Tums always happy to have on the -- never forget he was kind enough to be our very first guest ever.
And his -- too many times since.
Newt Gingrich was Republican candidate for president seeking the Republican nomination.
And of course former speaker of the house and mr.
speaker I -- jamming you know we tried to get the show a few times during the race I knew -- little -- Well I was blown away this trying to.
Reach every Republican good and you know things is the place to do it.
Well -- that somehow but all the oil -- like being on your show and thank you always.
No yours have a positive attitude in -- and ideas which is certainly.
But I tried to base my career -- what you learned during this race.
I don't -- the biggest thing it would.
-- two things one is that money really make a huge difference.
In primaries much more than a dozen general elections.
And the other.
It's very hard to think -- ideas in the political system.
And move them into the common conversation.
The -- just not built to to have those kind of conversations.
Would you and a very different kind of campaign knowing now what you do then.
Well and we did an ally -- no I think I think and it should be -- you can't surprise you -- -- beat.
Bolder and more -- oriented and I would never tired and need to consult much.
Because they have they have a model of how politics work -- -- -- the opposite of what I wanna do.
-- hand I really wanted to talk about -- reach your children to talk about it.
But actually create jobs and breaks and that was -- trillion dollars by traffic.
Better health than the kind of thing that allow you to really have.
Bold new innovative approaches to solving our problems at hand.
I just felt that is that it did and didn't -- what amount can -- expect to wire ran I really feel like I didn't represented those ideas legalization.
Aren't there moments so when you really thought you're going to be the nominee.
You -- trade particularly in December where.
We hadn't have been crowned by money and -- -- you campaign in the contest of ideas.
In the debates you know Paul indicated and so -- point.
I think it was like thirteen points ahead of the front runner.
Just based on.
Good ideas with which you look at that you -- here as you remembered -- We get clobbered in June and everybody and their brother piled on top of -- we were considered out of the race -- -- -- down -- 3% support.
-- we were running a shoestring campaign and we only had about -- a shoestring.
But but for some reason particularly in the debates begin to work.
And people -- to pay attention to ideas.
And by mid December we were doing very very well ultimately it was five million dollars of negative -- denial.
And that -- was literally.
We -- about eighteen points in three weeks.
And going in that one South Carolina -- that it yeah.
Fifteen million dollars and -- advertising in Florida so I think the other thing probably.
And Adam I don't know what this -- -- -- government capable of competing and at that level -- -- -- sheer money.
But in retrospect -- probably spend more time focused on big ideas and focus and raising money and cutting out a lot of other stuff.
Which I would Newt Gingrich is it possible as someone with your mindset.
And your ideas in your vision.
Works better outside the left right political spectrum in terms of being -- -- -- -- -- got to play as a candidate.
Doesn't enable you to do some of the things you probably would like to do and say some of -- just like dissent.
Yeah I think I think it's very likely that I actually do better.
In an idea centered environment whether it's what I'm doing now episode new development we have called me university.
For the things we do that Gingrich productions.
Merely trying to develop a positive approach this whole thing.
Which is very different then the way the political system.
I'm very surprised that -- obviously -- supporting Mitt Romney and yet I remember that prime I watched the primary.
Days and weeks and studied it like the Dead Sea scrolls and watched every movement and and you were.
Pretty angry at him a number times affect even -- -- -- liars and there's some -- bit harsh words going back and forth.
And he was pretty harsh on you does that make you have to kind of bite your lip when you support him.
I'll I think fundamentalists and -- -- -- had this conversation during the primaries we both agreed.
That whoever the nominee was -- the -- was Barack Obama.
No cure all and to try to obedient than conventional.
In any time I -- had to -- I think you know.
Barack Obama's reelection and I know you'll agree it's just and Barack Obama's -- that will be -- disaster.
That is easy for me.
-- we'll have been strongly in favor went -- So and almost anybody you're saying is -- -- -- Barack Obama Olmert at least any Republican even though you may not have.
Love in your heart for Mitt Romney.
I think I didn't think that in fact been huge difference in in what kind of Supreme Court we have in.
What kind of policies -- follow and our approach in international relations so I do think there's very very big difference.
Between what governor Romney would say is -- -- President Obama -- Do you you've said just this week that you don't believe the president you know think President Obama is a real president.
Is that a little diminishing over the office of the presidency whether you agreement -- I'll get -- -- -- I am not the presidency.
I think well obviously you think about this.
Wouldn't have been -- context of that -- susteren we're talking about the fact.
That he did not have time to see any of the ten world leaders who reducing under the UN.
But he could go on the field.
Now to -- my schedules all the by the way you can watch me on the view.
