He said he can't change Washington from inside.
You can only change of an outside what we're gonna get that chance in November -- And that was the back and forth between President Obama talking to Jorge Ramos -- -- -- young it is candidate former appearance.
-- that Spanish language network yesterday and Mitt Romney you -- always tell Mitt Romney's very excited because he gets that sort of high pitched yelling this in his voice.
Was very excited about what President Obama had to say.
And this is power -- and I'm -- are well and happy Friday to -- Internet it is a delight to have you with us here in studio three in the Washington bureau.
Of the Fox News Channel.
And this discussion about how you change Washington from -- Washington is changed to is to blame for Washington not being adequately changed.
It's Federer etc.
etc.
Is in many ways -- overlay for this whole election it's sort of what we're talking about Americans think that the way we do it now.
Personally that the way that it's done in Washington.
Stinks and neither candidate neither the outsider who's never served in Washington.
Nor the incumbent.
Who has been here since 2007.
Is -- 2005.
Is really able to capture this debate right now.
We will talk about that we will talk about the evolving.
Strangeness.
About what exactly happened in Libya what's going on -- US outposts around the world -- -- of western nations all around the Muslim world.
That's a big deal congressman Randy Forbes from Virginia.
Who knows about this stuff from his time.
On the armed services committee will be here and also we will have a fantastic panel -- fantastic panel including your very favorite.
At the bell will do all those things but we will not do them before we talked to David Drucker.
Who you should be reading I hope you are reading.
At roll call but if you follow him at David M -- he is a high quality Tweeter Tweeter -- high quality.
Welcome back.
Good to be here thank you -- say that now to say that now rules I always say that in the beginning at any to have walking -- -- Like why do I keep coming back to this show that this is among the politicians doubling down on -- -- that's.
And you know what they're doing to get this is why we like -- so much because -- -- Mitt Romney with the 47%.
Thingy was like yeah 47%.
And their bombs but -- -- represented an album now be bounds of I wanna make them part of a 100% of not bombs.
Barack Obama who said you can't change Washington from the inside.
Said -- what I meant was that you can't change Washington and let's rip people outside of Washington -- helping you to change Washington.
-- you know first that of the four.
Words politician never wants to utter.
What I meant well so it would but I wouldn't what what the president meant to say bad -- and with the existence of Twitter right.
Who never fails to inform us that a politician is doubling down on his death -- that's another very popular he likes this stuff.
In a sense.
Goes away quickly but until it does until it quick getaway happens it's just everywhere well I'd I'd I'd say that's.
For Romney's part he needs to get back onto an offensive posture vis -- looks like he has started to do that over the last 24.
To 36 hours that's important for him to remain in contention in this race which I asked you think he is.
The president.
Although -- the president innocence is doing so well.
Doesn't have.
A lot of margin for error in my view in other words.
Given the economic fundamentals.
In and where the president's you know approval and handling of the economy has been.
Stock anytime he helps Mitt Romney out.
It's it's not a happy you know it's not a happy moment for him.
And so I think that you know if if the Romney campaign ever gets around to taking advantage of the race that they have.
These kinds of statements come piled all together.
You could cause the president a problem but but as as we've seen with with.
Misstatements -- -- elegant statement -- everyone to calm on either side Nolan is necessarily fatal and that's true of both.
What Mitt Romney said five months ago that we just found out about and it's what it's true what the president said yesterday.
First thing I want it argues that the Internet -- suit today.
Internet is responding favorably to yours -- situation it's all I can break up three -- again he's ready to let it happen Internet and you are the beneficiary.
But the indulge me if you will sleep well I get a little weird sort I wrote today in my -- which you can have if you follow me on Twitter -- start -- it's free it's easy it's right there it'll come into your phone and everything you'll love it.
But the and I'm -- start well.
And -- today was.
For the president talking about.
Outside change and convincing the nation to help him change Washington.
Is very reminiscent of something that he said on several occasions before when asked what was the biggest mistake that you -- He said on one occasion I failed to tell a story that brought Americans to understand everything he said not convinced focusing too much on policy.
And not enough on politics I call that at the time the Michael Scott.
The -- from the office.
Do I have a weakness I try too hard I care too much I'm just -- decent human being.
The for the president.
That hasn't actually we've heard a lot of complaints from democratic activists over the years less so once he's in the general election.
But that he doesn't actually do it grassroots organization there is a top down element to the way the president has run his campaign.
And run the stuff like health -- and everything else he tried to convince people to go where he wanted them to go instead of reflecting what the movement he was leading one.
Yeah look Chris I I think that it anytime I hear a Republican.
Or Democrat.
Elected to any office telling me that their problem is they didn't tell a story -- communicate forcefully enough yes.
Basically means nobody agrees with you right.
You just can't.
Belief that -- wants.
