Michael Phelps is one of the world's most celebrated olympians.

You've ever call how -- thrilled millions of people while swimming for gold.

He was he has won 22 Olympic medals eighteen of them are gold.

And what you may -- now is that since 2003 Phelps has been a strong supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of America.

He believes the club gives children the one thing that help him become successful mentors and coaches who care enough.

To help him live life beyond the -- I've been able to get here.

I really just one thing country.

I had a dream of being the best that I could be in the groups when I was a kid growing up.

Michael Phelps always dreamed of becoming a great Olympic athlete he began pursuing their dream as a young child growing up in Baltimore -- it.

His single parent mother helping him with encouragement and support.

What my mother did -- for my sisters and I were.

Absolutely incredible she made sure we had everything they ever wanted.

Working multiple jobs doing this and that issue is -- out all the time she always made sure that we had everything we -- and we are taking care of and and -- watching her work so hard I think.

Really helped us sort of learn that.

Whatever you put him on -- you can achieve.

Through the years of trials and triumphs and Michael developed an appreciation for people who never gave up when their dreams.

He also says if you have a dream a plant and the -- to reach for it you can accomplish it.

If you put your mind to it to something and you're.

Have a passion you have a goal and and you like kid and you love it then anything is possible -- so I've been able to to get to where I am today is.

I started with a dream.

A plan.

And I reached for it.

Mike always using his accomplishments to help motivate children to dream big and live large.

So he recently became an honorary board member of the Boys and Girls Club in his hometown of Baltimore.

He also found the Michael Phelps foundation.

The nonprofit organization partners with kids health and the Michael Phelps swim school to promote health and wellness through the sport of swimming.

The program is offered at various boys and girls clubs across the country.

It helps thousands of kids stay safe in and out of the water.

Teaching them the basics of water safety for children under the age of fourteen the program helps reduce the risk of drowning.

The second highest cause of death for that age group.

Too many people who are -- are obese and so many people.

Drowned -- two things that are very important and something that that.

-- -- working a lot with more and more in the future and and hopefully we can change the things.

Michael continues to receive praise for all his hard work to be the best that he can -- he's been honored by presidents and adored by fans.

He recalls what it felt like to win more goals than anyone in Olympic history.

One of the coolest things that really benevolence experience though my careers been.

Sort of the support that.

And our country -- one another.

And then you do feel it you know even if I am overseas you feel the country sort of getting behind you and I think that's on this very powerful and then.

You know being able to be American and and represent the best country in the world is.

The greatest thing I could ever imagine.

There's nothing better than standing up and listen in the National Anthem play from around the corner on -- Michael was retired now and while the competitive side of his career is over he says he will continue to focus on helping children.

Pursue their dreams the youth of America us on this very important and then and these kids are going to be the kids are gonna take over in our -- Michael Phelps of course has the heart of a -- the end but the soul of -- -- reaching out to help America's children become the best thing to me.
