But it it's a message.

Medicare and continues to carry which is like that the president's approach is attractive to people who are not paying taxes because frankly might.

The discussion about lowering taxes is and has attracted to them and therefore -- Likely to draw them in them I campaign as effectively as those who were in the middle.

Stating an obvious truth.

That was Mitt Romney Republican presidential nominee.

And this is power play and I -- Chris -- And nobody's disputing the facts of what governor Romney was explaining there and -- hastily arranged late night press conference in California.

Which has to -- with the video that was released by mother Jones which is liberal website magazine.

In which Romney talking to a bunch of donors back in May.

Said you know what for the 47% of Americans who don't pay federal income taxes.

I'm probably not gonna get their votes I'm definitely not letting him get their votes because the central pitch.

In his campaign.

Is that he wants to lower income taxes and reduce spending that wouldn't be good if you -- already paying income taxes.

And you were recipient of federal benefits.

-- is gonna -- it's certainly roiling the political discussion and when the political discussion -- royal we turn to Bob Cusack.

Who is our friend he is our managing editor.

At the hill you should follow him at Bob Cusack because -- -- wise and you should read about it though after you're done watching the show reading everything coxnews dot com.

And Bob is with us even though.

He's still smarting.

From Sunday's game in which -- Pittsburgh Steelers delivered an 8888.

Mighty blow to -- New York Jets -- -- -- it says its approach it's a process where one and one so.

So so there -- lots -- the Steelers the -- right so here's the question.

Bloomberg had the most hilariously awesome.

Fantastic headline it was it was beyond security I thought it was -- the day that Mitt Romney -- feel like this election is over.

That didn't know but don't even bother having the next seven weeks.

For Romney how he deals with this.

Will be a make or break moment perhaps because this is not death blow right.

Now I mean you -- the debate shift three -- based on it including the Paul Ryan vs Biden debate.

Clearly there are some Republicans this morning -- a little dejected disappointed because Romney if he has slipped in the polls and battleground states and -- either.

A lot of people think that the Democrats had a slightly better convention -- the Republicans but.

Ulyetza have a long way to go -- we have a little bit less than fifty days.

It's not over yet but -- Romney has to deal with -- he's got beat out front he's got to have shining moments big moments unit spotlights on him the spotlight was on him.

You know last night and today so he's got -- deal with this very effectively and and that's that's -- Question so last night there were flashes and -- I guess I have to say that's.

If the Mitt Romney who you saw in the leaked video was the Mitt Romney who was on the campaign trail -- suspect he would be doing better he was speaking.

Very clearly very late he was owning what he was doing and then he came out in the press conference and sometimes he sounded like that Baghdad.

Why not if -- Romney.

Come out at that press conference and say yes everything I said is true not a word of it instead he seemed like he was apologizing but he was also doubling down.

Yet and that's the problem I think that was part of it that it ended in the -- he had that there was a feeling is very clear there you know not trying to.

Don't let told the delicate line but but then as you mentioned Dana and in the press conference and in other.

Public venues he he does that thing where he looks little awkward too busy apologizing -- is not apologizing.

And I think you just gotta be forceful and he's got a.

He's -- let's put it all on the line right now I mean he is the underdog in this race but it is still winnable but he he's gonna have to get this game.

Well I it's almost as if dumps it -- -- -- today's Paraguay.

Which you can get Internet simply for the cost of a Twitter follow acts he start well at these are all I would love to have you would -- to post you.

There on the twitters and what I wrote here.

Is that for Romney he showed this boldness when he picked -- right.

Jason and they said bold and they use the word bold more times man and a non peanut commercial it was like we are bold these are bold and spicy.

And it was pretty intense.

Then they had the convention -- and what you saw at the convention was not -- Which you sought the Republican convention on display was.

Hey moderate moms.

In Chile copy Ohio we love you -- -- moderate moms and suburban Pittsburgh we are.

We are nice guys were really really nice guys and you saw Ryan sort of drift off the center -- yes.

That this is a very bold statement that Mitt Romney's got if he doesn't stick with this this time.

Then he's got total message confusion.

Yeah I think so I mean -- that is that what Republicans are upset about is that they don't receive different type of campaign post Ryan we sought for a few days and then.

