Recording that has caused a bit of a media firestorm governor Mitt Romney saying that almost half of the voters in America.

Depend on the government for a check and those voters are in the president's corner not -- -- -- -- -- -- Period.

I don't.

Americans occasionally.

And low.

You -- get excited about.

So those comments recorded four months ago in Florida Democrats pouncing on -- but the governor standing by what he said.

At an impromptu news conference last night.

This is ultimately -- a question about direction for the country do you believe any government centered society to provides more more benefits.

Or do you believe instead in a free enterprise society where people are able to pursue their dreams I believe the latter will help more people get good jobs.

This is a campaign fundamentally about how to help the middle class in America.

And how to bring people out of poverty into the middle class.

And we've seen the results of the last 34 years.

And it has not worked -- What about all this now -- shown Fox's contributor former advisor to Bill Clinton Doug good morning to you morning -- from the national review John fund John good morning to you as well.

John how big of a deal.

Well it will be a big deal because the media will play this up dramatically.

I don't think it's going to change many voters but I think it will be an enormous base.

Driver of the Democrats are gonna remind everyone in their base.

Mitt Romney.

-- them.

Called -- victims and I think that this will be issued this will this impact -- shown up probably the -- before the election.

-- Guy I'd have to disagree with my friend John I think -- 61%.

Of those who are not paying income tax paying payroll tax at 15% which is higher than the -- governor.

Romney pays and another 22%.

Receiving.

Benefits as seniors these are not victims these are hard working decent Americans.

And for the governor to see America.

In two worlds and to not recognize that we are one people or aspirations -- -- desire to uplift ourselves I think is profoundly wrong.

Bad on the merits bad politics and profoundly miss reads people's that's where -- He went on to explain last night is that is that the question is he recalls -- deals with the process the campaign.

And where where voters are -- right now not to the larger point.

About those getting government assistance this of what we 549%.

Of Americans.

Lived in a household where someone was receiving benefits from at least one federal program.

32 million households had at least one person receiving a means tested government benefit.

The poverty rate the US is increase for five straight years the number of Americans on food stamps is nearly tripled over the past.

Decade those are telling numbers are -- not John.

Yes and look Mitt Romney can say something that is true but also -- stupid.

And this was what we've stupid you don't want to divide people -- camps that's why I think.

He's going to that the Obama people are going to use this to try to drive their base to the polls thank Mitt Romney has -- you.

I do believe that and a fundamental issue we do have a problem in this country because if we will end up having more people in the wagon of the economy.

Then people pulling the wagon of the economy that creates a problem that's where we end up with European.

Social democracy and that's when our economy starts slowing down and we stopped being able to meet the American as personal standards that Doug talked about done.

Oh I agree with what John is now saying the problem on both sides in the campaign bill.

Is that neither Obama nor Romney is talking about what John was just reference -- which is how do we lift people up I think it's right reasonable.

And important for our society to -- -- more benefits during tough times but the question is not can we offer more benefits but how do we -- People up all people you don't divide people and you don't do it on class base if you're governor Romney and you don't do it about as President Obama is done.

Just tax the Rich Little -- -- -- this news cycle lasts about ninety minutes and something else pops up well this this one I don't think it's good to go away why John is because it is so divisive.

It's so blunt and it is frankly so hurt but -- -- arguing is that this six to 10% of the people haven't made up their mind.

There are the ones to decide the election that was the larger point it was -- well but but there's more than that pollsters know.

That when you have 6% undecided there's another 10% that is so -- decided but -- that can move and bottom line when you divide people as.

Bluntly as he did I think you do damage to your -- -- -- the last word on that.

You certainly can't.

Swing too many undecided voters but you can.

Convince people that the candidate who's made this kind of statement can if somebody you have to turn out vote against in other words this could drive up turnout.

And John thank you Doug thanks -- was well they'll thank you gentlemen both thanks eighteen minutes.
