Love this moment time now for Sunday house call -- joining us this morning is doctor David some money the vice chairman of the department of urology and chief of robotics at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.

And doctor Marc Siegel is here associate professor of medicine at NYU's -- go medical center.

And the author of the inner -- unlocking the secret code of sickness and health.

-- great to see you good morning morning morning morning is a great house call today.

Starting with a topic that really took my breath away -- a lot of people you like rice -- with a lot of different meals.

They found arsenic and rice and the doctors are very concerned about they want you to know about -- so let's get started -- -- -- First he's growing fears over -- arsenic.

It is serious and you actually need this was a big news this week and that's what we're bringing this to you.

Consumer report actually announced that they looked at 200 products rice and rice related baby formulas rice -- And what they found was that the amount of arsenic in these products.

Are really -- somebody you have to be very careful -- arsenic first so arsenic is a natural element of refined soybean water.

And and that's how it really gets into the system and rice is actually being produced advocates uphold his arsenic and then it goes into our system now for the most part.

FDA came back and said that we -- what they found and that's what we're having this discussion.

-- big concern is really for the parents and for their children because in children arsenic toxicity.

Can cause a delay in developmental growth we can -- lower IQ.

It can affect their memory this is a very serious business over here now in adults we know.

-- with cancer is that arsenic can lead to bladder cancer lung cancer and skin cancer so.

Believe it or not we are drinking this every day but there's a standard that if he has put in.

For the water but we don't have anything like that for the food and that's that's big news over here and you eat rice safely -- -- Well you know I've written a book on fear and I think you can -- -- -- safely because I want people out there to understand something.

The amount of arsenic that it takes to poison you is about a 100000 times more than the amount we're talking about here however.

I think David is raising a very good point here one of the reasons it's.

Because arsenic in the water that gets into rice beat rice loves arsenic it picks it right up out of the soil.

But the organic type of arsenic you get you get out of your system faster but with pesticides.

And chemicals that are in the environment we're seeing more in organic arsenic and that's the type that over time can lead to cancer so I think there's some risk here we're we're -- -- infants.

That are having formula that have a lot of rice in it that's the first and yelling and give him as the -- that's based on price and I think absolutely that the -- I think the bottom line here is that the FDA needs a standard they don't have a standard how much is too much.

You know -- -- there wavering they're looking for information they want more studies but in the meantime.

We need a standard for our kids out there especially to know how much is too much and many cultures eat a lot of -- by the way I'm also worried about the and -- -- I'm also worried about the the sugar in the carbohydrates I've said before we talk about apple juice somewhere about the sugar and apple juice.

But -- of the arsenic is something -- pay attention look.

And even worse than this is that when this program we've set for years that brown rice is actually very healthy for you but guess what brown rice actually has more arsenic.

-- white -- because it has its -- now.

He talked about our culture and I'm gonna like to address this so it's not all bad news you have to know how to take care of the rights and how to cook him.

And nobody knows is better and purges out there and the president.

I way to do this is I remembered you know -- my mom and my wife faction of the way to do this is they watched this well first.

Then they put in the real boiling water and that kind of gets rid of most of the arsenic and the third time to actually cook it.

Moderation is a way to go because one portion of this can increase arsenic level to 40%.

To a portion -- day can increase it to 70% -- so I think that there is a serious problem not to be scared but my advice to a lot of parents out there for the kids.

I would stop I know it's a little radical recommendation stop any rice products.

For your children.

Until FDA will come with -- real recommendation -- end of the year and I just that's standard blood -- in the meantime you can I want you can get a urine tests and you can get a blot test for a short exposure.

But it was for longer exposure you have to check your hair and you're you're now we'll look back at a thank you towards the visceral one question one more quick thing on this is that you know there -- standards for water the state in New Jersey says five micrograms per -- they got a standard let's have a for a.