You're not hearing that much from Ryan anymore you know some some officers want Ryan to be out there.

Because he's -- very good spokesperson even more than he is now itself.

I think that -- -- -- next -- what you can't run the ball and expect to become president you death -- what you -- -- especially gonna go against an incumbent.

You've got to take some chances and they are taking chances -- of -- I don't think you I think you're underestimating I think you must not watch the mountaineers play this weekend as you can run to -- big victories.

The -- the question now is so if -- Romney.

You have this comes at.

A complicated moment for the campaign at the same time -- -- to the story of the day yesterday.

In.

But across the establishment press at least was.

That Romney campaign in disarray.

Their melting down this is total disarray and then this comes out.

And it's like the cherry on top of this Sunday and as you look across the media world.

That you see all of this he's done he's done he's done.

Does being.

Sort of written offer dead.

Is that is there -- an upside in that that says.

We got nothing to lose let's let it rip the hand -- as you point me to get John McCain for years ago that the Republican primary but he didn't win you know -- the primary OK you won the primary that's right yeah.

But Elaine you know letting -- going for it what I really haven't seen that from not Romney there have been times so when he stepped up like in the Florida debate against looking to keep the -- Gingrich snapped it right after he did it once after -- whip him he's got to have those moments inconsistent moments from -- -- Rick -- cowboy hat off a couple times yet not -- and and Democrats mean there's -- danger and you know if -- six.

Things can change so so rapidly and and Dana some Democrats concerned that there eradicate payment that little bit overconfident and certainly with the media coverage you could see him getting maybe a little over I'm confident that's when you make mistakes.

Oh yeah that I believe it was a Bill Burton who runs the super -- that the president has endorsed.

That said that some weird tweet today that was like channeling Robert Frost my you know it.

Romney's melting down but -- miles and miles to go.

Before you can sleep -- encouraging donors to keep giving and Democrats to continue attacking Romney.

But -- by and large this is.

This is a decisive moment for the -- campaign and whatever else it is this is it that as Ronald Reagan once at a time purchase.

You know it's I think it's a pivotal week for Romney to see how it goes -- -- next week I mean he's he stumbled recently.

But he he could get up but he you know that's what campaigns are all about you're gonna get not dad what how do you respond just like like you've got to get up.

Get -- back on the horse and take it to the president.

And here but seriously the debates and he's gonna have to win at least two of those three debates may be off.

It's it's a pretty big deal it's over you Bob Cusack we thank him for making time for isn't it better luck when you're not playing the Steelers.

Best.

-- -- -- And I'm getting it wrong I'm sure says I'm glad -- finally said what many others have been saying and thinking it's an obvious truth about people with the entitlement mentality.

And -- typical political affiliations but too often the politicians.

Are afraid to say anything about it there is a vote for boldness okay.

We will be back we will talk more about whether.

Romney's double can be turned into a positive or whether it's destined to be a negative.

-- we will talk more about that we'll talk about the ongoing unrest across the Muslim world.

And we will also see the filmmakers behind the controversial.

Film it's going to be airing on some television sets here you about the presidential election we're gonna do all that so stick around.

And that is a look at the ongoing.

Perhaps -- -- a bit but ongoing protests against the United States of America.

And promote the men out there.

And this is power play and welcome back so the protests have continued.

And here's something we found out.

People are paying attention this is so far according to a new pew study that was out the most watched.

Florida -- event.

Of the year.

This has gotten people to dial in more than anything else guess there's been a lot of coverage but also when American interests are at stake.

And such a big swath of the world is so angry at us people are paying attention.

How does this portend for President Obama and Mitt Romney.

We have two very Smart people who can tell you just exactly that.

You know red like man you look -- bread like menus if former advisor.

To bush.

The elder and bush the younger he is a Republican of great Republican us.

And he is also a professor at the Georgetown University -- -- us.

And because no deputies -- of the big east I can say that.

And Debbie dingle who is a democratic strategist yeah she is the Helms woman of out -- wife.

The dean of the United States house Democrat Jon -- from Michigan okay.

So.

And -- do want to get both of your takes on the Romney saying the 47 person we are the 47%.

But first let's talk about this.

When a for an event intrudes into up -- the political year.