For the president of the United States.
Well was a presidential -- -- to go on.
Kelly Ripa you know in the Michael Strahan -- I don't -- on on the view if you can work it in around the ten world leaders you run well but but I was just kidding you explain to a farm he had inspection president of -- Egypt -- the prime minister of Israel.
The American president can't see right now which you can manage the club is you don't see him sitting on the view do you -- a little bit makes you wonder what is what is priority -- You know these conversations -- -- the time -- -- -- -- speaking with Netanyahu Friday and -- hourlong conversation last week.
The presidency as you know moves and different ways not just about what happens when everybody's intent of the UN.
But at.
You you wrote a piece.
On the debate to debate you're coming up and you had some interesting advice what do you think Mitt Romney needs to do.
In the three debates have -- Well.
And I think that -- -- personalized and and I wrote that that human -- and Gingrich productions a newsletter where you know.
I walked through the presidential debates all of which -- change starting with the Nixon Kennedy in 1960.
And I pointed out that you think back to the big thing which seemed to change them.
He learned some clever consultant -- There's a lot of contract -- -- just actions -- George H.
W.
Bush looking at his watch.
It was -- mentioned -- the -- up.
It was Ronald Reagan blatantly cutting back with a joke when people thought that he had lost it is their first degree 84.
Nearly came back the opening question was what the body's sleep he says and I couldn't -- my opponent's youth and inexperience against him.
Everybody breaks -- to mention that -- movie I'm going Reagan and we have this scene and you can see the camera command on.
Monday you can tell from the look on Mondale guys that he figured -- he just lost the election.
That's it yeah it's right there's it's those little moments you really can't plan for.
Like Ronald Reagan of course saying there you go again and so you wonder if any of -- moment shall happen.
But.
Are you concerned at this point given the poll numbers that the Republicans are not gonna have a great November.
Sure -- well I think that house and so no doubts as loose they're Republican in the senate we have a chance to -- -- -- -- -- question that we -- -- you know enough to get to a majority aware that we.
Just gain ground and I've been very aggressively campaign in trying to just get to majority.
I do think that governor Romney has to have a good debate on October -- -- no question in my mind.
That this is the chance for them to be -- what this campaign is about.
-- that he needs to use that they to do so.
One thing nobody can ever accuse you of his lack of specificity.
He -- many -- elect a specificity this entire campaign does he need to present.
More of a vision -- just beating up on President Obama doesn't he North Pacific about what he want to do for America.
Yeah I think it will -- needs far better off to build a campaign and contrast and since they to a Obama -- -- the easiest thing the book has Keystone Pipeline.
Obama has -- -- that Romney would approve the numbers are very clear.
Very specifics it will be one more oil from Canada less -- from candidate UN worker and American energy independence.
Doing a block Americans intention is just decided to act.
Haven't gotten those places where probably would be much better off.
-- it to be very clear about what he would do.
And why that was different from -- Let me ask you also well before -- -- -- -- you're one of the few Republicans has come out and supported.
The -- candidate against Claire McCaskill in Missouri you've come under fire from the RNC.
Many Republicans have.
Backed away from his campaign he certainly controversial figure to see represented properly the Republican Party -- why do you support.
-- he was just -- endorsed by the Missouri farm bureau with 98% of the vote.
He has an a rating on the National Rifle Association.
Mike -- -- -- -- he has evaluating -- light to -- intentionally and have.
The people of Missouri voted 71%.
Referendum against obamacare.
Six weeks later -- -- -- -- for.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I think it's very clear verdict -- -- -- -- -- I think that you almost similar to -- that is just Colombian.
Capital was going and Mike -- -- again.
I think of the Senate Committees so it didn't help him.
The Republican National Committee helping islanders -- former student athletes first -- and here this.
-- you know -- party I think.
It doesn't know it works embarrass you or is it more important have Republican there regardless of some of his.
Views on rate for example when he talked about for some.
Well you know he he -- he said he was wrong and he apologized and I would just tell you I think that.
Six seconds of verbal mistake and look at Joseph Biden if if we counted that might have to resign -- -- presidency.
So my -- -- -- six seconds of horrible mistake doesn't nonsense computers in the -- voting wrong.
You wanna make a prediction for this November 6 -- -- -- -- -- Oh I think that is not accompanied by the west in remarkably good night for Republicans you think -- I think is a very -- look at today's economic numbers.
Where they they've reduced it can be 421 point 3% last month.
The manufacturing and it's just -- The steepest drop -- and in recent years.
All this sanction I think.
The question that you want formally as the Obama's state mention that -- -- -- and that -- thank you so much for your time again tonight thanks and program.