Right and hear your supporters don't -- -- believe it because they believe in you or they don't wanna just out -- me publically which is damaging that nobody like you and we and your policies.
And you ask his Republicans a good example being the Iraq War especially the search for the Bush Administration which they went ahead and did.
It may have worked but at the moment the public was definitely not down right the idea don't look.
I will say that it is true that if you don't have a good communication strategy and don't take your case the country if -- the president.
You might not win on any issue you can win on but I think that it I think objectively we can say -- for -- with Health Care Reform.
With.
This stimulus package that Obama.
Was able to sign in the lawsuit after being elected.
The issue was not communications and he gave it a lot of speeches he gave extra addresses to joint sessions of sessions of congress.
A majority.
Of the voters did not like what he did or decided.
Ultimately in the case of the stimulus that it didn't work right and so I think that.
For him to decide if that was his problem I don't.
Just think is an accurate reflection of what happened that many feel good and it's probably that it's probably a better answer than telling Steve croft or somebody else that an -- -- -- me.
-- -- And how that -- around us that guy you know I'm good man I'm Ronnie had a bomb I have to say it I'm 88 -- you know this is we we talk about -- that you know -- -- a member of the the dreaded mainstream media I -- a huge media critic critic of mining industry and analyst on this reliving -- -- -- -- -- Jorge Ramos city was fair.
And tough yes he asked both.
Question is designed to allow each candidate to talk about what they're about it also pressed them and with follow -- questions.
On areas that they deserved to be challenged on and he did it without such a scene in -- it was.
Just asking the questions and then follow it -- and and I think that.
But those are the kinds of questions both of these men should get and they don't get often enough.
And also promised that excellent use of the skeptical -- I think you must do eyebrow exercises.
Like -- unity yes and really are you sure that you wanna say you kept your promises.
All right we stick around for other segments and we -- and we can.
Find out about this Libya staff and I was special work pew Internet and pointed out here but you were TC McCarthy.
Which actually it's probably.
Not a relative of mine -- I have some relatives with that name.
But the says I hurt so much.
About mock tank that I had to stop by and watch -- -- I love this show.
Because a lot if you were watching this are not watching this like you were not participating in the fullness of your power play experience it.
It is the dominant Internet political telecast of the 1130 half hour in large part because of the people who join the chat.
It hit me -- -- -- on Twitter and I know a lot of your schedules don't -- but.
It's totally fun to be here while this is actually happening instead of just be in a cool cat and -- it later in the day so just remember you'll have more fun if you -- join the conversation.
Will be back we'll we'll talk about what happened in Libya will talk about the political consequences of it -- will be joined by congressman Randy Forbes of Virginia.
So stick around.
-- is why you will not be seeing congressman Randy Forbes from Virginia.
On power play today because he is in fact.
Debating.
Some laws and stuff on the floor of the United States house.
And this is -- welcome back.
So congressman -- cannot be with us fortunately.
David Drucker roll call is Smart and can talk about and myriad things.
And we were hoping to -- your insight on this anyway.
And what's going on.
Us.
It seems to be is that a story that didn't seem to get legs for -- -- suddenly is often -- Gallup and that Gallup has to do with.
What's going on why.
The blue embassy -- the consulate in Libya was not better prepared on September 11 what the real cause of these attacks wasn't all of that good stuff.
So if you'll indulge me I want to play for use some of the -- Kevin in New York.
To play for you some of the back and forth on this.
In part that the road.
American workers win drivers.
And but let me share with you.
Well we have the -- now let's actually -- again.
-- well I'd like to you Internet I'd like I deceived you and it was not what I wanted to do but I guarantee you.
But the back and forth that's going on is yesterday Jay Carney the white house Press Secretary said the self evidently.
This was a terrorist attack I don't know why all of you people are asking these questions.
It was self evidently a terrorist attack and people said you would said the opposite though.
For so long why is it now self evident -- that's what she told if that's what he told UN ambassador Susan Rice.
Which he called to say what you needed self evident I just told everybody.
That threat this was all that a video it was actually really seen and spontaneous -- look I think I think that.
There there -- couple of things going on here.
First of all the Middle East as we know in the Muslim world.
Right now is going -- -- very turbulent period you've had you know what we had called the Arab Spring where a lot of dictatorships were falling you have Syria.
Which is in the midst of the civil war and you have a lot of the Muslim world in general whether it's Pakistan or parts of Indonesia.
That.
-- simply don't like the United States and never really have and I'm not a silly -- that the government's but the rank and file right and government certainly an era and I can't -- and I think that.
When you have this kind of turbulence and -- our relationship with Middle Eastern governments and let's look at.
Egypt right now because of the new you democratically elected regime but nonetheless.
Not.
Not a government that we've had a longstanding relationship with.
Even though it's not a dictatorship.