You see daddy that Mitt Romney's response to it didn't get -- as well as the president.

What does Romney need to do differently in order to make this.

He's got a staff who think experience as a Christian I have to say that I up until last -- -- -- -- have always said I think it's going to be very close race I think it's very competitive.

I was stunt.

And how well he did not handle last week.

And you have an American ambassador -- to -- we are Americans first Republicans and Democrats second he failed to act like that.

So -- -- -- -- long what does he do match.

He's gonna start to show that he can handle international forward.

Crisis is and he's not done today I think through Christ our bread something we've talked about here before is that when you look in the universe of foreign policy people around -- Condoleezza Rice -- and here in there but the team the foreign policy team is not what a lot of Republicans expected to -- You know Romney -- cart media -- today and he's being given to give them the UN GA is happening in New -- The president speak here who also have bilateral -- with foreign leaders probably should be in New York during the UN GA.

-- the general assembly -- he should give a thoughtful speech and another venue perhaps -- our relations and he should be seen with world leaders to -- bilateral us.

The fact of the matter is we have a perfect opportunity now foreign policy is part of this election cycle.

What we're seeing in the Middle East is not going to go way in the next fifty days.

And for the debates Ron we have to have something contemporaneous to point to.

Regard to foreign relations I gave a speech last week and he right now as ours that when I don't think I'm meeting with -- -- -- right.

You know you have to be able to communicate a strategy and you have to be.

A persuasive -- have to be the leader and this is from each time to lead if he's if he's seen an Iowa.

While the presence in New York speaking on foreign policy there's going to be huge disconnect.

Not that there's anything wrong -- -- Iowa Jasper county specifically which we saw last night on special report.

Unless we didn't -- it in their first in the nation status next hole -- -- what else do you expect -- get to the pizza limited food and Iowa and I'm so it's freezing day in the states it's now if Michigan's -- look at it this way Michigan was the first in the nation everybody would get a free car that would be the that would be the whole thing -- get a new -- OK so.

Let's move on because I have Smart people here so -- to get your take on this.

For Romney's 47% comments that we're talking about the previous segment.

This is Greg -- Chris exactly right he should have owned it and what I was saying was that Romney.

-- -- a little bit last night -- but he didn't.

He didn't bear hug it should he bear hug or should he be more tepid.

I think he's got -- to think before he speaks.

I think that.

A lot of people.

Probably found some of those comments offensive I.

I think comments that he expressed Ers are some that I had a lot of real conversations with people in Michigan prison or in other midwest states talking about -- -- -- I hit.

I think he's got to be careful he can't totally on that because there are people.

That -- government assistance from time to time in heat in the later spoke about it to me did in nineteen racist that he shows no understanding of what.

This countries like the other real raw feelings there about how everybody deserves equal opportunity but how do you make people finally get them.

How do you energized people to really want -- worker to take advantage but there is a safety net but not be dependent -- time.

It's it's it's complicated -- what's your -- loved Rummy stated the obvious this is a big selection.

The presence like we -- 47%.

-- is likely get where he's ever since we're fighting over 6% of independents battleground states he said it do you remember who set -- to.

It was it -- -- it was it was a fund raiser right there were people who -- sophisticated this -- a rally speech this was the nuts and bolts how do you get from point a to point B.

The fact of the matter is when he's the president on the states he is the president of the of the 47% right and that he needs to explain that.

And say look I meant what I said I'm not gonna get a -- erode the president's the president -- mind right and I was stating a fact.

And -- -- that he had to be bold and indecisive on that and then he couldn't that -- -- point he needed to massage.

The -- the comment with regard to assistance yeah.

OK so Debbie this question four.

Republicans.

Their concern is that you get to a tipping point that where there are not enough people paying it.

And as you say.

The Republicans always run the risk of seeming to demonize the seeming to be.

I know this is not cool but the un Christian acting about this that they do not have sympathy for those in need.

It's -- Romney because he's so rich let's -- it makes it harder what does he need to do going forward.

About.

Embracing but commuting as you said some of that.

He's got their chances I think that he has it when you're -- for president got filter everything except what I think that he is starting to get into really serious trouble.

About not feel treat what he says where he says it because when he ran for president nothing you say in any -- is ever going to be.

