And welcome to FOX News Sunday panel -- -- Bill Kristol as -- -- Laura Ingram and Juan Williams and -- wanna start with you.
Because you got -- high deduction when we sad.
Some of us that we think Romney needs to score a clear victory that it is just a watch that's not enough given the fact that.
If you believe the polls and least I do.
He's behind now so why isn't and I don't mean it -- to be a knock out I don't mean that that they have to carry Obama off the stage but but don't people have to perceived.
The dynamic of the racism and -- I'm not I'm not conceding that point I think you're right -- pistons score and then in the debate but I think for the last like two or three weeks has -- He's got to do this is going to do this I think.
Romney has to come across as -- credible leader.
And a troubled time and he has to make it clear that he cares about all people because his policies are gonna help everybody.
I'm wealth and a wealthy guy but guess -- under my policy is more of you were gonna have a chance of being wealthy tail and that's good for the country.
He can't look like he's trying to be as bill said -- money's not a minute I'm gonna try to connect with that female demographic or they -- this minority demographic.
What's very attractive to people is a mature response to crisis.
And I think over the last couple of weeks.
They have a stark reminder that this president is more comfortable.
And -- entertainment celebrity on the Leo any is hunkering down in the Oval Office and getting answers to really serious.
-- let me ask you an -- will go around.
You know that that the -- -- task of Obama against Romney is going to be writ large 47%.
It's going to be this guy.
Cares about rich people he's gonna cut taxes for rich people.
He doesn't he -- law -- tank top to -- as victim says people who you know don't take personal responsibility like.
-- -- -- I think if you're Mitt Romney say look.
President Obama on their lots of tapes of circulating about what you think and what you said and also you might policies actually are.
I I mean I -- buying into like a little every little snippet that's pulled from one of year old fund raisers -- speaking off the -- Or -- -- -- I think people should judge me on what was said in in May of this year I an artfully worded what I said.
And I actually would use those words again because what -- shown in my life is that right not only care about my fellow man.
But I care deeply about this country and this this kind of gotcha game.
Luckily look at your record is a four year record that apparently we don't wanna talk about as much as we want to talk about a 52 clips from -- I think you have to do I hope the Romney campaign -- -- I was pretty dried -- One was a pretty good.
-- -- I mean that it -- that skip it if it was just one statement and in our police that.
Is that look at how would you say that artfully.
Romney Tom tell me how you think.
Apple America is the B port and won't vote he went -- Why you're putting down America's seniors you bring that America's veterans that's.
I think he's opening of subtle like yeah I pay fanatical fighters is they keep your right hand up you know the other guys don't want to.
Believe that that Romney doesn't care about Veterans Stadium -- -- -- I -- care about the elderly don't they don't like he doesn't believe that -- -- -- -- the people who don't pay federal taxes are worthy of hit a below you think they're about 4% up for grabs in the selection 45% of undecideds usually yeah.
I don't know that they're about aspect of right that's basically what he's saying -- -- incentive -- are you saying look we're fighting for this slice them and it doesn't make sense lord because -- seniors tend to vote for Germany and seniors are the overwhelming group that doesn't pay federal taxes accident so that one statement and Hank.
-- and all well and and -- economy.
-- I was responding to your advice which Chris -- -- -- Mitt Romney I think Mitt Romney I'm with -- on this I think he has to be.
Human let people see that he really -- a human being -- -- an -- yeah.
Top of the yeah.
And I look at the big stakes in this thing because he's trailing and he's got -- reset the dynamic.
OK you know first of all I'm now beginning to think maybe Laura and -- -- -- today by any honest and open sometimes.
Well the people who don't want -- to win one to be human people who want probably -- -- what -- to be tough yeah so I think he should be tough.
I think that's a couple of things the first half hour of the debate is -- has talked with a couple who have studied this and and most of the decide it and people to -- Watch the last hour could ask confirming their impressions of the first couple rounds so pleased to come out knowing what he wants to say both about his own agenda and about what President Obama within this country of the next four years.
And I do think honestly should pretty much ignored -- and I would ignore the attacks on incidentally but you can't I mean I don't you can't ignore.
You coming up and this is -- this this is wounding Chris here on out.