When this happens a lot of things become unpredictable.
And so I think -- the question is when things happen that you can't control.
Or doesn't appear that you couldn't control -- -- United States how do you react.
And I think right now he -- the administration the challenge is to.
Try and present the idea that there and control things and everything's you know going along swimmingly.
-- it appears as though they really didn't know what was going on for instance you know if if the administration had been able to say rather immediately that we're not sure what's happening but we're investigating it and said we now know from our investigation.
That this was a pre planned attack.
But but we want to tell you how were prepared for that attack -- I think that you would have appeared as though they at least were on top of things right the data for the administration is they look like.
They don't have a policy.
They look as though they're not in control they look as though they don't know what they're doing.
And they should only you know I think they probably have to go to bed every night thanking their lucky stars that -- The national media right now has been more concerned about.
Mitt Romney's response to what's going on the Middle East as opposed to that the commander -- handling of it hasn't gotten that much attention.
-- -- -- -- We thank you so much for your obliging collegial help.
You could produce you -- we need you very much the Internet probably what -- you saying OK we have to take a quick break but when we come back there will be more -- raw political excellence waiting for you.
So stick around.
Warren claim that she was a native American a person of color as you can see she's not.
When I was growing copies of the stories I knew about my heritage.
And that was the back and forth in a debate hosted by WBZ in Boston as to.
The Caucasian this.
Elizabeth Warren.
The democratic nominee.
In the race two for the seat previously held by Ted Kennedy currently held.
By Scott -- that was Scott Brown.
-- making the accusation and this is powered by welcome back we had a couple of really good senate debates this week a lot of crackle out there and in two of the highest profile ones in the country one in Massachusetts between brown and Warren.
And the other one down in Virginia between George Allen and Tim -- and what happens in these races may very well decide.
Who controls the United States senate come next year and very interestingly may say a lot about the condition of the presidential race we may be able to learn things about the top of the ticket -- what's going on underneath.
So let's talk about that I think you'll enjoy talking about that I know you'll enjoy talking to Michelle -- he she is a communications director for go back and as we told you before.
-- is basically the recruiting arm.
For the Republican Party -- they're trying to find new talent so that the Scott -- in the world people who are going to be state legislators and things like that.
To bill.
And a man who needs no introduction but it is my great pleasure to do so is Pat -- is a Fox News contributor he is a democratic pollster and he is the co host and -- -- most importantly -- the cohost of campaign insiders with our production out which you watch right here on foxnews.com live.
Mondays at 1030 -- it is great to have you here in Washington.
That is about it much and visiting them and what about the humidity we're coming right back Pettigrew does occur anytime between -- -- -- in the middle of September it's out for a it's equinox situation.
OK so I want to get your assessment First Act.
You've seen the ebb and flow of these races over a long and successful career.
Senate trend Republicans need foresees -- are they gonna do that it's.
You don't want it it it was a given.
Two years ago where she -- one more last time once again they have candidates who are failing miserably.
I -- with the good Scotty can that the body can they -- that was the candidates who just cannot.
I just don't know I'm sorry I don't know where you get some of these people -- And this is that Michelle that it would be recruits and a good after all of the but -- the -- with the larger problems.
The larger problem is there is no frame over the selection.
If it -- so contrary -- the presidential.
-- what we don't have is a national well.
In national framework as we -- in 2000 and would by the -- came from the bottom up he did not come from the political establishment of the Republican Party in Washington.
Which is about it.
Confident as I know how to say -- but it -- But which is framing it was health care it was government -- -- from the bottom it defined in national all your election.
These -- are that is -- -- -- focus groups and polling I've seen.
And what -- -- -- even though the Republicans have a philosophical huge edge -- -- Tuesday came out with the numbers.
Showing overwhelming forty point margin.
They've -- we need less government -- -- more government in the government's doing too much.
-- -- a few weeks ago Gallup other things saying well the question of should government blood to help lend a hand or get out the way I was 5435.
Breast nuisance at these numbers.
Yet another that is in the voting equation.
It is in the -- out of the -- equation but because despite all that money that's been spent there's been no national -- to say here's what this election is about.
And it is killing these houses put the house and played by the way not just the segment.
Election because -- the presidential race pollsters because Romney has no campaign message.
It did this vacuum is creating a problem and that's why these seem to -- you should be a lot you should be a slam -- in the -- Michelle you why have you done that favorable job and it's just sorry yeah you've got I don't really I -- yeah.
-- feels really -- Comparable I will -- say it isn't very tight race obviously.
I disagree that.
With the fact that we don't have very strong Republican candidates that we saw every reason to be optimistic it will be tied -- look we need to pick up four seats like you said Nebraska -- And then in North Dakota Montana it's a good candidate stepped up in North Dakota and Montana we're hearing hunter.
