Two US Border Patrol agents are shot in Arizona one of them was murdered.

But anyway our starting right now America's Newsroom I'm Martha -- and -- Bill Hemmer good morning this agent was killed another wounded near the town of -- just north of the border.

And while little else is known about the shooting we do know it unfolded near -- Border Patrol station that was just name.

For their fallen colleague agent Brian Terry -- much -- -- live in Los Angeles so what else do we know this morning William about the shooting.

-- Martha -- is a very small to quiet border town 80000 people mostly ranchers about a hundred miles southeast of Tucson.

But because of its proximity to major highways state route eighty in ninety which go -- worth.

And interstate ten which goes east and west it's a very active drug smuggling corridor.

Those basically moving drugs mostly cocaine and marijuana that increasingly methamphetamine and heroin.

And those trying to steal those struggles those are known as -- crews so the Border Patrol substation has increased from a hundred.

To 600.

Agents in just the last several years to combat this threat.

Early this morning to weigh -- Three agents were -- patrolling one was shot fatally another was airlifted to a nearby hospital would not threatening shots to his leg into his hip.

And a third was not hit.

Now there -- several types of agents in this area.

Number one you've got the guys -- controlling their suvs when they see -- were alerted to a group of illegals -- drug smugglers by sensors or cameras though get out and attempt to interdict Adam -- Then -- those vortex tactical units who -- -- are dropped in by helicopter.

An alien lay -- for several nights and then they try to basically interdict these the smuggling groups -- -- cruise.

And then finally you have those on horseback -- we're told that these agents were on horseback patrolling.

About again to lay down.

And that is when the activity really picks up the temperatures drop.

Basically between 85 and 55 degrees it's not as hot as it used to be.

And also it's night time and that's when this is most active.

Places like -- -- Douglas and on -- Dallas so these guys went horseback they're typically they have a side arm sales have a rifle.

We don't know any more details at this time -- -- it is a sad irony.

That these agents were based out of the state this station that you just showed us the other day in your report.

Had set up on a rip crew they announced their presents and were shot at the weapons found there of course belonged to the US run operation fast and furious.

They are sick to death and worried that once again that the weapons used to -- if found.

And the reason they believe that is -- areas controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel.

Agents have flooded the area trying to find these guys but this will be the third.
