President Obama facing criticism over his recent comments about violence across the Muslim world.

In an interview with CBS sixty minutes President Obama referred to the unrest as quote bumps in the road.

Words governor Mitt Romney seized on during a campaign stop in Colorado yesterday listen.

He said the developments in the Middle East are.

Bumps in the road.

Yeah that was my reaction.

Bumps in the road we had a we had an ambassador assassinated.

We had -- Muslim Brotherhood elect a member elected to the presidency of of Egypt.

40000 people have been killed.

In Syria.

We have to have -- in Pakistan.

At -- course Iran is that much closer to having the capacity to build a nuclear weapon.

These are not bumps in the road these are human lives these are good developments we -- not want to save.

Joining us now for a fair and balanced debate about all this Nancy vote -- -- the president of media -- strategies and former senior policy advisor for John McCain's campaign in 2008.

-- -- Venus also -- former chief of staff to West Virginia democratic senator Joseph mansion.

Chris this president is known for his oratorical skills he is a former law professor he is a guy who knows the meaning of the words.

And to say we've had bumps in the road after four Americans were killed isn't that a major misstep.

Well I mean listen in fairness the president when he was saying and when you listen to his words in particular I think when you listen to his speech today.

That's United Nations he was talking about the larger context of the challenges the countries -- -- I know the Republicans want to fixate on any potential gap to turn around their campaign.

But this notion that somehow you -- present or rep or make the president look cold and callous.

He's just not gonna happen I mean -- the American people are gonna buy that it's not something that fits into any kind of narrative about The Who the president is.

So I listen I understand -- the game of politics it happens on both sides and that's fair but this is not one.

Line of attack that is gonna work.

Well alright Nancy Mitt Romney was so criticized in the media for coming out on the night the ambassador was killed -- and criticizing the administration's.

Response to all of this.

And and -- this thing doesn't seem to be gaining any traction why -- -- I it's bizarre to me because obviously the president and his administration and his campaign.

Has so much invested in the narrative that somehow the global war on terrorism is over.

That they are willing to discount -- seem to downplay the shocking attract and tragic events that we've seen.

I think what's played out over the last week or two I was particularly on a noticeable yesterday -- in the last 48 hours is that Mitt Romney was right.

In his characterization of what had happened mean let's look at the case we had.

The the embassy in Cairo stormed the US flag taken down -- Al qaeda's -- put in its place.

We had a US ambassador to former Navy SEALs -- Foreman former US air force.

-- who was kidnapped and assassinated.

This is the type -- staying.

That demands outrage and a strong response on the part of -- our commander in chief.

And his and his reaction has just been.

Very very off Chris Karl Rove pointed out earlier that you know.

The saint the day after all of this happen the president got on the plane and flew out to Las Vegas.

And -- -- campaign fund raiser it just seems like there is some political tone deafness to what's going on in the Middle East.

Well I'm in -- first let me correct one thing in terms of you know what Nancy just said in terms of you know I've got governor Romney.

The reason why he got criticized is because he said the president and in the administration -- apologize.

For certain things that it happened at least that was not true.

Natalie -- -- to -- -- -- that they were the administration was apparently putting out or at least tolerating.

These tweets put out by the Egyptian embassy -- embassy in Egypt who were saying you know we apologize for this film America.

We have statements statements that the administration disavowed and said that they would did not authorize the putting that aside here to answer here to answer your question.

We hear is you know listen I don't like to give.

Strategic advice to Republicans but -- -- give it because this is starting to become a bit about a comedy of errors.

If if governor Romney and Republicans and I like Karl Rove is a Smart guy to say the least.

But if anyone believes -- you're gonna win this election by talking about foreign policy over the next 42 days.

They or on drugs.

Right you're going to lose this election.

You cannot win this because it's not something the American people gonna buy one it's not one of the top issues and they're not gonna believe that the president is weak on foreign policy NASA security.

After he killed -- lot and it's not going to.

Happened but what about I mean Nancy bin Laden yes is dead as the president will remind you over and over again but that if this was an al-Qaeda.

Offshoot group that killed our ambassador -- suggests that al-Qaeda is very much alive.

On on the anniversary year with the worst terrorist attack this country ever ever suffered through it was done on 9/11 and they appeared to Bob I.

The are the opponents lying.

In that it was based on on the video.

Rather -- that it was orchestrated even though the Libyan government said they it clearly warned our government.

That's the threats were increased and the State Department increased their threat level I will agree with Chris on the fact.

That we that the economy is the major issue in this election and I embrace and I think governor -- embraces every opportunity to talk about this.

But as as president Obama's so memorably -- in 2008 presidents have to be able to walk and -- -- At the same time we better be able to talk about foreign policy -- a realistic sense at the same time that we talk about the dismal academic record.

That this country has lived through for the last four years Nancy vote now.