Tighter than we explode and let's try to -- and I know I.
-- -- They got North Dakota and Montana those are looking good Republicans and -- -- we need to pick up one more and Connecticut Virginia Florida Ohio all these.
And Connecticut is becoming race it'll probably go Republican so competitive now.
-- It's not impossible without in Maine and Maine -- Maine being made.
Good though that there are outside groups and gone to Maine and help the democratic candidate to the Democrats of abandoned.
-- -- -- And -- actually running at its interest to impact this is and influence say that race is suddenly.
Become very tight at last -- -- -- it was a 4338.
For Angus king and he may get clipped on both senses you're right he's got some -- she could move the -- what he just so once it should be given or not given.
And the Democrats really feel the wind of their -- And you know it was -- watching in that debate.
In Massachusetts browns didn't comport themselves very well -- into a little let's take a couple points he got a little -- -- but not too much she didn't give it didn't over cook it.
And down in Virginia.
George Allen looked surprisingly -- you can't -- is reality that Allen who do had a very.
-- run in 2006 when he and think about this Internet George Allen who is struggling to get back into the senate fighting with Tim Kaine and Virginia to get back into the senate.
Was once in nearly presumptive Republican presidential nominee when he was running in 2006 is really staffing up for his 08 presidential run.
And then there was -- -- But.
Michelle V these two candidates look like they're doing pretty well -- pat mentioned -- -- And and NC and and there are you've had other questions about ready for prime time out there what what's what do you say that.
Well just as we've seen Missouri all the sudden become competitive -- that was going to be a Republican win in the past couple weeks -- few weeks.
Decision how quickly things can change and so -- -- can change negatively positively positively as well we've -- six and a half weeks before the election.
And so there's things -- swing in opposite direction for Republicans as well.
That one of -- most loyal viewers want you to know this.
-- tank who was information in the show -- we love because as a result is our best of our best chatter and like Shelby's according to.
His or her.
Picture on Twitter says I did not vote for -- -- and told him to get out so don't blame me for I don't know I don't -- On -- O'Hara they just they just put this is a problem when people who commit students from which they will not recover.
That it one point was threatening the presidential race it's threatens the -- this man has no business running if you can make any comment like that.
And what he said we should clarify where or explain what he said just to be clear was that women who were victims of forcible sexual assault.
Had special things inside of themselves that blocked pregnancy -- it.
In the damage additions done to the Republican brand everywhere.
Two women and everything -- he's been on what I mean.
You know I don't know -- young Republicans have had turned down his statement it and come out of new Gingrich is going.
He's going to go fundraisers and not but the point there is that the voters in the search decide shouldn't.
Well they did well you know what again that you helped it dominate the Democrats put money just like forgot about -- and the other way.
Remember you're you're you're -- you -- what -- to supplement -- urban.
-- -- These the Democrats -- a million couple million dollars in the beginning helping -- he can win the nomination.
But this is a problem and -- -- telling you would -- is a grassroots Tea Party problem.
Picking out these candies like Cheryl angle that no more business running Sharon angle here -- and -- -- the last time.
Christine O'Donnell in Delaware which -- -- to say this is -- keep strong senate seats awaiting -- in the back in the.
-- all right so we have you both have about fifteen seconds here at the end which final prediction for number in the senate.
I think we can pick up for I'm -- -- in this city since 5050 and the vice presidents that -- as intolerant OK -- what's -- predict.
Well see I think that's a problem.
I mean they should be able pick up 68 seats they're not gonna get him -- Nelson I think it's now questionable whether they'll get to 5050 and indeed they do.
It looks like right now as Romney campaign keeps trying to lose a campaign he can't lose.
That'll be Joseph Biden sitting there.
But this house is likely to remember.
-- how -- -- will have to have guys back we'll have to have you back to talk about how the Republicans are going to stumble and give up 24.
Currencies.
To lose.
But that is we'll have to be a matter for another time -- We're so glad you're here in Washington this it was a nice if you want to come back and inhuman and knowing you were reasonably nice to Michelle it's really an earlier blaming everything she's great and I'm absolutely only the -- -- -- decipher here immunity -- -- -- that person I can -- -- that she's -- reveal it's her fault but it's not -- -- I think it's a lot of other people have a great weekend guys now.
For you I just there's no -- -- but I have a funny for you if you follow me on Twitter.
Cease fire -- I just -- tweeted -- think that Rick.
Treated which is the Obama people that are doing their obamacare on their hands Rick Perry has got something a little more Chuck -- -- That should give you giggle so they'll follow me -- -- well right now and you get a laugh we thank you very much Charles is -- be -- -- I checked I promise coming back very soon he had an out of -- speaking engagements I promise not abide with me Internet.
On the hunt is being -- dead by Julie Banderas trying to -- like that so have a good time watching that we'll see --
