Union delegates for Chicago teachers moments ago announced they have suspended their now nine day old strike.

As you know teachers' representatives have been pushing the city to meet certain demands.

Among them they didn't want salaries tied to performance evaluations and they want guarantees about job security.

-- mayor -- Rahm Emanuel called the strike illegal and asked to judge to force the teachers to go back to work.

All the details of the new contract have yet to be hammered out we're told but it does appear there's at least some agreement on both sides so the teachers will go back to work.

As the union prepares for a final vote in the coming weeks in the kids will -- school.

Steve Brown is live in Chicago for us tonight Steve teachers say a lopsided decision in favor of ending the strike yes.

They did that's the discussion we -- from folks that were filing out of the union hall you see behind me many of them would wide smiles on their faces.
