Welcome back to fox lifestyle I'm Rick Leventhal.
If you have kids you probably think they're the greatest most talented kids in the whole world am -- right.
Linda Leonard can tell us whether that's true or not.
Tell you how you can figure out if your kid has star potential -- -- -- thanks for joining us.
Year professional.
You know how to spot talent you have actually coached.
Several young stars that correct tell us about that.
That's trick.
That's correct I -- at -- college and actors conservatory here in Dallas.
And Daniel -- at least one of our fabulous and products of our school and she's an X-Factor right now she's still one of our students are very very proud -- we also have.
Few people lining -- right now so they follow each other.
Yeah and what do you tell people when they come to you with a child who they think.
Is the next star on Disney or some television program what what do you tell -- what do you look for.
Well there are certain things that you can you can seeing your child they'll help you determine whether or not they should be in the industry are not one is did if they have a great imagination if they use their imagination a problem solved.
-- number kid they communicate well and others do they really love people.
Number three I think people in front of large -- -- audiences on number floor.
Use the -- problem solve with their imagination.
Number five today right -- -- today right things and act and not for you.
And numbers six and do they really really.
Ask you -- continual basis to watch them -- that you know winner in the public -- they're comfortable there.
You -- you didn't mention whether they're earning good.
And whether -- -- they sing and they act and they dance.
Okay well and that's it that's for the training and then you see if they have a propensity for and then the thing that we need to do is get them in the class.
Because training as a way again and how how young is too young I -- -- when you encourage people to start training their kids.
Well we have -- classes -- hate me for students starting at age six.
And they take either call I -- classes there an introduction to -- on camera acting class -- -- have classes.
So they start as early as soon as they're ready they're basically.
And if you live you don't live in Los Angeles or New York you're in Dallas.
If that person is and in one of these larger cities.
Is it harder for them to get their kids the coaching they need.
I don't think -- at the -- is one of the top ten markets in the country in terms of the performance industry right but being here there's been training all around the country so if if your child does have a propensity for that and get them until last -- and acting classes.
I was including Dallas in the in the in the larger markets.
And do you I'm guessing that you have a lot of people who come to you from from other places.
We do we had people that come from all over the country to study at -- college.
And we're thrilled to have them we have them from all around around the state and as well as you know out of the state.
No we've heard a lot of horror stories about kids child actors who go the wrong way.
Did you offer any tips on that you offer any advice on how to keep your kid on there on the right path.
Well I think the important thing is to take them -- as many events that he can afford it.
Does he -- theater to see movies television.
So they see the work that doesn't -- it until they understand there's no respect for the for the industry and as fun to keep them on the right -- -- -- -- -- work that they needed healing and not -- bit.
Is there something about -- entertainment industry that makes it tougher to for for children.
You know I think that as an actor you have to be necessarily open and -- harmful.
To let your what you're doing you know to actress Kelly on the camera.
And Sally you know the people that are involved in the end -- season after a bit more sensitive a more open and says that does them allow them sometimes to be around.
I think.
I got a couple of emails from viewers one wrote every kid has star potential today this stuff they.
The stuff they pass up on TV has lowered the bar Jersey Shore comes to mind.
Do you like you take issue was with these reality shows that -- star -- people who may not have much talent as some of the -- in your class.
Well I yes I do actually I I would love for there to be more scripted shows it's exciting to see -- serious work that's coming out and Dallas you know is here now in Dallas -- -- so we're excited to hear that roaring back -- we have right exactly someone else wrote if my kid doesn't have star potential than your kid shouldn't either it's only fair.
Well I think that.
Every line is it.
No matter what do you go into the industry -- night and what the training helps -- Fisher Communications skills your confidence and -- you can use those to become a lawyer -- your doctor -- When you.
And most kids have a propensity did -- act outright hit to right put on shows and and seeing in dance.
Can you take any child and make them a star.
Well you can certainly take any telling given training.
And hopefully -- that training leads to -- bigger and better things.
But even if they don't become performer someone in the industry the confidence -- -- -- from the train will help them -- whatever they decide is.
I'm guessing for you this has to be a lot of fun and sure it's hard work but it also has to be fun to work with a lot of talented young people.
Absolutely well it's it's it's LA it's such a pleasure for me and we're -- Katie -- is wonderful because -- -- Very -- and encouraging -- up any tennis didn't coming to our stores it has great funding for them and besides our children's program.
We have a college program -- upper -- associate degree.
At our school and we operated free and commercial from broadcast acting a degree in musical theater and now -- -- motion picture production.
Still you know ages eight to early eighties can't come -- And you mentioned you have a couple of former students are on the cast of glee is is your.
Studio Katie studios it it's -- kind of like Cooley in real life.
Sometimes they're.
If you want if you want -- Holloway if you're you're gonna hear all kinds of things coming from the class things are getting your high season.
And hit or get higher and you're gonna hear acting and an outside the subject here you know whatever it is against the people of his break got in this -- -- -- -- and I think yeah.
Sometimes I -- -- -- not supposed to in the hallway but sometimes -- get so.
Again if if if someone is interest in finding out more about whether or not -- student their child has the ability to.
Possibility of being a star.
What's the first thing you tell.
I tell them to get until class get into an acting classic -- investigating college.
Don't go anywhere we can get training -- to find out if it along with African city that you have some skill and ability.
Do you think I have the potential to be some zone right -- then in late got a great life on the can you -- right now.
