretend like they did -- the Fort Hood attack that it was.
Workplace violence or that this is the result of some sort of a film that nobody's seen it seems to me.
Is is is unfortunate end either naive or misleading.
Well mr.
secretary what do you make of the administration is really doubled down you know a couple of days ago they sent out the ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice and she said look.
It was spontaneous he -- It was all over this movie and and that's what led to the murder of our ambassador in yet what we've heard from the Intel sources is.
There was no demonstration.
Before the ambassador attack started so why.
Well I think it's hope I think there are hopeful that they can persuade the American people that that's the case.
But but the fact of the matter is it took place on the anniversary of September 11 the attack on the United States eleven years ago.
And sure to a certain extent.
There's a copy -- effect where people can see someone do something that they agree with and then -- Repeated somewhere else but but the reality is -- can't be that failed it has to be.
A -- something connected to September 11 and there's an investigation going on.
By the House Intelligence Committee and my impression is the chairman Rogers has been very.
Measured and thoughtful on this issue when there then that will soon know precisely what the facts are.
And my guess is they'll be quite embarrassing.
For the administration.
Yet at the -- and will be whether or not those results are known before Election Day because I didn't think that -- PD.
That that sort of a line in the sand.
Let me let me ask you about this because many people are saying that if President Obama is reelected that this foreign policy what many deem to be.
Appeasement at least in the Muslim world will continue as some of the names being thrown around of possible secretary of state replacements for Hillary Clinton.
Our ambassador rice we're just speaking out or Senator John Kerry what do you make of that.
Well you know I think it's probably.
Or early and I'm not a part of of the Obama administration I wouldn't be in -- position to.
Get to know what they're thinking but but the one thing that's important to remember it seems to me is that.
-- Dwight Eisenhower said you you have peace through strength.
And weakness is provocative to the extent the United States of America and the leadership here behaves in a way that reflects weakness.
It clearly will encourage and entice.
People around the world to engage in things that are harmful to our values harmful to our country and harmful to the American people.
And and it seems to me that.
It when you blend of the foreign policy approach of this administration.
It's one of -- -- and decline in weakness and you marry that with the mismanagement of our economy which is now sending out signals.
-- of weakness I think I think we simply have to approach it differently.
Well mr.
secretary we know that president Obama has come forward and said look at -- -- -- in my farm policy.
I left three are rock -- where do we finish the war in Iraq responsibly do you believe we got that Iraq responsibly.
The fact that the White House and the State Department could not even man.
After the effort that was put into Iraq and the fact that they've been.
Launched on on a pattern of a democratic constitution.
I think is is most unfortunate and I would say anyone who wants to chalk that up as a success is making a mistake -- -- Afghanistan.
Well we've we've seen what's going on there it's it's a terribly difficult situation and I'm woods.
Concerned about the attacks on our forces by.
Afghan people apparently the -- -- have been able to infiltrate these security forces to some extent and as a result.
It's made it quite dangerous for US forces to operate in close proximity to Afghan forces my guess is what they'll have to do with.
It is improve and strengthen their vetting system and until they've they've sorted that out they're gonna have to probably operate separately rather than jointly mr.
secretary.
In this -- that this a campaign to bumper sticker is.
GM.
Lives and -- Osama bin Laden.
Dies.
That to many is their hold foreign policy approach.
You know we got rid of that guy and so he's been really successful do you think the foreign policy approach.
Made sense.
No I don't I think that that to the extent.
We send signals around the world that we're in decline in that we can't manage our financial.
Matters properly -- that were engaged in a process that could end up.
Reducing our defense budgets by something close to a trillion dollars over the next decade.
The signal it goes out is one of weakness it's a lack of leadership and I leadership vacuum it's gonna be filled by others and the others are not going to be people who are gonna favor the United States or -- are going to favor our values.
-- Donald Rumsfeld the former secretary of defense.
Of course his memoir comes out on paperback hard to believe how fast time goes by -- mr.
secretary were just tear when the book came out.
It's -- entitled known and all unknown all proceeds still going to veterans.
Charities.
-- -- against secretary have a great day.
