-- -- questions about the media's coverage of the presidential campaign a brand new fox polling numbers shows that.

Nearly half of voters in America think that news organizations.

Mostly defend President Obama an attack governor Mitt Romney.

About three times as many who say it's the other way around what is up what this.

Juan Williams Fox's political analyst Mary Katharine Ham editor at large of hot air dot com and Fox News contributor good morning to both you -- for there anymore and Eric and good morning is there truth to this.

I think it's just a fact of life as somebody who has right of -- -- deal with -- a lot of the time I'd I don't think you can sort of make a bunch of excuses for it but I do think -- like this isn't just in my imagination you look back Evan Thomas who used to work with Newsweek.

And I 2004 saying like look that the media might be worth five to fifteen points.

For John Kerry which is that's an election that's a big deal and the children -- our country's got a 5050 -- a fact of life.

I yeah I do think that media bias -- sort of that's the way it works the people who go into media are mostly liberal I do think that there are new options opening for conservatism more voices are heard than ever before so so -- about your early -- are correct thing but these sit back and accept it.

Say that's the way it is now I think I think these days especially the last couple of years there.

Flourishing groups that do conservative work they do investigative work on things that maybe the mainstream press doesn't do investigative work on I think you're.

You're hearing his voice is more and more often.

-- -- what about this is there truth to this number.

Actually -- I mean especially if you're talking to Republicans overwhelming the Republicans the a bias in the media you know the way that the fox poll put it was.

Are people spending is the press -- -- more time defending Obama attacking Romney depending Romney attacking Obama and overwhelmingly people see.

That it's more about defending Obama attacking Romney but now -- bill.

Did a similar poll just last week and if you ask the question differently if the coverage -- then it comes up.

Basically split people think the coverage is there.

They think it will more critical when they probably wouldn't -- oil down and -- But -- -- -- -- difference between the pew poll on what we found there.

Well because the way the question was worded if you think if you ask people if -- defending Obama attacking Romney I think people especially Republicans say that's exactly right I think that's what Mary -- -- But if you ask them just a matter of fairness.

Is it fair coverage for example.

When you see Mitt Romney make a 47%.

Comment or put Clint Eastwood on the state and in the press makes a big deal out of it especially.

You're -- a monster you can't criticize the monster for eating.

-- that number again isn't it Mary Katherine.

Let me get -- there -- -- but the irony of what one just said 47% on that tape is matched by the bowling number we didn't let up.

I did build larger -- without wanna let Mary Katharine win on this is that it just keeps going and going and it feeds itself without any brakes on it.

-- let me -- 12 examples of unfairness as I see them.

First of all Alberto Gonzales remember we heard a whole lot for about three years about him firing some -- that DOJ.

On the other hand we have fast and furious where people are actually dead because the United States government was moving illegal guns to drug cartel members.

And -- we don't hear so much about that and it's not connected -- to Barack Obama and nobody has left the administration.

I think it's crazy to me and -- other thing is on nine elevenths if President Bush.

Had messed up the response to a terrorist a -- In Libya.

On -- anniversary of 9/11 and then lied about it for a week and a half you cannot tell me that we have we would have heard the end of it ever.

On both the for instance there -- You know I honestly think -- -- a reporter in terms of this enters as the program started before Obama came in the office but it.

You know and I think the Libya which is not known how general coverage and that I -- -- eleven I mean that's -- when you got it right that's basically like conspiracy theory you know I think we think you should be more aggressive and dropper with Obama and you know what.

The prayer prayer and -- I added -- signed an English and go after him.

The pressure to hold people in power accountable I will say this do you vote.

Last time when John McCain was running in 08.

You know what people thought the press -- more unfair to McCain and they didn't think they're on -- to Mitt Romney so this is an ongoing -- coming from conservatives about the coverage but again I just wanna point out that what you ask about fairness -- is -- -- spirit around me here to Obama according if you the American people are basically gather.

They're fair to both.

Not -- Cavanaugh president had to go home one mom because you know what -- fox polling numbers came out yesterday this what popped on -- -- best time magazine.

Mitt Romney is on the cover what's -- abounds about Mormon.

Mormon is administrate getting it yet again -- -- -- And America I think what Republicans argue was this -- story that's put Mitt Romney in a positive light.

We have you seen some I guess you could say that Newsweek did the anti Barack Obama covers -- given credit for that.

I guess about a time magazine story you get asked the Press Secretary over the White House he's worked for time.

Up I do think that this is a perennial problem I think the press itself admits that Jake Tapper said to Laura Ingraham does a couple months -- look I do think that the press was largely unfair to Hillary Clinton against Obama and then John McCain against Obama and tipped the election.

In Obama's favor is that it's not just mean things that the press itself when it's looking at itself sometimes can be -- they look.

Maybe we haven't been.

One you're squinting when she's talking there you.

I think I think and I got a little bit.

I think -- is on target when she says if you asked reporters -- they.

More likely be Democrats or Republicans.

They're more likely to be Democrats and liberal on the question but you know the other side of this is if you ask the owners if you ask the editors there are more likely to be Republican and I think the American people.

Are Smart enough to reach conclusions for themselves.

I don't think anybody telling them a bill good and they are bunch of dummies who just swallow it whole -- I think people are critical consumers of news media and so what you asked about the -- Obama and attacking Romney I think that's why do you get the results we -- on the spot well.

And when you anthem about fairness is that fear that's when you get the different that a result is that -- you know -- people -- something they're getting what they deserve when they do stupid things.

A look at throwing like many other but I I don't.

-- -- -- -- -- -- The arrest in the in the box Poland next question was that the American press spent too much time covering silly things and and that was overwhelming people think the president's too much time on celebrity over the apps that you know.

He is charged.

But this election as a big big deal we've given it their attention to thank you want to thank you Mary Katherine -- -- -- -- yeah and you as well to our viewers at -- what do you think about this is the truth and that.

Foxnews.com.

Slash America's Newsroom on the -- -- of BY a box leave it right there in your question.

Email -- -- foxnews.com.

Or -- one Twitter.

At Bill Hemmer because you were asked to be way we're gonna go through all this stuff I don't think we covered too many silly things around -- think a lot of silly stuff that we -- on the table.

Isn't it like to talk about a -- During the commercial break.
