It all began -- a hot August afternoon in the parking lot of valley fair amusement park in day when it hit 86 degrees.

And when witnesses called police to say they saw a child climb in the trunk of a Lexus sedan with two adult women watching.

Then with two other kids in the back seat of the car they drove off.

In the criminal complaint out of Scott county detailing a single gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment against 38 year old Susan McCarty.
