Because there was a break through a major one in the fight against breast cancer this week scientists found four major classes of the disease.

And they hope that will lead to more effective treatments doctor -- will start with you how promising is this.

This is really a breakthrough we're talking about the cancer genome atlas network which is just this.

Scifi as it sounds in the 21 century we're looking at cancer differently it's all about genetics now Jamie.

We're looking at DNA which is the programming that tell cells how to behave.

And scientists are now in a new study published in nature looking at what's going wrong with the DNA.

What's going wrong with the genetic programming and they discovered with breast cancer and tomorrow starts.

Tomorrow we we've prostate cancer awareness month and move on to Breast Cancer Awareness Month thank goodness -- of but we don't know I don't mean Elaine and I -- -- that we women and men should both be more aware we're gonna put -- would have put a spotlight on it.

And what this shows is that there's four different types of breast cancer.

Not what we already know one is estrogen receptor one is a hormone we -- you give it -- hormone blocker it gets better.

We've started on the way -- this but here's what's really new here they've discovered -- cancer isn't only about the -- -- it originates.

So it's not this one particular group here that's not like other breast cancers it operates more like ovarian cancer so you can develop treatments.

That look good genetics and say okay it's a breast cancer but cancer is a body problem it's a problem genetically it's a problem -- mutations.

Wear jeans go haywire.

What can we do to fix that -- we -- to change the proteins and specifically one group of breast cancer was found to operate like ovarian cancer it will get.

Different kinds of treatment.

And that was my question doctor somebody learning this how much does treatment have to change and patients who had treatment that was already in existence may.

They have to go back for new and different treatment.

Not necessarily but I think the gist of this whole study.

Is the fact that now we're going to look at cancer completely different over the last decade.

We sort of have been trying to diagnose it and we throw some sort of a chemotherapy or radiation added and that says.

But we don't really understand the cancer but now what we're trying to say we've said this before this program.

Is that this secret to all of this is in the -- -- a map.

And the roadmap if you can but whoever created this body.

Has putting all the secrets there we just have to find him.

So we're trying to see if there's -- overlap between long cancer for example or prostate cancer or breast cancers.

Do you all have some common grounds that some of the Jews so understanding different types know who should be treated and who should really not be treated.

Is really the future and knowing this.

Form one of the things you know about breast cancer for example.

The -- want America to these are the genes called tumor suppression -- What it means is that it's -- defense mechanism that the body has to protect us now what happens when there's a change.

Indies will form whatever it is maybe obesity causes it may be fatty food whatever that is.

Once -- picked -- protection away now you're going to get -- -- growth and breast cancer so by understanding this kind of map we're going to target.

Exactly what we need to do at a very specific that's personalized treatment -- you're gonna get as a new target therapy by the way -- you get less side effects.

What -- are needed therapy -- been around for a while my question for you can receive as we report these things -- are viewers get the benefit.

We try to help you learn the questions you need to ask your doctor tomorrow.

On any of these topics.

But will doctors be aware of this information so that they can look for these pro teams in the east -- Well this is in a very very well publicized journal nature doctors better be reading list of what we're doing is looking at DNA and genes with cancer in a much much more expensive way than ever before -- need to bring out your doctor really because like this is still.

It has a way to get to our clinical work and I think.

Mark's point is well taken because some of these very specific.

And this triple negative breast cancers.

That -- -- over and kisses we can use all those medications but talked through dark it's not ready for primetime yet.

But it's a great step for that we want to do -- -- house -- give folks the edge.