I -- a secret I.

I look at the discussion that he had -- had with my neighbor in Michigan on Sunday in my truck -- who actually was a single mother who needed help.

When it earlier but now she we -- the fact that she's got a job and she's.

Pay taxes and she sees the others that don't she's got a lot more credibility having that discussion.

Then we're running catch in the demeaning way that he -- those comments -- couldn't make anybody.

-- -- have credibility with the people that have a legitimate need and how do you guarantee equal opportunity -- everybody.

So something I've I've pointed out to get -- implement that shamelessly plug the power play again today is on the road today than in 2008.

In the democratic primaries -- Barack Obama was about -- get walloped in Pennsylvania.

He was going to a group of donors and got overheard talking about the bitter cleaners.

Racist Xena folks and he was saying about they were Pennsylvania voters are Pennsylvania.

The I was saying about them.

To his donors.

Look you have to be patient with them they can't help being these backward -- phobic gun clinging -- state so be patient with them and I'm going to convince them in time.

So that's bad but in Romney's case.

He doesn't he he's already saying he's not gonna get the votes these people these are not votes he's -- it right.

Yeah I mean and it would appeal wasted after that he did.

Use resources to get that to erode the equities have presented him ever get.

So the fact is he stated the obvious.

He should embrace that which he said because it is obvious this truthful he -- it massaged that when he was talking about.

Assistance obviously there -- a lot of Americans who can avoid.

The assistance.

At this time because that the economic problems.

Having said that this president has made people depend on government.

The city getting them a job he's made independent of government services so there's a there's a fundamental difference in philosophy.

As to what Romney believes is better for the people than what this president believes is better.

You know you know what I like Internet -- like having -- conversations with decent patriotic people who love their country and are kind to each other so that's why I enjoyed that talk so much.

-- Brad thank you so much for making time for us when we come back.

You've heard a little something about this Citizens United they had a little Supreme Court case I don't know if you remember that that sort of revolutionized the way.

That elections are funded and operated -- will have the guys from Citizens United here to talk about that and also what's coming to a TV screen near you -- stick around.

For the financial future for both of my children and they're going to be living their prices.

And it's a big concern of mine it's a fear that that I love what.

I'm concerned about the future of this country and concern for -- grandson and missing from my children.

I just think if we keep on going -- can offer glowing review your -- will only already hour.

And that is not the trailer for a monster movie that is in fact.

Movie called the hoping the change.

That was made by a group called Citizens United.

Most famous in fact for the landmark Supreme Court decision that change the way we operate our political system all the way.

And this power play welcome back and welcome to the man of Citizens United and this is very easy -- -- -- to tell them apart.

Because here's why.

This is David bossy and he is the president Citizens United -- he has short haircut.

-- wearing a reptiles.

And a dark suit.

And then this is Steve -- was the director of that movie that you just saw a little bit out and he has long hair -- beard and he's not wearing a taxi to not you you will be able to keep track of this very easily as you guys talk welcome.

To the big show things unless things -- okay so.

Tell us about first of all.

You're doing something that I don't think anybody's ever done before this is an independent expenditure group this is they're doing their -- -- they're not affiliated with any campaign.

And there are issues -- in a group.

And you're going on television tell me more.

Well first well it's not -- independent expect it's not as that is because that's if it was political speech when I went to the supreme court for -- it was to -- -- in -- right -- have to fight for my First Amendment right.

To gain was called the media exemption the same thing fox has or.

Other networks prepare Paramount Paramount.

Lionsgate the people who made Fahrenheit nine -- -- right OK isn't a perfect example people understand.

Fahrenheit 9/11 they sought a lot of people -- more people saw the TV ads for for and I let it right then saw the movie.

But -- but he he was a very impact full film came out during the election cycle of 2004.

And so we wanted to be able to do the same thing with the Federal Election Commission said no no.

You're not Sony your line -- they weren't trying to make egg well we're we're a political organization therefore you don't have the same right as the Washington Post and New York Times.

And I decided then that.

We should have those cigarettes because there shouldn't be protected classes of speech that the founding fathers fought.

Very hard for the First Amendment free speech and under the First Amendment.

Political speech was the most protected and I felt that we had a good case clearly.

