And this is a Fox News alert we are learning new and disturbing details tonight about the security or lack of it.

At the US mission in Libya where the ambassador in three other Americans were killed on September 11.

And we also have a new explanation tonight about the conflicting accounts of just what started all of the trouble.

Chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge has been working on that good evening -- Well thank you -- a spokesman for the Director of National Intelligence issued a statement.

This seems to give -- to the administration while the same time acknowledging they've been Ghazi was terrorism by those affiliated with or sympathetic to al-Qaeda.

There was information that led honesty intelligence to me to assess that the attack began spontaneously following protests earlier that day.

At our embassy in Cairo we provided that initial assessment to executive branch officials.

As we learned more about the attack we revised our initial assessment to reflect new information indicating that it was a deliberate and organized terrorist attack.

But administration officials including ambassador Susan Rice seemed to go beyond that guidance stating that -- Ghazi was a demonstration prompted by the YouTube video.

The spun out of control Fox News was first to report that there was no ongoing demonstration when the attack unfolded.

Meantime a former regional security officer or -- so who worked for the State Department in the Middle East.

Tells fox that the US consulate had to be classified as a quote critical threat terrorism or civil unrest posting.

What follows from that classification are specific physical security standards laid out by the State Department.

Which include reinforced ballistic windows and doors grating like what you see here is only acceptable for the ambassador's residence and not the Chancery -- official business is done.

As for the perimeter security walls must be at least three meters in height and the buildings must be sent back at least 100 feet.

The enhanced security is designed to create our safety or golden hour when classified documents can be burned an emergency evacuation call then.

We have asked the State Department whether the -- -- the required security standards.
