Christian -- he is an award winning makeup artist and character designer Christian I was I was not expecting a buff -- I was you know sometimes -- you think about Hollywood makeup people you think you know some of the guys that I've known her.
You know.
They like to Wear their make up but everything -- sort of more into creating things -- actually really -- kind of changed the face.
Of make up artistry with adult explain.
Wow well first thank you for all those lovely complements.
Change the face of the -- you know that's a that's a heavy compliment.
Thank you again.
You know I just -- go to work like everybody else every single day I just happen to love my job and I -- to be very creative with that which is sort of a bonus.
I work with a lot of creative people that.
Give inspiration.
And have an amazing imagination and I get a play off of that so it's it's a wonderful playground really you or help me do my job better.
You were working with Michael Bay you -- working on the film Pearl Harbor.
And as direct your viewers fired -- develop.
A temporary tattoo and it's sort of it's certain.
Bit basically taken on a life of its own and really become a staple of the business tell me about it.
Yeah well you know that was so many years ago now but it it kind of feels like yesterday just because I'm always reminded -- the fact of what we sort of created on their.
You know everything I do is is sort of based out of necessity.
As much as I love my job I like to make my job easier I think like everybody else so.
When we are doing Michael Bay's film Pearl Harbor of course there was hundreds of extras as well as the lead cast.
We at a very small crew make -- artist.
And it was one of those situations where I wanted to create a way of keeping continuity on -- day to day basis over the six months of shooting right and that's really where the idea of taken a tattoo and turning it into a makeup application.
Kind of was born.
And you know I took an old technology and sort of reinvented it really that's that's where it came from.
For the lay people out there who are not Hollywood insiders wondered what they're watching the the Academy Awards the Oscars.
-- here you know the Oscar for makeup.
So I think David icky accuses them isn't it Derek they're taking doesn't -- that the -- that the one and looked prettier than she normally does.
I mean it's it's a lot more extensive -- it got Oscar explain a little bit to the -- about what an Oscar for -- -- is all about.
Sure sure well I mean you know the the Oscar for make up for any category really for that matter is.
Sort of it's supposed to be given for exceptional work done in that field.
And of course when people think of make up and they think of exceptional work they're usually thinking monsters transformation right.
Character developments that you you know you don't normally see.
They're not thinking lipstick and I think in period make up red lips and you know and and smoky eye shadow.
So it's usually given to those and we often find that it's given that awards given to those.
Who have created a character that's above and beyond what the actor normally looks like.
That's why you see movies like nutty professor man.
He -- Wolf man in and movies like this often win the award.
You know I was fortunate enough to be a part of the film passion of the Christ as -- nominated.
Oscar nomination.
And that one really had nothing to do with that but we were building and character and we were sort of developing new ideas have never been seen on film and I think that's why.
That nomination was granted really what is been your favorite character and what's what what what's your proudest moment.
Wow that's you know girls they all have something special you know obviously I think I don't know -- your favorite interview I still can't answer that question.
-- you can't you know every project every film every director every actor every situation has its.
Has its has its.
Wonderful sort of benefits I would say some of the most fun characters I've created that have been.
Recognized by the public as being interest in characters was and punching or which was Javier Bardem yeah -- man.
That was just it was one of those characters that you created you have a lot of fun doing so you knew it was interest thing.
-- also remember when we are doing that film.
The Cohen Brothers the actors to cast the crew we all thought it was going to be a massive failure it was one of those movies that you thought.
-- no one's gonna go see this movie fresh and and then it ends up being one of the most you know.
Well received movies -- of -- time real you we worked on so many thought that American horror story.
I think good god and our salary.
You have -- the others always gossip about America.
And especially this year you know seventeen nominations it's historical four an episodic TV show which is fantastic.
I'm just happy to be a part of it Ryan Murphy who is the creator and the developer very along with -- -- Eric -- -- ones that make -- department where -- was very closely with.
And then of course the rest of the crew or just an extreme it's an immense talent.
And so when you walk into those rooms in -- having those creative meetings about what your building -- what the next episodes are.
It's it's like a kid in the candy store you're just waiting to unwrap the next piece of candy because it's you know it's -- takes -- And somebody that you're saying the next -- of candy meantime we're showing we're showing these images of bodies being like him ripped a -- top blood coming out of people's faces.
That's it's really just think the topic you please come back and let us know -- state -- took us let us know if you have any other stuff on the pipe because we this is.
We like to discern different things on the show and it's it was very interesting interview.