That was born out in our in our case.

-- -- and President Obama like that a little love making this film and mark is -- -- -- we go down to that yet.

How you lay out the -- where -- this airing.

American people see it easily hit a shooting a movie -- -- -- 7 o'clock to morning at 7 o'clock that this is the biggest role political film efforts going to be on.

Five cable networks.

On -- broadcast network that's just announced today -- -- -- broadcast network.

Yes sir we have five cities one of the cable lefties actually licensed the film for five of their broadcast networks as well.

One of them in Colorado Springs -- and other so Wednesday yet -- so we're really excited that this is the film.

We hope will begin a conversation.

You'll -- -- conversational amongst.

The Democrats and independents.

That supported this film to go back to that to the original question.

Which is that the makeup of this -- We spent a year we hired -- Dell and -- Stewart to -- what was well known Democrat.

Pollsters.

And strategists and they helped us find these people so we went out and did focus -- -- out of risk for battleground states across the country over the many many months.

And an -- Whittled it down we -- we talked to thousands of people interviewed hundreds.

And ended up with forty people in this room every voice in this film is a Democrat or independent and every one of them voted for and -- and and there's not a Republican not a conservative voice not a team member of Tea Party.

It is simply.

Open viewpoint of Democrats and independents who are much more in sorrow than in anger.

Not supporting Obama right now.

-- -- regret is the I was setting up so.

So the question Steve.

It had to make forty people expressing high minded regret interest and that sounds kind of.

No it's actually quite moving it to -- -- because it's so much of what we do one on AM radio and TV and on the Internet is kind of that the pro wrestling.

Of the country's crisis and here you see here you can hear -- hear you see the American people totally honest again.

You get to hear -- that tea they're living in this crisis and what she hears trepidation fear.

You know a little bit of anger but really this angst and anxiety that's out there anxiety for the chilled Chile's and it just cuts through image the clip you just played -- mean that -- when we first are -- to meet you guys in new York and in the political class.

They're going.

These guys had to be script that's it I'm not tons unrehearsed -- didn't have the questions in advance.

To speak from their heart and I think quite frankly that's one reason the Obama campaign and other people or sand.

We don't know if we have an answer this film because this is Obama supporters.

Who they need to get to the point.

It's -- -- -- that answers so far on this issue of are you better off.

Bit because basically that's what you're talking about you voted for Obama country selected Obama.

All but you might this number misinformed about 47% of the country didn't vote for Obama.

But -- of the electorate didn't vote for Obama but.

The the answer basically from Democrats has been you're right.

Times are tough and the nation's problems are very very deep very very deep showed deep in fact that I need four more years in order to turn it around.

-- in what I think you you're through watching this film and I urge everybody.

To go to war web -- that opened the change to watch the trailer you can read about the cast you can really learn a lot about the film there.

As well as find out where it's going to be playing on television in your home.

With this this is this is an important film.

-- goes to the heart of where we are is America as America and -- Americans I think that they want a better nation they want something.

They're hopeful.

And they still had.

Hope -- they bought into Barack Obama's hope in 2008.

And I really think their disappointment that's really the key word here is.

We can't afford four more years of this let alone let's give them another four because we haven't seen it looked.

More people are on welfare food stamps the unemployment rate is still astronomical we have huge problems.

We have we're in a crisis we're headed to a cliff in what I think they're saying.

It through this film.

Very powerful.

Is that we.

Need to have someone in there who can bring about.

Public policy that is going to enable all Americans to succeed not just a small was.

Even wearing the -- -- he gets to talk last I'm sorry thank you for both coming in today and sharing this with us OK we have to go.

We're sad that we have to go but we're happy to tell you that -- -- -- -- Jonathan Hunt is up next waiting for you and especially glad to tell you this and now as we like to do every day.

We want to leave you with the word from our friend Charles.

And the reason the administration is hanging on to this preposterous.

Explanation and it's all about.

These obscure -- film that may not even exist.

Is because they can't face the larger fact.

That this is an expression.

Both in the polls and in the rise in the demonstrations.

Of the collapse of Obama's Cairo Duncan's speech he made the fourth of June.

2009 and -- -- proclaimed a new beginning in relations with Islam.
