He saw dignity in the people that he met.
Two weeks ago he traveled -- big Ghazi to review plans to establish a new cultural center.
And modernize a hospital.
That's what America's compound came under attack.
Along with three of his colleagues.
Chris was killed in the city the helped to save.
The president offering a tribute there at the UN general assembly earlier today to the US ambassador killed in the attack on our consulate in Libya.
But two -- the president did not mention specifically by name where the former Navy SEALs who also died that day.
Tyrone woods who you see on the left England Doherty on the right died protecting American lives after the consulate came under attack.
We have a picture today -- mother Barbara who you see at his funeral last week holding the flag presented to her by the navy.
And during the funeral for -- woods his widow Dorothy.
Reportedly offered her own tribute.
As well as a call to action.
Telling those in attendance quote.
It is easy to write a book about being -- navy seal but it is very hard to write an obituary for one.
And adding quote to all the operators here today I give you this -- Rid the world of those savages.
I'll say it again.
Rid the world of those savages.
My Portland is a former navy seal who served with both -- Doherty.
And -- -- woods and he joins me now Mike thank you so much for being here I wanna pick it up.
We're -- reportedly left off rid the world of those savages.
Does the messaging.
Need to be stronger from our own administration on that very same point.
Thanks millions you know it's.
It's encouraging to hear the the president speak today in front of the UN the language that he used seemed pretty clear.
However I will say that and given.
You know this country is presented with an opportunity.
And we will send a message -- we want to or not and -- that.
If you attack and kill our people -- -- a do nothing about it or if you attack and kill our people.
You're -- in the country that harbors you.
Won't pay very dearly for doing so.
So I think you know that the -- is there you know as how strong it means to be in my opinion is actions speak louder than words and you know he'd -- seems to have made it pretty clear as to what the intentions are.
-- -- I would love to see our -- follow through with.
With those with those were.
What are your thoughts Ben and in.
No -- -- since.
Two weeks and I guess since the attacks that took the lives of your two friends and two others.
In terms of the messaging we've been getting about.
What caused it who was behind it it was a about a protest over -- video no it wasn't.
It was a terror attack but that the president didn't go quite that far but what just as a navy seal on somebody who knew these guys what it -- given that your thoughts.
It's been a flurry of emotions.
You know first it was.
You know disbelief.
Having known both men very well and serving -- room for a number of years.
It was it was a little hard to swallow.
You know of course or some other emotions that.
That are -- -- there that that are has to be expected.
You know in terms of of how it happens why it happens you know from a tactical slash operator perspective.
You know we all know what the risks are going over there but we also -- that.
You know the events such as those.
Don't don't happen spontaneously you know the in the perspective that it's because of the video or it's not.
You know to me there's there's a lot of politics involved and you know the bottom line is once you're over there and then things start to unravel.
None of that really matters what matters is just stepping forward and taking carrier countrymen in the way that the way to -- -- in -- -- and you know I -- I hope that that our country.
You know never forgets and always his perspective to guys like time -- and and their families.
You know now the reports -- that they.
I think it's been confirmed that they weren't there providing security for investors Stevens but they were there and that -- date they rushed to help those who found themselves.
When wind it.
-- and -- the consulate came came under fire.
Do you feel that there was a lack of security.
I think it would be impossible to to deny the fact that -- was in fact the lack of security.
That wouldn't -- happened you know the bottom line is if you have adequate security you don't lose for your people it's it's pretty much that simple.
That part of it is frustrating.
You know again it's I think it's it's easy to sit in and say we should have done this could have done that.
I think that it's imperative that our government.
Through transparency is very thorough and its investigation.
Uses all of its resources to conduct the investigation and figures out.
You know The Who what when where why and how of the entire scenario.
And then absolutely follows through with.
With a vengeance to you know to to right the wrong that happened that day.
It's not at all surprising to me that -- and -- -- rush to their aid and if there's one thing that I -- could ask of of our president is that.
That he awards them with the presidential medal of freedom.
I think that those two men and their families -- are absolutely deserving of it given the circumstances.
And you know I hope that.
That that that reaches him and and and then he takes that.
None has been a serious consideration.
Mike Redmond thank you for your service coming and thank you for coming on sharing your members of your friends.
We'll be right back.
