Could be a make or break moment we'll see.

For the two men who want to be president of the United States and all we have to do -- kind of look back at history.

To -- land and how some of these debates really have changed the course.

Some of the elections joining me now does take a closer look at that's his presidential historian -- Greg and nick welcome good to have -- here today.

Good morning Martha you know what -- we're talking about the class -- which is of course the Nixon Kennedy debate.

And you know folks who watch on television.

Clearly thought that Jack Kennedy was the winner there but that wasn't necessarily -- response to people who didn't get to CN.

Yeah there was actually four debates of the first presidential debate serious.

People that listen to it on the radio which was the majority of Americans thought Nixon had won on substance people watched on TV thought that Kennedy did.

Of course Kennedy was.

Tanned and had -- on Nixon did not he was he came at a hospital few days earlier he was -- And it showed -- sweat a lot and have the impression people left was that he was shifting and insincere Kennedy was in command.

Daddy -- make -- apparently it was probably just the last time that -- -- made that mistake right true.

-- let's take a look at Carter Reagan which is a fascinating.

One to watch as well.

And we have a little does sound from -- wanna get your thoughts on that a split that.

Governor Reagan -- amount of -- began his political career campaigning around this nation.

Against Medicare when you go again.

When I opposed Medicare.

There was another piece of legislation.

Meeting the same problem before the congress.

I happened to favor the other piece of legislation and thought that it would be better.

For the senior citizens and provide better care than the one that was finally passed.

So that they go again and why didn't what was in that land -- a Suffolk cops.

It was an ad -- in in an instant it kind of disarmed his critics he did it with a cheery smile -- cardinal looked slightly -- which was his persona.

And it sort of confirmed that Reagan was a likable friendly approachable person and Carter was a bit too dour and serious for the times.

And there was other another great line he said are you better off today and went four years ago devastating impact.

Yeah day and that is a session memorable line -- and that -- of course let's take a look at bush gore.

I think everybody but to see this video which sent -- got to get a kick out of check it out.

That's what the question in this campaign is about is only what's your philosophy and what your position on issues.

But can -- get things done.

And I believe I can't.

Let's have a -- like.

What what are you -- right.

I you know it's what one of the best moments ever and -- it in an instant it confirm what people thought about bush which -- he he again he's likable he seems like them and and with gore which he seems slightly I'm comfortable in his own skin a little bit awkward.

There's just -- strange bizarre moment that it's the only thing people remember from those three debates again people think gore won on substance what that's what they remember this awkward invasion of his personals and if you split.

-- you know I wanted to look at that want to stick with his produces second.

-- -- wasn't thinking on that -- it was it was -- coached do you think to sort of you know don't be afraid to get up Bob you're seeing kind of get his things -- -- that.

Probably you know he was coach remember he was wearing earth -- he was trying to be different Al Gore.

He probably trying to be a little bit more alpha and dominate the stage a little bit of course in that very Al Gore way overdid it and it came off his awkward and it kind of scripted and it was just a bizarre little moment but.

That in a flash enough -- his problem was he wasn't really comfortable in his own skin.

So all right and and that that the sort happened at a glance is just so so George -- as everybody came to known in the years to -- Thank you very much neck -- -- the best moments -- and scripted ones as in as good chatting with my heart so we'll see what happens tonight thanks neck should be an interesting debate to -- -- -- we helps out.