Way to do it where you answer that question quickly and then move on and does something but if it looks.
Frankly if he looks like Sarah Palin wears -- well I'm you know I'm not -- answer your question I'm on the ballots.
No but the first the way the debates out of this -- -- fifteen minute segments were -- -- -- the question and I think he just says it's very good questions and thanks a lot of Adam thanks for your were moderate -- these debates over the years now look the problem President Obama is this your policies have failed.
And it's been that bad for your -- from your worst next four years and then going here's what my policy would be instead and make it a real discussion between the two of them go man to man.
Look at you can't win that discussion is not gonna presidency but I think he has a pretty good chance let me -- you know -- -- detention -- -- It was the one area where I'm not sure -- -- Paul Ryan did so well and I interview was when I so let's go through the map and and Obama's been hitting him on the specifics.
You got this tax reform plan and he got to cut all these tax rates and I'm sure Obama could say and that means that the average millionaire is gonna get tax cut out.
50000 -- 100000 dollars now explain to me.
How it's gonna because they gonna get a chance to talk to each other.
And so far at least the Romney campaign has not been willing to come up with a simple mathematical explanation of how you cut everybody's tax rates 20%.
Don't either one explode the deficit or end up raising taxes on the middle class does -- have to have an answer for that.
Yes he has to have -- -- answer to that I think he needs to say which is that I gathers their plan is that we'll cut tax -- 20% and reduced deductions.
Mostly on the wealthy enough to pay for -- 20% cut and there's no reason not to put a number on -- we pretty much you know what at 20% across the board cut in income tax rates would be we know what they can tax revenues to the federal government aren't you could argue static analysis dynamic analysis.
Yes I don't think they should be they got -- they talk about moving a little too.
You know risk averse and kind of if you put a number out there that everyone that is going to be -- all the ads I mean I grew -- got to be mature and sensible soon the American public is willing to.
Here are some hard truths.
And and and and explain his tax plan it's crazy for him to be losing -- tax debate to President Obama you Republicans -- -- the presidency if he can't -- attacks today.
No Liz you have been hammered by some people and his family members saying that -- -- -- -- -- I would not betting that he should be nice I was saying that he needs to be human and meal and that's actually very different he could do that in a moment of passion bordering on outrage about something -- Romney's biggest problem in this campaign is that he sounds like he's reciting talking points all the time and voters don't have a sense of what is moral compass is they don't have a sense of what he really cares about what but the real Romney isn't so I think if he could just find one.
One issue have a breakthrough moment where voters feel like he threw the talking points out the window and said.
This is what I really care about and this is what I really believe that would be huge for him that but it and I just have to -- sailors because it's so funny were all talking about Romney nobody has -- about -- -- -- What what about what about Obama so for Obama I think because there's a general cents consensus that he could play it safe in this debate and he would be -- he doesn't.
He doesn't have to go for the win.
You know the big danger if Obama is that.
You know incoming presidents sometimes have a tendency seem a little bit arrogant little bit.
I'm happy to be up there and I think that's what I what are what are you doing questioning me exactly just how I got hit by an anti haven't had to you know -- I have to go through this again -- -- You feel sorry can't give his fourteen point plan that goes on Friday and he can be a little professorial and his aides have been sort of preparing.
Trying to lower expectations in that way also but but I think Obama has a cushion -- that it you know as long as he doesn't have some where he blows hitters -- a flash of irritation or something like that.
He'll be okay Romney's the one who -- who doesn't need to change the dynamic of this race in some way with.
-- -- it went eleven point 7% real unemployment that Romney's -- -- -- to change the dynamic I think that speaks the bill's point.
And when I made since I don't know how long that they've run.
Not the best campaign.
And framing themselves they haven't done a great job that and that's why there isn't real opening for the last a friend Amezaga talk.
Really appreciate -- saying that because you know -- and I think -- -- well yeah I think you're favoring Obama can't that this was going.
That's the bumper sticker not the best campaign thank you panel please check in with us throughout the -- let us know what you think about what should happen what you expect to happen out the first -- -- For -- Monday edition of Wallace unplug it and find it right here at FOX News Sunday dot com.
